Genesis 12 — Novel English Bible

1 Now Yahawah () amar (spoke) to Abaram (Abram), “yalak (get) out of your aratz (Earth/land), and from your relatives, and from your ab (father) bayath (house), to the aratz (Earth/land) that I will show you.

2 I will ishah (make) of you a gadawal (very great/important/mighty) gaway (heathen / nation). I will barak (blessed) you and gadal (make) your sham (name) gadal (great). You will be a barakah (blessing).

3 I will barak (blessed) those who barak (blessed) you, and I will arar (curse) him who arar (curses) you. All of the mashapachath (families) of the adamah (earth) will be barak (blessed) in you.”

4 So Abaram (Abram) yalak (went), as Yahawah () had dabar (word / matter) to him. Lawat (Lot) yalak (went) with him. Abaram (Abram) was shabaiyam (seventy)- chamash (five) shanayam (years) ban (son) when he departed out of Charan (Haran).

5 Abaram (Abaram) laqach (take / seize) Sharay (Sarai) his ayashah (woman / wife), Lawat (Lot) his ach (brother/kinsman) ban (son), all their rakawash (wealth / property / goods / possessions) that they had rakash (gathered), and the napash (soul) whom they ishah (make) gotten in Charan (Haran), and they yatzaa (go out / come out) to yalak (go) into the aratz (Earth/land) of Kanain (Canaan). Into the aratz (Earth/land) of Kanain (Canaan) they bawaa (bring).

6 Abaram (Abaram) ibar (pass over/through) through the aratz (Earth/land) to the maqawam (place) of Shakam (Shechem), to the oak of Mawarah (Moreh). The Kanainay (Canaanite) was then in the aratz (Earth/land).

7 Yahawah () raah (see) to Abaram (Abram) and amar (spoke), “I will nathan (give) zaath (this) aratz (Earth/land) to your zarai (seed).” He banah (build) an mazabach (altar) there to Yahawah (), who raah (see) to him.

8 He ithaq (left) from there to the har (mountain) on the qadam (east) of Bayath-Al (Bethel), and natah (pitched) his ahal (tent), having Bayath-Al (Bethel) on the yam (sea/waters), and Iy (Ai) on the qadam (east). There he banah (build) an mazabach (altar) to Yahawah () and qaraa (called) on the sham (name) of Yahawah ().

9 Abaram (Abaram) traveled, halak (move) on still toward the nagab (south).

10 There was a raib (famine) in the aratz (Earth/land). Abaram (Abaram) yarad (went) down into Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt) to live as a foreigner there, for the raib (famine) was severe in the aratz (Earth/land).

11 It happened, when he had qarab (come close) near to bawaa (bring) Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt), that he amar (said) to Sharay (Sarai) his ayashah (woman / wife), “hanah (Behold) naa (now), I yadai (know) that you are a yapah (beautiful) ayashah (woman / wife) to maraah (look) at.

12 It will happen, when the Matzaray (Egyptians) will raah (see / saw) you, that they will amar (said), ‘This is his ayashah (woman / wife).’ They will harag (kill) me, but they will chayah (save) you alive.

13 Please amar (said) that you are my achawath (sister), that it may be yatab (well) with me for your sake, and that my napash (soul) may chayah (live) galal (because) of you.”

14 It happened that when Abaram (Abaram) bawaa (bring) come into Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt), the Matzaray (Egyptians) raah (see / saw) that the ayashah (woman / wife) was very yapah (beautiful).

15 The sharay (princes) of Paraih (Pharaoh) raah (see / saw) her, and halal (praise) her to Paraih (Pharaoh); and the ayashah (woman / wife) was laqach (take / seize) into Paraih (Pharaoh's) bayath (house).

16 He dealt yatab (well) with Abaram (Abaram) for her sake. He had tzaan (sheep), cattle, male donkeys, male ibadayam (servants), female shapachath (servants), female donkeys, and gamalayam (camels).

17 Yahawah () nagai (plagued) Paraih (Pharaoh) and his bayath (house) with gadawal (very great/important/mighty) nagaiyam (plagues) dabar (word / matter) of Sharay (Sarai), Abaram (Abram's) ayashah (woman / wife).

18 Paraih (Pharaoh) qaraa (called) Abaram (Abaram) and amar (said), “What is this that you ishah (make) done to me? Why didn't you nagad (tell) me that she was your ayashah (woman / wife)?

19 Why did you say, ‘She is my achawath (sister),’ so that I laqach (take / seize) her to be my ayashah (woman / wife)? Now therefore, see your ayashah (woman / wife), laqach (take / seize) her, and go your yalak (way).”

20 Paraih (Pharaoh) tzawah (commanded) anashayam (men) concerning him, and they shalach (send) him on the way with his ayashah (woman / wife) and all that he had.
