Genesis 19 — Novel English Bible

The shanayam (two) malaakayam (angels) bawaa (bring) to Sadam (Sodom) at irab (evening). Lawat (Lot) yashab (inhabit/dwell) in the shair (gate) of Sadam (Sodom). Lawat (Lot) raah (see / saw) them, and qawam (rise up) up to qaraah (meet) them. He shachah (bowed) himself with his ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) to the aratz (Earth/land),

And he amar (said), “See now, my adawan (master / lord), please sawar (turn) aside into your ibad (servant) bayath (house), stay all lawan (night), rachatz (wash) your ragal (feet / foot), and you can shakam (rise) up early, and halak (move) on your darak (way).” They amar (said), “No, but we will stay in the rachab (street) all lawan (night).”

He patzar (urged) them maad (greatly), and they came in with him, and bawaa (bring) into his bayath (house). He ishah (make) them a mashathah (feast), and apah (baked) unleavened matzah (bread), and they akal (eat).

But before they shakab (lay) down, the anashay (men) of the iyar (city), the anashay (men) of Sadam (Sodom), surrounded the bayath (house), both nair (young) and zaqan (old), all the im (nation / people) from every qatzah (end / extremity / border).

They qaraa (called) to Lawat (Lot), and amar (said) to him, “Where are the anashayam (men) who bawaa (bring) in to you this layal (night)? Yatzaa (go out / come out) them out to us, that we may yadai (have) sex with them.”

Lawat (Lot) yatzaa (go out / come out) out to them to the dalath (door), and sagar (shut) the dalath (door) achar (other) him.

He amar (said), “Please, my ach (brother/kinsman), don't act so wickedly.

See now, I yadai (have) shanayam (two) virgin banawath (daughters). Please yatzaa (go out / come out) me bring them out to you, and you may ishah (make) to them what seems tawab (good / proper function) to you. Only don't ishah (make) anything to these yadaiw (men), because they bawaa (bring) come under the tzal (shadow) of my qawarah (roof).”

They amar (said), “nagash (stand) halaah (back)!” Then they amar (said), “This achad (one) fellow bawaa (bring) in to live as a foreigner, and he appoints himself a shapat (judge / judgement). Now will we raii (wicked / dysfunctional / evil) worse with you, than with them!” They patzar (pressed) hard on the ayash (man / husband) Lawat (Lot), and nagash (drew) near to shabar (break) the dalath (door).

But the anashayam (men) shalach (send) out their yad (hand), and bawaa (bring) Lawat (Lot) into the bayath (house) to them, and sagar (shut) the dalath (door).

They nakah (struck) the anashayam (men) who were at the pathach (door) of the bayath (house) with sanawar (blindness), both qatan (small / young / least) and gadawal (very great/important/mighty), so that they laah (wearied) themselves to matzaa (find) the pathach (door).

The anashayam (men) amar (said) to Lawat (Lot), “Do you have anybody else here? Sons-in-law, your ban (son), your banath (daughter), and whoever you have in the iyar (city), yatzaa (go out / come out) them out of the maqawam (place):

For we will shachath (destroy) this maqawam (place), because the outcry against them has gadal (grown) great panayam (face) Yahawah () that Yahawah () has shalach (send) us to shachath (destroy) it.”

Lawat (Lot) yatzaa (go out / come out) out, and dabar (word / matter) to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry his banath (daughter), and amar (spoke), “qawam (rise up) up! Yatzaa (go out / come out) out of this maqawam (place), for Yahawah () will shachath (destroy) the iyar (city).” But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be joking.

When the shachar (morning) ilah (go up / offer), then the malaakayam (angels) hurried Lawat (Lot), amar (said), “qawam (rise up) up! Laqach (take / seize) your ayashah (woman / wife), and your shanayam (two) banath (daughter) who are here, lest you be sapah (consumed) in the iwan (guilt/iniquity) of the iyar (city).”

But he mahah (lingered); and the yachazaqaw (men) grabbed his yad (hand), his ayashah (woman / wife) yad (hand), and his shanayam (two) banath (daughter)’ yad (hand), Yahawah () being chamalah (merciful) to him; and they yatzaa (go out / come out) him out, and yanach (set) him outside of the iyar (city).

It yatzaa (go out / come out) to pass, when they had taken them out, that he amar (said), “malat (escape) for your napash (soul)! Don't nabat (look) achar (other) you, and don't imad (stay) anywhere in the kakar (plain). Malat (escape) to the har (mountain), lest you be sapah (consumed)!”

Lawat (Lot) amar (spoke) to them, “Oh, not so, my Adawan ().

See now, your ibad (servant) matzaa (has) found favor in your iyan (eye), and you have gadal (magnified) your loving chasad (grace), which you have shown to me in chayah (saving) my napash (soul). I can't malat (escape) to the har (mountain), lest rai (evil) dabaq (overtake) me, and I mawath (death).

See now, this iyar (city) is qarawab (near) to nawas (flee) to, and it is a matzair (little) one. Oh malat (let) me escape there (isn't it a matzair (little) one?), and my napash (soul) will chayah (live).”

He amar (said) to him, “hanah (Behold), I have granted your dabar (word / matter) concerning this thing also, that I will not hapak (overthrow) the iyar (city) of which you have dabar (word / matter).

Hurry, malat (escape) there, for I can't ishah (make) anything until you bawaa (bring) there.” Therefore the sham (name) of the iyar (city) was qaraa (called) Tzair (Zoar).

The shamash (sun) yatzaa (go out / come out) risen on the aratz (Earth/land) when Lawat (Lot) bawaa (bring) to Tzair (Zoar).

Then Yahawah () matar (rained) on Sadam (Sodom) and on Imarah (Gomorrah) sulfur and ash (fire) from Yahawah () out of the sky.

He overthrew al (toward) irayam (cities), all the kakar (plain), all the yashabay (inhabitants) of the irayam (cities), and that which tzamach (grew) on the adamah (ground).

But his ayashah (woman / wife) nabat (looked) back from achar (other) him, and she became a natzayab (pillar) of malach (salt).

Abaraham (Abraham) shakam (got) up early in the baqar (morning) to the maqawam (place) where he had imad (stood) panayam (face) Yahawah ().

He shaqap (looked) panayam (face) Sadam (Sodom) and Imarah (Gomorrah), and panayam (face) all the aratz (Earth/land) of the kakar (plain), and raah (see / saw), and saw that the qayatawar (smoke) of the aratz (Earth/land) ilah (go up / offer) up as the qayatawar (smoke) of a kabashan (furnace).

It happened, when Alahayam () shachath (destroyed) the iray (cities) of the kakar (plain), that Alahayam () zakar (remember) Abaraham (Abraham), and shalach (send) Lawat (Lot) out of the thawak (midst) of the hapakah (overthrow), when he overthrew the iray (cities) in which Lawat (Lot) lived.

Lawat (Lot) ilah (go up / offer) up out of Tzair (Zoar), and lived in the har (mountain), and his shanayam (two) banath (daughter) with him; for he was yaraa (fear / be afraid) to live in Tzair (Zoar). He lived in a mairah (cave) with his shanayam (two) banath (daughter).

The bakayarah (firstborn) amar (said) to the younger, “Our ab (father) is zaqan (old), and there is not a ayash (man / husband) in the aratz (Earth/land) to bawaa (bring) in to us in the darak (way) of all the aratz (Earth/land).

Yalak (come), nashaqah (lets) make our ab (father) shaqah (drink) yayan (wine), and we will shakab (lie) with him, that we may chayah (preserve) our ab (father) zarai (seed).”

They shaqah (made) their ab (father) shaqah (drink) yayan (wine) that layal (night): and the bakayarah (firstborn) bawaa (bring) in, and shakab (lay) with her ab (father). He didn't yadai (know) when she shakab (lay) down, nor when she qawam (rise up).

It came to pass on the next macharath (day), that the bakayarah (firstborn) amar (said) to the younger, “Behold, I shakab (lay) last amash (night) with my ab (father). Shaqah (let) us make him drink yayan (wine) again, tonight. You bawaa (bring) in, and shakab (lie) with him, that we may chayah (preserve) our ab (father) zarai (seed).”

They shaqah (made) their ab (father) shaqah (drink) yayan (wine) that layal (night) also. The younger went and shakab (lay) with him. He didn't yadai (know) when she shakab (lay) down, nor when she qawam (rise up) up.

Thus shanayam (two) of Lawat (Lot's) banawath (daughters) were with harah (child) by their ab (father).

The bakayarah (firstborn) yalad (birth / begot) a ban (son), and sham (name) him Mawaab (Moab). He is the ab (father) of the Mawaab (Moabites) to this yawam (day).

The younger also yalad (birth / begot) a ban (son), and qaraa (called) his sham (name) Banaimay (Ben Ammi). He is the ab (father) of the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon) to this yawam (day).
