Genesis 31 — Novel English Bible

He shamai (hearken / hear) the dabaray (words) of Laban (Laban's) banay (my son)’, amar (said), “Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) has laqach (take / seize) away all that was our ab (father). From that which was our ab (father), ishah (make) he gotten all this wealth.”

Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) raah (see / saw) the expression on Laban (Laban's) thamawal (face), and, behold, it was not toward him as shalashawam (before).

Yahawah () amar (spoke) to Yaiqab (Jacob), “shawab (turn back / repent) to the aratz (Earth/land) of your ab (father), and to your relatives, and I will be with you.”

Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) shalach (send) and qaraa (called) Rachal (Rachel) and Laah (Leah) to the shadah (field) to his tzaan (flock),

And amar (spoke) to them, “I raah (see) the expression on your ab (father) panayam (face), that it is not toward me as shalashawam (before); but the Alahayam () of my ab (father) hayah (came to pass) been with me.

You yadai (know) that I have ibad (servant) your ab (father) with all of my strength.

Your ab (father) has hathal (deceived) me, and chalap (changed) my mashakarath (wages) ishar (ten) manayam (times), but Alahayam () didn't allow him to raii (wicked / dysfunctional / evil) me.

If he amar (said) this, ‘The naqad (speckled) will be your shakar (wages),’ then all the tzaan (flock) yalad (birth / begot) naqad (speckled). If he amar (said) this, ‘The streaked will be your shakar (wages),’ then all the tzaan (flock) yalad (birth / begot) streaked.

Thus Alahayam () has natzal (taken) away your ab (father) livestock, and nathan (give) them to me.

It happened during mating ith (season) that I nashaa (lift) up my iyan (eye), and raah (see / saw) in a chalawam (dream), and behold, the male ithadayam (goats) which ilah (go up / offer) on the tzaan (flock) were streaked, naqad (speckled), and grizzled.

The malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) of Alahayam () amar (spoke) to me in the chalawam (dream), ‘Yaiqab (Jacob),’ and I amar (spoke), ‘Here I am.’

He amar (said), ‘Now nashaa (lift) up your iyan (eye), and raah (see / saw), all the male ithadayam (goats) which ilah (go up / offer) on the tzaan (flock) are streaked, naqad (speckled), and grizzled, for I raah (see / saw) seen all that Laban (Laban) ishah (make) to you.

I am the Al of Bayath-Al (Bethel), where you mashach (anointed) a matzabah (pillar), where you nadar (vow) a nadar (vow) to me. Now qawam (rise up), yatzaa (go out / come out) out from this aratz (Earth/land), and shawab (turn) to the aratz (Earth/land) of your birth.’”

Rachal (Rachel) and Laah (Leah) inah (answer / respond) him, “Is there yet any chalaq (portion) or nachalah (inheritance) for us in our ab (father) bayath (house)?

Aren't we chashab (accounted) by him as nakarayawath (foreigners)? For he has makar (sold) us, and has also akal (eat) akal (eat) our kasap (money).

For all the riches which Alahayam () has natzal (taken) away from our ab (father), that is ours and our ban (son). Now then, whatever Alahayam () has amar (spoke) to you, ishah (make).”

Then Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) qawam (rise up) up, and nashaa (lift) his ban (son) and his wives on the gamalayam (camels),

And he took nahag (away) all his livestock, and all his rakawash (wealth / property / goods / possessions) which he had rakash (gathered), including the livestock which he had gained in Padan (Paddan) Aram (), to bawaa (come) to Yatzachaq (Isaac) his ab (father), to the aratz (Earth/land) of Kanain (Canaan).

Now Laban (Laban) had halak (move) to gazaz (shear) his tzaan (sheep): and Rachal (Rachel) ganab (stole) the tharapayam (teraphim) that were her ab (father).

Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) deceived Laban (Laban) the Aramay (Syrian), in that he didn't tell him that he was running barach (away).

So he barach (fled) with all that he had. He qawam (rise up) up, ibar (pass over/through) over the nahar (river), and shawam (place / establish / appoint) his panayam (face) toward the har (mountain) of Galaid (Gilead).

Laban (Laban) was nagad (told) on the shalayashay (third) yawam (day) that Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) had barach (fled).

He laqach (take / seize) his relatives with him, and radap (pursued) achar (other) him shabai (seven) yamayam (days)’ darak (journey). He overtook him in the har (mountain) of Galaid (Gilead).

Alahayam () bawaa (come) to Laban (Laban), the Aramay (Syrian), in a chalawam (dream) of the layal (night), and amar (spoke) to him, “shamar (keep/guard) heed to yourself that you don't dabar (word / matter) to Yaiqab (Jacob) either tawab (good / proper function) or rai (bad).”

Laban (Laban) caught up with Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch). Now Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) had thaqai (blow / sound alarm) his ahal (tent) in the har (mountain), and Laban (Laban) with his relatives encamped in the har (mountain) of Galaid (Gilead).

Laban (Laban) amar (said) to Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch), “What ishah (make) you done, that you have deceived me, and nahag (carried) away my banath (daughter) like shabayawath (captives) of the charab (sword)?

Why did you flee chabaa (secretly), and deceive me, and didn't nagad (tell) me, that I might have shalach (send) you away with shamachah (mirth) and with sharayam (songs), with tambourine and with kanawar (harp);

And didn't allow me to nashaq (kiss) my ban (son) and my banath (daughter)? Now ishah (make) you done foolishly.

It is in the al (Alahayam) of my yad (hand) to rai (hurt) you, but the Alahayam () of your ab (father) amar (spoke) to me last amash (night), amar (spoke), ‘shamar (keep/guard) heed to yourself that you don't speak to Yaiqab (Jacob) either tawab (good / proper function) or rai (bad).’

Now, you want to be halak (move), because you greatly kasap (longed) for your ab (father) bayath (house), but why have you ganab (stolen) my Alahayam ()?”

Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) inah (answer / respond) Laban (Laban), “Because I was yaraa (fear / be afraid), for I amar (said), ‘Lest you should take your banath (daughter) from me by gazal (force).’

Anyone you matzaa (find) your Alahayam () with shall not chayah (live). Before our relatives, nakar (discern) what is yours with me, and laqach (take / seize) it.” For Yaiqab (Jacob) didn't yadai (know) that Rachal (Rachel) had ganab (stolen) them.

Laban (Laban) bawaa (bring) into Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) ahal (tent), into Laah (Leah's) ahal (tent), and into the ahal (tent) of the shanayam (two) female amahath (servants); but he didn't matzaa (find) them. He yatzaa (go out / come out) out of Laah (Leah's) ahal (tent), and bawaa (bring) into Rachal (Rachel's) ahal (tent).

Now Rachal (Rachel) had laqach (take / seize) the tharapayam (teraphim), shawam (place / establish / appoint) them in the gamal (camel's) saddle, and yashab (inhabit/dwell) on them. Laban (Laban) mashash (felt) about all the ahal (tent), but didn't matzaa (find) them.

She amar (spoke) to her ab (father), “Don't let my Adawan () be charah (hot with anger) that I can't qawam (rise up) up panayam (face) you; for I'm having my period.” He chapash (searched), but didn't matzaa (find) the tharapayam (teraphim).

Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) was charah (hot with anger), and argued with Laban (Laban). Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) inah (answer / respond) Laban (Laban), “What is my pashai (trespass)? What is my chataah (sin), that you have dalaq (hotly) pursued achar (other) me?

Now that you have felt around in all my Kalay (stuff), what have you found of all your household stuff? Set it here before my relatives and your relatives, that they may judge between us two.

“These isharayam (twenty) shanah (years) I have been with you. Your rachal (ewes) and your female iz (goats) have not shakal (cast) their young, and I haven't akal (eat) the ayalay (rams) of your tzaan (flocks).

That which was tarapah (torn) of animals, I didn't bawaa (bring) to you. I chataa (bore) its loss. Of my yad (hand) you baqash (required) it, whether ganab (stolen) by yawam (day) or ganab (stolen) by layal (night).

This was my situation: in the yawam (day) the charab (drought) akal (eat) me, and the qarach (frost) by layal (night); and my shanah (sleep) nadad (fled) from my iyan (eye).

These isharayam (twenty) shanayam (two) I have been in your bayath (house). I ibad (servant) you fourteen shanayam (two) for your shanayam (two) banath (daughter), and shash (six) shanayam (two) for your tzaan (flock), and you have chalap (changed) my mashakarath (wages) ishar (ten) manayam (times).

Lawalaa (unless) the Alahayam () of my ab (father), the Alahayam () of Abaraham (Abraham), and the pachad (fear / dread) of Yatzachaq (Isaac), had been with me, surely now you would have shalach (send) me away rayaqam (empty). Alahayam () raah (see) seen my inay (affliction) and the yagayai (labor) of my kap (hands), and yakach (rebuked) you last amash (night).”

Laban (Laban) inah (answer / respond) Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch), “The banawath (daughters) are my banawath (daughters), the banayam (children) are my banayam (children), the tzaan (flocks) are my tzaan (flocks), and all that you raah (see / saw) is mine: and what can I ishah (make) this yawam (day) to these my banawath (daughters), or to their banayam (children) whom they have yalad (birth / begot)?

Now come, let us karath (cut) a barayath (covenant), you and I; and let it be for a id (until / as far as) between me and you.”

Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) laqach (take / seize) a aban (stone), and rawam (will lift up) it up for a matzabah (pillar).

Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) amar (said) to his relatives, “laqat (gather) abanayam (stones).” They laqach (take / seize) abanayam (stones), and ishah (make) a gal (heap). They akal (eat) there by the gal (heap).

Laban (Laban) qaraa (called) it Yagarashahadawathaa (Jegar Sahadutha), but Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) qaraa (called) it Galaid (Galeed).

Laban (Laban) amar (said), “This gal (heap) is id (until / as far as) between me and you this.” yawam (day). Therefore it was sham (name) Galaid (Galeed)

And Matzapah (Mizpah), for he amar (spoke), “Yahawah () tzapah (watchman / keep watch) between me and you, when we are sathar (absent) ayash (man / husband) from rai (neigbor/another person).

If you inah (oppress / afflict) my banath (daughter), or if you laqach (take / seize) wives il (over) my banath (daughter), no ayash (man / husband) is with us; raah (see), Alahayam () is id (until / as far as) between me and you.”

Laban (Laban) amar (said) to Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch), “See this gal (heap), and see the matzabah (pillar), which I have set between me and you.

May this gal (heap) be a idah (witness), and the matzabah (pillar) be a idah (witness), that I will not ibar (pass over/through) over this gal (heap) to you, and that you will not ibar (pass over/through) over this gal (heap) and this matzabah (pillar) to me, for rai (harm).

The Alahayam () of Abaraham (Abraham), and the Alahayam () of Nachawar (Nahor), the Alahayam () of their ab (father), shapat (judge / judgement) between us.” Then Yaiqab (Jacob) shabai (swear / take oath) by the pachad (fear / dread) of his ab (father), Yatzachaq (Isaac).

Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) zabach (offered) a zabach (sacrifice) in the har (mountain), and qaraa (called) his relatives to akal (eat) lacham (bread). They akal (eat) lacham (bread), and stayed all lawan (night) in the har (mountain).

Yaiqab (Jacob) yalak (went) on his yalak (way), and the angels of Alahayam () ban (son) him.
