2 Samuel 14 — Novel English Bible

1 Now Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) the ban (son) of Tzarawayah (Zeruiah) yadai (perceived) that the malak (king) lab (heart) was toward Abayashalawam (Absalom).

2 Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) shalach (send) to Thaqawai (Tekoa), and laqach (take / seize) there a chakam (wise) ayashah (woman / wife), and amar (said) to her, “Please act like a mourner, and labash (put) on abal (mourning) bagad (clothing), please, and don't sawak (anoint) yourself with shaman (oil), but be as a ayashah (woman / wife) who has abal (mourned) a rab (long) yawam (day) for the mawath (death).

3 Bawaa (bring) in to the malak (king), and dabar (word / matter) like this to him.” So Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) shawam (place / establish / appoint) the dabarayam (words) in her pah (mouth).

4 When the ayashah (woman / wife) of Thaqawai (Tekoa) amar (spoke) to the malak (king), she napal (fall / be cast down) on her ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) to the aratz (Earth/land), showed respect, and amar (spoke), “yashai (salvation), O malak (king)!”

5 The malak (king) amar (said) to her, “What ails you?” She amar (said), “Truly I am a alamanah (widow), and my ayash (man / husband) is mawath (death).

6 Your handmaid had shanayam (two) banayam (sons), and they shanayam (two) fought together in the shadah (field), and there was no one to natzal (part) them, but the achad (one) nakah (struck) the other, and nakah (killed) him.

7 Behold, the whole mashapachah (tribe / clan / family) has qawam (rise up) against your handmaid, and they amar (said), ‘nathan (give) him who nakah (struck) his ach (brother/kinsman), that we may mawath (death) him for the napash (soul) of his ach (brother/kinsman) whom he harag (kill), and so shamad (destroy) the heir also.’ Thus they would kabah (quench) my gachal (coal) which is shawam (place / establish / appoint), and would shawam (place / establish / appoint) to my ayash (man / husband) neither sham (name) nor shaarayath (remainder) on the surface of the adamah (earth).”

8 The malak (king) amar (said) to the ayashah (woman / wife), “yalak (go) to your bayath (house), and I will give a tzawah (command) concerning you.”

9 The ayashah (woman / wife) of Thaqawai (Tekoa) amar (spoke) to the malak (king), “My Adawan (), O malak (king), the iwan (guilt/iniquity) be on me, and on my ab (father) bayath (house); and the malak (king) and his kasaa (throne) be naqay (guiltless).”

10 The malak (king) amar (said), “Whoever amar (said) anything to you, bawaa (bring) him to me, and he shall not nagai (touch) you any more.”

11 Then she amar (spoke), “Please let the malak (king) zakar (remember) Yahawah () your Alahayam (), that the gaal (avenger) of dam (blood) shachath (destroy) not any more, lest they shamad (destroy) my ban (son).” He amar (spoke), “As Yahawah () chay (life), not one shairah (hair) of your ban (son) shall napal (fall / be cast down) to the aratz (Earth/land).”

12 Then the ayashah (woman / wife) amar (spoke), “Please let your handmaid dabar (word / matter) a dabar (word / matter) to my Adawan () the malak (king).” He amar (spoke), “dabar (word / matter) on.”

13 The ayashah (woman / wife) amar (spoke), “Why then have you chashab (devised) such a thing against the im (nation / people) of Alahayam ()? For in dabar (word / matter) this dabar (word / matter) the malak (king) is as one who is asham (guilty), in that the malak (king) shawab (turn back / repent) not bring home again his nadach (banished) one.

14 For we mawath (death) mawath (death), and are as mayam (Waters) spilled on the aratz (Earth/land), which can't be asap (gathered) up again; neither does Alahayam () nashaa (lift) away napash (soul), but chashab (devises) machashabawath (means), that he who is nadach (banished) not be an nadach (outcast) from him.

15 Now therefore seeing that I bawaa (come) come to dabar (word / matter) this dabar (word / matter) to my Adawan () the malak (king), it is because the im (nation / people) have made me yaraa (fear / be afraid): and your handmaid amar (spoke), ‘I will now dabar (word / matter) to the malak (king); it may be that the malak (king) will ishah (make) the dabar (word / matter) of his amah (servant).’

16 For the malak (king) will shamai (hearken / hear), to natzal (deliver) his amah (servant) out of the kap (hand) of the ayash (man / husband) who would shamad (destroy) me and my ban (son) yachad (together) out of the nachalah (inheritance) of Alahayam ().

17 Then your handmaid amar (spoke), ‘Please let the dabar (word / matter) of my Adawan () the malak (king) bring manawachah (rest); for as an malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) of Alahayam (), so is my Adawan () the malak (king) to shamai (hearken / hear) tawab (good / proper function) and rai (bad). May Yahawah (), your Alahayam (), be with you.’”

18 Then the malak (king) inah (answer / respond) the ayashah (woman / wife), “Please don't kachad (hide) anything from me that I shaal (ask) you.” The ayashah (woman / wife) amar (spoke), “Let my Adawan () the malak (king) now dabar (word / matter).”

19 The malak (king) amar (spoke), “Is the yad (hand) of Yawaab (Joab) with you in all this?” The ayashah (woman / wife) inah (answer / respond), “As your napash (soul) chay (life), my Adawan () the malak (king), no napash (soul) ash (fire) turn to the right yaman (hand) or to the shamaal (left) from anything that my Adawan () the malak (king) has dabar (word / matter); for your ibad (servant) Yawaab (Joab), he urged me, and he shawam (place / establish / appoint) all these dabarayam (words) in the pah (mouth) of your handmaid;

20 To sabab (change) the panayam (face) of the dabar (word / matter) has your ibad (servant) Yawaab (Joab) ishah (make) this thing. My Adawan () is chakam (wise), according to the chakamah (wisdom) of an malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) of Alahayam (), to yadai (know) all things that are in the aratz (Earth/land).”

21 The malak (king) amar (said) to Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab), “Behold now, I ishah (make) done this thing. Yalak (go) therefore, shawab (turn) the nair (young) man Abayashalawam (Absalom) shawab (turn).”

22 Yawaab (Joab) napal (fall / be cast down) to the aratz (Earth/land) on his panayam (face), showed respect, and barak (blessed) the malak (king). Yawaab (Joab) amar (spoke), “Today your ibad (servant) yadai (knows) that I matzaa (have) found favor in your iyan (eye), my Adawan (), malak (king), in that the malak (king) ishah (make) performed the dabar (word / matter) of his ibad (servant).”

23 So Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) qawam (rise up) and yalak (went) to Gashawar (Geshur), and bawaa (bring) Abayashalawam (Absalom) to Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem).

24 The malak (king) amar (said), “Let him sabab (return) to his own bayath (house), but raah (see / saw) him not see my panayam (face).” So Abayashalawam (Absalom) sabab (returned) to his own bayath (house), and didn't raah (see / saw) the malak (king) panayam (face).

25 Now in all Yashar-Al (Israel) there was ayash (man / husband) to be so much halal (praise) as Abayashalawam (Absalom) for his yapah (beauty): from the kap (sole) of his ragal (feet / foot) even to the qadaqad (crown) of his head there was no maawam (blemish) in him.

26 When he cut the hair of his raash (head) (yawam (day) it was at every year's qatz (end) that he cut it; because it was kabad (heavy) on him, therefore he cut it); he shaqal (weighed) the shair (hair) of his raash (head) at two maah (hundred) shaqalayam (shekels), after the malak (king) aban (stone).

27 To Abayashalawam (Absalom) there were yalad (birth / begot) shalawash (three) banayam (sons), and achad (one) banath (daughter), whose sham (name) was Thamar (Tamar): she was a ayashah (woman / wife) of a yapah (beautiful) maraah (face).

28 Abayashalawam (Absalom) lived yawam (day) full shanathayam (years) in Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem); and he didn't raah (see / saw) the malak (king) panayam (face).

29 Then Abayashalawam (Absalom) shalach (send) for Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab), to shalach (send) him to the malak (king); but he would not bawaa (bring) to him: and he shalach (send) again a shanay (second) time, but he would not bawaa (bring).

30 Therefore he amar (said) to his ibaday (servant of), “raah (see / saw), Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) chalaqah (field) is al (toward) yad (hand), and he has shairah (barley) there. Yalak (go) and yatzath (set) it on ash (fire).” Abayashalawam (Absalom's) ibaday (servant of) yatzath (set) the chalaqah (field) on ash (fire).

31 Then Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) qawam (rise up), and bawaa (bring) to Abayashalawam (Absalom) to his bayath (house), and amar (said) to him, “Why have your ibad (servant) yatzath (set) my chalaqah (field) on ash (fire)?”

32 Abayashalawam (Absalom) amar (said) Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab), “Behold, I shalach (send) to you, amar (said), ‘bawaa (bring) here, that I may shalach (send) you to the malak (king), to amar (said), “Why bawaa (bring) I come from Gashawar (Geshur)? It would be tawab (good / proper function) for me to be there still. Now therefore raah (see / saw) me see the malak (king) panayam (face); and if there is iwan (guilt/iniquity) in me, let him mawath (death) me.”’”

33 So Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) bawaa (bring) to the malak (king), and nagad (told) him; and when he had qaraa (called) for Abayashalawam (Absalom), he bawaa (bring) to the malak (king), and shachah (bowed) himself on his ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) to the aratz (Earth/land) panayam (face) the malak (king): and the malak (king) nashaq (kissed) Abayashalawam (Absalom).
