2 Samuel 5 — Novel English Bible

1 Then bawaa (bring) all the shabatay (tribes) of Yashar-Al (Israel) to Dawad (David) to Chabarawan (Hebron), and amar (said), amar (said), “Behold, we are your itzam (bone) and your bashar (flesh).

2 In athamawal (times) past, when Shaawal (Saul) was malak (king) over us, it was you who yatzaa (go out / come out) out and bawaa (come) in Yashar-Al (Israel). Yahawah () amar (spoke) to you, ‘You shall be raih (shepherd) of my im (nation / people) Yashar-Al (Israel), and you shall be nagayad (prince) over Yashar-Al (Israel).’”

3 So all the zaqanay (elders) of Yashar-Al (Israel) bawaa (come) to the malak (king) to Chabarawan (Hebron); and malak (king) Dawad (David) karath (cut) a barayath (covenant) with them in Chabarawan (Hebron) panayam (face) Yahawah (); and they mashach (anointed) Dawad (David) malak (king) over Yashar-Al (Israel).

4 Dawad (David) was shalawashayam (thirty) shanah (years) ban (son) when he began to malak (king), and he malak (king) arabaiyam (forty) shanah (years).

5 In Chabarawan (Hebron) he malak (king) over Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) shabai (seven) shanayam (two) and shash (six) chadashayam (months); and in Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem) he malak (king) thirty-three shanayam (two) over all Yashar-Al (Israel) and Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah).

6 The malak (king) and his ayash (man / husband) yalak (went) to Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem) against the Yabawasay (Jebusites), the yashab (inhabit/dwell) of the aratz (Earth/land), who amar (said) to Dawad (David), amar (said), “Unless you sawar (take) away the iwar (blind) and the pasach (lame), you shall not bawaa (bring) in here;” amar (said), “Dawad (David) can't bawaa (bring) in here.”

7 Nevertheless Dawad (David) lakad (took) the stronghold of Tzayawan (Zion); the same is the iyar (city) of Dawad (David).

8 Dawad (David) amar (said) on that yawam (day), “Whoever nakah (strikes) the Yabawasay (Jebusites), let him nagai (get) up to the watercourse, and strike the pasach (lame) and the iwar (blind), who are shanaa (hate) by Dawad (David's) napash (soul).” Therefore they amar (said), “The iwar (blind) and the pasach (lame) can't bawaa (bring) into the bayath (house).”

9 Dawad (David) lived in the stronghold, and qaraa (called) it the iyar (city) of Dawad (David). Dawad (David) banah (build) around from Malawaa (Millo) and inward.

10 Dawad (David) yalak (grew) greater and halak (move); for Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of tzabaawath (armies), was with him.

11 Chayaram (Hiram) malak (king) of Tzar (Tyre) shalach (send) malaakayam (messengers) to Dawad (David), and araz (cedar) itzay (trees), and charashay (carpenters), and qayar (masons); and they banah (build) Dawad (David) a bayath (house).

12 Dawad (David) yadai (perceived) that Yahawah () had kawan (established) him malak (king) over Yashar-Al (Israel), and that he had nashaa (lift) his mamalakah (kingdom) for his im (nation / people) Yashar-Al (Israel's) sake.

13 Dawad (David) laqach (take / seize) him more palagashayam (concubines) and wives out of Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem), achar (other) he bawaa (bring) come from Chabarawan (Hebron); and there were yet banayam (sons) and banawath (daughters) yalad (birth / begot) to Dawad (David).

14 These are the shamawath (names) of those who were yalawad (born) to him in Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem): Shamawai (Shammua), and Shawabab (Shobab), and Nathan (give), and Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch),

15 And Yabachar (Ibhar), and Alayashawai (Elishua), and Napag (Nepheg), and Yapayai (Japhia),

16 And Alayashamai (Elishama), and Alayadai (Eliada), and Alayapalat (Eliphelet).

17 When the Palashathay (Philistines) shamai (hearken / hear) that they had mashach (anointed) Dawad (David) malak (king) over Yashar-Al (Israel), all the Palashathay (Philistines) ilah (go up / offer) up to baqash (seek) Dawad (David); and Dawad (David) shamai (hearken / hear) of it, and yarad (went) down to the stronghold.

18 Now the Palashathay (Philistines) bawaa (bring) come and natash (spread) themselves in the imaq (valley) of Rapaa (Rephaim).

19 Dawad (David) inquired of Yahawah (), amar (spoke), “Shall I ilah (go up / offer) up against the Palashathay (Philistines)? Will you nathan (give) them into my yad (hand)?” Yahawah () amar (spoke) to Dawad (David), “ilah (go up / offer) up; for I will certainly nathan (give) the Palashathay (Philistines) into your yad (hand).”

20 Dawad (David) bawaa (come) to Bail (Baal) Paratzayam (Perazim), and Dawad (David) nakah (struck) them there; and he amar (spoke), “Yahawah () has paratz (broken) my ayab (enemy) panayam (face) me, like the paratz (breach) of mayam (Waters).” Therefore he qaraa (called) the sham (name) of that maqawam (place) Bail (Baal) Paratzayam (Perazim).

21 They izab (left) their itzab (images) there; and Dawad (David) and his ayash (man / husband) nashaa (lift) them away.

22 The Palashathay (Philistines) ilah (go up / offer) up yet again, and natash (spread) themselves in the imaq (valley) of Rapaa (Rephaim).

23 When Dawad (David) inquired of Yahawah (), he amar (spoke), “You shall not ilah (go up / offer) up. Circle around achar (other) them, and attack them over mawal (against) the bakaa (mulberry) trees.

24 It shall be, when you shamai (hearken / hear) the qawal (sound / voice) of marching in the raashay (tops) of the bakaa (mulberry) trees, that then you shall stir yourself up; for then Yahawah () yatzaa (go out / come out) gone out panayam (face) you to nakah (strike) the machanah (army) of the Palashathay (Philistines).”

25 Dawad (David) ishah (make) so, as Yahawah () tzawah (commanded) him, and nakah (struck) the Palashathay (Philistines) from Gabai (Geba) until you bawaa (come) to Gazar (Gezer).
