Kings 21 — Novel English Bible

It happened achar (other) these things, that Nabawath (Naboth) the yazaraialay (jezreelite) had a karam (vineyard), which was in Yazaraial (Jezreel), hard by the hayakal (palace) of Achaab (Ahab) malak (king) of Shamarawan (Samaria).

Achaab (Ahab) dabar (word / matter) to Nabawath (Naboth), amar (said), “nathan (give) me your karam (vineyard), that I may have it for a gan (garden) of yaraq (herbs), because it is qarawab (near) to my bayath (house); and I will nathan (give) you for it a tawab (good / proper function) karam (vineyard) than it. Or, if it seems tawab (good / proper function) to you, I will nathan (give) you its machayar (worth) in kasap (money).”

Nabawath (Naboth) amar (spoke) to Achaab (Ahab), “May Yahawah () chalayalah (forbid) me, that I should nathan (give) the nachalah (inheritance) of my ab (father) to you!”

Achaab (Ahab) bawaa (bring) into his bayath (house) sullen and angry because of the dabar (word / matter) which Nabawath (Naboth) the yazaraialay (jezreelite) had dabar (word / matter) to him; for he had amar (said), “I will not nathan (give) you the nachalah (inheritance) of my ab (father).” He shakab (laid) himself down on his matah (bed), and sabab (turned) away his panayam (face), and would akal (eat) no lacham (bread).

But Ayazabal (Jezebel) his ayashah (woman / wife) bawaa (bring) to him, and dabar (word / matter) to him, “Why is your rawach (spirit / wind) so sar (sad), that you akal (eat) no lacham (bread)?”

He dabar (word / matter) to her, “Because I dabar (word / matter) to Nabawath (Naboth) the yazaraialay (jezreelite), and dabar (word / matter) to him, ‘nathan (give) me your karam (vineyard) for kasap (money); or else, if it chapatz (pleases) you, I will nathan (give) you another karam (vineyard) for it.’ He amar (said), ‘I will not nathan (give) you my karam (vineyard).’”

Ayazabal (Jezebel) his ayashah (woman / wife) amar (said) to him, “ishah (make) you now govern the malawakah (kingdom) of Yashar-Al (Israel)? Qawam (rise up), and akal (eat) lacham (bread), and let your lab (heart) be yatab (merry). I will nathan (give) you the karam (vineyard) of Nabawath (Naboth) the yazaraialay (jezreelite).”

So she kathab (write) saparayam (letters) in Achaab (Ahab's) sham (name), and chatham (sealed) them with his chawatham (seal), and shalach (send) the saparayam (letters) to the zaqanayam (elders) and to the charayam (nobles) who were in his iyar (city), who lived with Nabawath (Naboth).

She kathab (write) in the saparayam (letters), amar (said), “qaraa (called) a tzawam (fast), and yashab (inhabit/dwell) Nabawath (Naboth) on raash (head) among the im (nation / people).

Yashab (inhabit/dwell) shanayam (two) anashayam (men), base fellows, before him, and let them iwad (admonish/bear witness against) amar (spoke) him, saying, ‘You barak (blessed) Alahayam () and the malak (king)!’ Then yatzaa (go out / come out) him out, and saqal (stone) him to mawath (death).”

The yaishaw (men) of his iyar (city), even the zaqanayam (elders) and the charayam (nobles) who lived in his iyar (city), ishah (make) as Ayazabal (Jezebel) had shalach (send) to them, according as it was kathab (write) in the saparayam (letters) which she had shalach (send) to them.

They qaraa (called) a tzawam (fast), and yashab (inhabit/dwell) Nabawath (Naboth) on raash (head) among the im (nation / people).

The shanayam (two) anashayam (men), the base fellows, bawaa (come) in and yashab (inhabit/dwell) before him. The base anashayam (fellows) iwad (admonish/bear witness against) against him, even against Nabawath (Naboth), in the presence of the im (nation / people), amar (spoke), “Nabawath (Naboth) barak (blessed) Alahayam () and the malak (king)!” Then they yatzaa (go out / come out) him out of the iyar (city), and saqal (stoned) him to mawath (death) with abanayam (stones).

Then they shalach (send) to Ayazabal (Jezebel), amar (said), “Nabawath (Naboth) has been saqal (stoned), and is mawath (death).”

It happened, when Ayazabal (Jezebel) shamai (hearken / hear) that Nabawath (Naboth) was saqal (stoned), and was mawath (death), that Ayazabal (Jezebel) amar (said) to Achaab (Ahab), “qawam (rise up), take yarash (possession) of the karam (vineyard) of Nabawath (Naboth) the yazaraialay (jezreelite), which he maan (refused) to nathan (give) you for kasap (money); for Nabawath (Naboth) is not chay (life), but mawath (death).”

It happened, when Achaab (Ahab) shamai (hearken / hear) that Nabawath (Naboth) was mawath (death), that Achaab (Ahab) qawam (rise up) up to yarad (go) down to the karam (vineyard) of Nabawath (Naboth) the yazaraialay (jezreelite), to take yarash (possession) of it.

The dabar (word / matter) of Yahawah () came to Alayah (Elijah) the thashabay (tishbite), amar (spoke),

“Qawam (rise up), yarad (go) down to qaraah (meet) Achaab (Ahab) malak (king) of Yashar-Al (Israel), who dwells in Shamarawan (Samaria). Behold, he is in the karam (vineyard) of Nabawath (Naboth), where he has yarad (gone) down to take yarash (possession) of it.

You shall dabar (word / matter) to him, amar (spoke), ‘Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (), “Have you ratzach (killed) and also taken yarash (possession)?”’ You shall dabar (word / matter) to him, amar (spoke), ‘Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (), “In the maqawam (place) where kalabayam (dogs) laqaq (licked) the dam (blood) of Nabawath (Naboth), kalabayam (dogs) will laqaq (lick) your dam (blood), even yours.”’”

Achaab (Ahab) amar (spoke) to Alayah (Elijah), “matzaa (have) you found me, my ayab (enemy)?” He amar (spoke), “I matzaa (have) found you, because you have makar (sold) yourself to ishah (make) that which is rai (evil) in the iyan (eye) of Yahawah ().

Behold, I will bawaa (bring) rai (evil) on you, and will utterly sweep you bair (away) and will karath (cut) off from Achaab (Ahab) everyone who urinates against a qayar (wall), and him who is itzar (shut) up and him who is izab (left) at large in Yashar-Al (Israel).

I will nathan (give) your bayath (house) like the bayath (house) of Yarabaim (Jeroboam) the ban (son) of Nabat (Nebat), and like the bayath (house) of Baishaa (Baasha) the ban (son) of Achayah (Ahijah) for the kais (provocation) with which you have provoked me to kais (anger), and have made Yashar-Al (Israel) to chataa (sin).”

Yahawah () also dabar (word / matter) of Ayazabal (Jezebel), amar (spoke), “The kalabayam (dogs) shall akal (eat) Ayazabal (Jezebel) by the chayal (rampart) of Yazaraial (Jezreel).

The kalabayam (dogs) will akal (eat) he who mawath (death) of Achaab (Ahab) in the iyar (city); and the iwap (flying) of the sky will akal (eat) he who mawath (death) in the shadah (field).”

But there was none like Achaab (Ahab), who makar (sold) himself to ishah (make) that which was rai (evil) in the iyan (eye) of Yahawah (), whom Ayazabal (Jezebel) his ayashah (woman / wife) sawath (stirred) up.

He did very thaib (abominably) in yalak (following) galalayam (idols), according to all that the Amaray (Amorites) ishah (make), whom Yahawah () yarash (cast) out panayam (face) the banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel).

It happened, when Achaab (Ahab) shamai (hearken / hear) those dabarayam (words), that he qarai (tore) his clothes, and shawam (place / establish / appoint) sackcloth on his bashar (flesh), and tzawam (fasted), and shakab (lay) in sackcloth, and halak (move) at (softly).

The dabar (word / matter) of Yahawah () came to Alayah (Elijah) the thashabay (tishbite), amar (spoke),

“Raah (see / saw) how Achaab (Ahab) kanai (humbles) panayam (face) before me? Yain (because) he kanai (humbles) panayam (face) before me, I will not bawaa (bring) the rai (evil) in his yamay (days); but in his ban (son) yamay (days) will I bawaa (bring) the rai (evil) on his bayath (house).”
