2 Kings 3 — Novel English Bible

1 Now Yahawaram (Jehoram) the ban (son) of Achaab (Ahab) began to malak (king) over Yashar-Al (Israel) in Shamarawan (Samaria) in the eighteenth shanah (year) of Yahawashapat (Jehoshaphat) malak (king) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah), and malak (king) shanayam (two) shanah (years).

2 He ishah (make) that which was rai (evil) in the iyan (eye) of Yahawah (), but not like his ab (father), and like his am (mother); for he sawar (put) away the matzabah (pillar) of Bail (Baal) that his ab (father) ishah (make) made.

3 Nevertheless he held to the chataawath (sins) of Yarabaim (Jeroboam) the ban (son) of Nabat (Nebat), with which he made Yashar-Al (Israel) to chataa (sin); he didn't sawar (depart) from it.

4 Now Mayashai (Mesha) malak (king) of Mawaab (Moab) was a sheep breeder; and he shawab (turn) to the malak (king) of Yashar-Al (Israel) the tzamar (wool) of one maah (hundred) alap (thousand) karayam (lambs), and of one maah (hundred) alap (thousand) ayalayam (rams).

5 But it happened, when Achaab (Ahab) was mawath (death), that the malak (king) of Mawaab (Moab) pashai (rebelled) against the malak (king) of Yashar-Al (Israel).

6 Malak (king) Yahawaram (Jehoram) yatzaa (go out / come out) out of Shamarawan (Samaria) at that yawam (day), and mustered all Yashar-Al (Israel).

7 He yalak (went) and shalach (send) to Yahawashapat (Jehoshaphat) the malak (king) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah), amar (said), “The malak (king) of Mawaab (Moab) has pashai (rebelled) against me. Will you yalak (go) with me against Mawaab (Moab) to malachamah (battle)?” He amar (said), “I will ilah (go up / offer) up. I am as you are, my im (nation / people) as your im (nation / people), my sawas (horses) as your sawas (horses).”

8 He amar (said), “Which darak (way) shall we ilah (go up / offer) up?” He amar (said), “The darak (way) of the madabar (wilderness) of Adawam (Edom).”

9 So the malak (king) of Yashar-Al (Israel) yalak (went), and the malak (king) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah), and the malak (king) of Adawam (Edom); and they sabab (made) a circuit of shabai (seven) yamayam (days) darak (journey). There was no mayam (Waters) for the machanah (army), nor for the animals that ragal (feet / foot) them.

10 The malak (king) of Yashar-Al (Israel) amar (spoke), “ahah (alas)! For Yahawah () has qaraa (called) these shalawash (three) malakayam (kings) together to nathan (give) them into the yad (hand) of Mawaab (Moab).”

11 But Yahawashapat (Jehoshaphat) amar (spoke), “Isn't there here a nabayaa (prophet/prophecy) of Yahawah (), that we may darash (inquire) of Yahawah () by him?” Achad (one) of the malak (king) of Yashar-Al (Israel's) ibaday (servants) inah (answer / respond), “Alayashai (Elisha) the ban (son) of Shapat (Shaphat) is here, who yatzaq (poured) mayam (Waters) on the yaday (hands) of Alayah (Elijah).”

12 Yahawashapat (Jehoshaphat) amar (spoke), “The dabar (word / matter) of Yahawah () is with him.” So the malak (king) of Yashar-Al (Israel) and Yahawashapat (Jehoshaphat) and the malak (king) of Adawam (Edom) yarad (went) down to him.

13 Alayashai (Elisha) amar (spoke) to the malak (king) of Yashar-Al (Israel), “What have I to do with you? Yalak (go) to the nabayaay (prophets) of your ab (father), and to the nabayaay (prophets) of your am (mother).” The malak (king) of Yashar-Al (Israel) amar (spoke) to him, “No; for Yahawah () has qaraa (called) these shalawash (three) malakayam (kings) together to nathan (give) them into the yad (hand) of Mawaab (Moab).”

14 Alayashai (Elisha) amar (spoke), “As Yahawah () of tzabaawath (armies) chay (life), panayam (face) whom I imad (stand), surely, were it not that I nashaa (lift) the panayam (face) of Yahawashapat (Jehoshaphat) the malak (king) of Yahawadah (Judah), I would not nabat (look) toward you, nor raah (see) you.

15 But now laqach (take / seize) me a minstrel.” It happened, when the minstrel nagan (played), that the yad (hand) of Yahawah () came on him.

16 He amar (spoke), “Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (), ‘ishah (make) this nachal (stream / river) full of trenches.’

17 For thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (), ‘You will not raah (see) rawach (spirit / wind), neither will you raah (see) gasham (rain); yet that nachal (stream / river) shall be malaa (filled) with mayam (Waters), and you will shathah (drinks), both you and your livestock and your animals.

18 This is but a qalal (light) thing in the iyan (eye) of Yahawah (). He will also nathan (give) the Mawaab (Moabites) into your yad (hand).

19 You shall nakah (strike) every fortified iyar (city), and every mabachawar (choice) iyar (city), and shall napal (fall / be cast down) every tawab (good / proper function) itz (tree), and satham (stop) all maiyanay (springs) of mayam (Waters), and kaab (mar) every tawab (good / proper function) chalaqah (piece) of land with abanayam (stones).’”

20 It happened in the baqar (morning), about the time of ilah (go up / offer) the ilah (go up / offer), that behold, mayam (Waters) bawaa (bring) by the darak (way) of Adawam (Edom), and the aratz (Earth/land) was malaa (filled) with mayam (Waters).

21 Now when all the Mawaab (Moabites) shamai (hearken / hear) that the malakayam (kings) had ilah (go up / offer) up to lacham (fight) against them, they tzaiq (gathered) themselves together, all who were chagar (able) to put on armor, and upward, and imad (stood) on the gabawal (border/boundary).

22 They shakam (rose) up early in the baqar (morning), and the shamash (sun) shone on the mayam (Waters), and the Mawaab (Moabites) raah (see / saw) the mayam (Waters) over nagad (against) them as adam (red) as dam (blood).

23 They amar (said), “This is dam (blood). The malakayam (kings) are charab (surely) charab (destroyed), and they have struck ayash (man / husband) other. Now therefore, Mawaab (Moab), to the shalal (spoil)!”

24 When they bawaa (bring) to the machanah (camp) of Yashar-Al (Israel), the Yashar-Al (Israelites) qawam (rise up) up and nakah (struck) the Mawaab (Moabites), so that they nawas (fled) panayam (face) them; and they nakah (went) forward into the land nakah (smiting) the Mawaab (Moabites).

25 They haras (beat) down the irayam (cities); and on every tawab (good / proper function) chalaqah (piece) of land they shalak (cast) every ayash (man / husband) his aban (stone), and malaa (filled) it; and they satham (stopped) all the maiyan (springs) of mayam (Waters), and felled all the tawab (good / proper function) itz (trees), until in Qayaracharash (Kir Hareseth) only they shaar (left) its aban (stone); however the men armed with slings sabab (went) about it, and nakah (struck) it.

26 When the malak (king) of Mawaab (Moab) raah (see / saw) that the malachamah (battle) was too severe for him, he laqach (take / seize) with him shabai (seven) maah (hundred) ayash (man / husband) who shalap (drew) charab (sword), to baqai (break) through to the malak (king) of Adawam (Edom); but they yakal (could) not.

27 Then he laqach (take / seize) his bakawar (eldest) ban (son) who would have malak (king) in his place, and ilah (go up / offer) him for a burnt ilah (offering) on the chawamah (wall). There was gadawal (very great/important/mighty) qatzap (wrath) against Yashar-Al (Israel): and they departed from him, and shawab (turn) to their own aratz (Earth/land).
