2 Kings 7 — Novel English Bible

1 Alayashai (Elisha) amar (spoke), shamai (hearken / hear) the dabar (word / matter) of Yahawah (). “Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (), ‘machar (tomorrow) about this ith (time) a saah (measure) of fine salath (flour) will be sold for a shaqal (shekel), and two saathayam (measures) of shairah (barley) for a shaqal (shekel), in the shair (gate) of Shamarawan (Samaria).’”

2 Then the shalayash (captain) on whose yad (hand) the malak (king) shain (leaned) inah (answer / respond) the ayash (man / husband) of Alahayam (), and amar (spoke), “Behold, if Yahawah () ishah (make) arabawath (windows) in shamayam (Shamayam / Heavens), could this thing be?” He amar (spoke), “raah (see), you shall see it with your iyan (eye), but shall not akal (eat) of it.”

3 Now there were arabai (four) tzarai (leprous) anashayam (men) at the pathach (entrance) of the shair (gate). They amar (said) ayash (man / husband) to rai (neigbor/another person), “Why do we yashab (inhabit/dwell) here until we mawath (death)?

4 If we amar (said), ‘We will bawaa (bring) into the iyar (city),’ then the raib (famine) is in the iyar (city), and we shall mawath (death) there. If we yashab (inhabit/dwell) still here, we also mawath (death). Now therefore yalak (come), and napal (fall / be cast down) us surrender to the machanah (army) of the Aram (Syrians). If they chayah (save) us alive, we will chayah (live); and if they mawath (death) us, we will only mawath (death).”

5 They qawam (rise up) up in the nashap (twilight), to bawaa (bring) to the machanah (camp) of the Aram (Syrians). When they bawaa (bring) come to the outermost part of the machanah (camp) of the Aram (Syrians), behold, there was no ayash (man / husband) there.

6 For the Adanay () had made the machanah (army) of the Aram (Syrians) to shamai (hearken / hear) a qawal (sound / voice) of rakab (chariots), and a qawal (sound / voice) of sawas (horses), even the qawal (sound / voice) of a gadawal (very great/important/mighty) chayal (wealth / substance / capability / valor): and they amar (spoke) ayash (man / husband) to ach (brother/kinsman), “Behold, the malak (king) of Yashar-Al (Israel) has shakar (hired) against us the malakay (kings) of the Chathay (Hittites), and the malakay (kings) of the Matzarayam (Egyptians), to bawaa (come) on us.”

7 Therefore they qawam (rise up) and nawas (fled) in the nashap (twilight), and izab (left) their ahal (tents), and their sawas (horses), and their donkeys, even the machanah (camp) as it was, and nawas (fled) for their napash (soul).

8 When these matzaraiyam (lepers) bawaa (bring) to the outermost part of the machanah (camp), they bawaa (bring) into achad (one) ahal (tent), and akal (eat) and shathah (drinks), and nashaa (lift) there kasap (silver), and zahab (gold), and bagad (clothing), and yalak (went) and taman (hid) it. Then they shawab (turn) back, and bawaa (bring) into achar (other) ahal (tent), and nashaa (lift) there also, and yalak (went) and taman (hid) it.

9 Then they amar (said) ayash (man / husband) to rai (neigbor/another person), “We aren't ishah (make) right. This yawam (day) is a yawam (day) of bashawarah (good) news, and we chashah (keep) silent. If we chakah (wait) until the baqar (morning) awar (light), iwan (guilt/iniquity) will overtake us. Now therefore matzaa (come), yalak (let) us go and nagad (tell) the malak (king) bayath (house).”

10 So they bawaa (bring) and qaraa (called) to the shawair (porter) of the iyar (city); and they nagad (told) them, amar (said), “We bawaa (bring) to the machanah (camp) of the Aram (Syrians), and, behold, there was no ayash (man / husband) there, neither qawal (sound / voice) of adam (man), but the sawas (horses) asar (tied), and the donkeys asar (tied), and the ahalayam (tents) as they were.”

11 He qaraa (called) the shairayam (porters); and they nagad (told) it to the malak (king) bayath (house) panayamah (within).

12 The malak (king) qawam (rise up) in the layal (night), and amar (said) to his ibad (servant), “I will now show you what the Aram (Syrians) ishah (make) done to us. They yadai (know) that we are raib (hungry). Therefore are they yatzaa (go out / come out) out of the machanah (camp) to chabah (hide) themselves in the shadah (field), amar (said), ‘When they yatzaa (go out / come out) out of the iyar (city), we shall thapash (take) them chay (life), and bawaa (bring) into the iyar (city).’”

13 Achad (one) of his ibad (servant) inah (answer / respond), “Please let some laqach (take / seize) chamash (five) of the sawasayam (horses) that shaar (remain), which are shaar (left) in the city. Behold, they are like all the hamawan (multitude) of Yashar-Al (Israel) who are shaar (left) in it. Behold, they are like all the hamawan (multitude) of Yashar-Al (Israel) who are thamam (consumed). Shalach (send) us send and raah (see / saw).”

14 They laqach (take / seize) therefore shanayam (two) rakab (chariots) with sawasayam (horses); and the malak (king) shalach (send) achar (other) the machanah (army) of the Aram (Syrians), amar (said), “yalak (go) and raah (see / saw).”

15 They yalak (went) achar (other) them to the Yaradan (Jordan); and behold, all the darak (way) malaa (was) full of bagadayam (garments) and kalayam (vessels), which the Aram (Syrians) had shalak (cast) away in their chapaz (haste). The malaakayam (messengers) shawab (turn), and nagad (told) the malak (king).

16 The im (nation / people) yatzaa (go out / come out) out, and plundered the machanah (camp) of the Aram (Syrians). So a saah (measure) of fine salath (flour) was sold for a shaqal (shekel), and two saathayam (measures) of shairah (barley) for a shaqal (shekel), according to the dabar (word / matter) of Yahawah ().

17 The malak (king) paqad (visit) the shalayash (captain) on whose yad (hand) he shain (leaned) to be in charge of the shair (gate): and the im (nation / people) ramas (trod) on him in the shair (gate), and he mawath (death) as the ayash (man / husband) of Alahayam () had dabar (word / matter), who dabar (word / matter) when the malak (king) yarad (came) down to him.

18 It happened, as the ayash (man / husband) of Alahayam () had dabar (word / matter) to the malak (king), amar (spoke), “Two saathayam (measures) of shairah (barley) for a shaqal (shekel), and a saah (measure) of fine salath (flour) for a shaqal (shekel), shall be machar (tomorrow) about this ith (time) in the shair (gate) of Shamarawan (Samaria);”

19 And that shalayash (captain) inah (answer / respond) the ayash (man / husband) of Alahayam (), and amar (spoke), “Now, behold, if Yahawah () should ishah (make) arabawath (windows) in shamayam (Shamayam / Heavens), might such a thing be?” And he amar (spoke), “raah (see), you shall see it with your iyan (eye), but shall not akal (eat) of it.”

20 It happened like that to him; for the im (nation / people) ramas (trod) on him in the shair (gate), and he mawath (death).
