1 It happened achar (other) this, that Nachash (Nahash) the malak (king) of the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon) mawath (death), and his ban (son) malak (king) in his place.
2 Dawad (David) amar (said), “I will show chasad (grace) to Chanawan (Hanun) the ban (son) of Nachash (Nahash), because his ab (father) showed chasad (grace) to me.” So Dawad (David) shalach (send) malaakayam (messengers) to nacham (turn away / repent) him concerning his ab (father). Dawad (David's) ibaday (servant of) bawaa (bring) into the aratz (Earth/land) of the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon) to Chanawan (Hanun), to nacham (turn away / repent) him.
3 But the sharay (princes) of the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon) amar (said) to Chanawan (Hanun), “Do you iyan (eye) that Dawad (David) honors your ab (father), in that he has shalach (send) comforters to you? Haven't his ibad (servant) bawaa (bring) to you to chaqar (search), to hapak (overthrow), and to ragal (spy) out the aratz (Earth/land)?”
4 So Chanawan (Hanun) laqach (take / seize) Dawad (David's) ibaday (servant of), and galach (shaved) them, and karath (cut) off their madaw (garments) in the chatzay (middle), even to their mapashaih (buttocks), and shalach (send) them away.
5 Then there yalak (went) certain persons, and nagad (told) Dawad (David) how the anashayam (men) were served. He shalach (send) to qaraah (meet) them; for the anashayam (men) were maad (greatly) kalam (ashamed). The malak (king) amar (said), “Stay at Yarayachaw (Jericho) until your zaqan (beards) have tzamach (grown), and then shawab (turn).”
6 When the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon) raah (see / saw) that they baash (had) made themselves odious to Dawad (David), Chanawan (Hanun) and the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon) shalach (send) one alap (thousand) kakar (talents) of kasap (silver) to shakar (hire) them rakab (chariots) and horsemen out of Aramanaharayam (Mesopotamia), and out of Aram (Arammaacah), and out of Tzawabaa (Zobah).
7 So they shakar (hired) for themselves shalawashayam (thirty) - shanayam (two) alap (thousand) rakab (chariots), and the malak (king) of Maikah (Maacah) and his im (nation / people), who bawaa (bring) and chanah (encamped) panayam (face) May-Dabaa (Medeba). The banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon) asap (gathered) themselves together from their iyar (cities), and bawaa (bring) to malachamah (battle).
8 When Dawad (David) shamai (hearken / hear) of it, he shalach (send) Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab), and all the tzabaa (troop) of the gabawar (mighty) men.
9 The banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon) yatzaa (go out / come out) out, and put the malachamah (battle) in irak (array) at the pathach (gate) of the iyar (city): and the malakayam (kings) who bawaa (bring) come were by themselves in the shadah (field).
10 Now when Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) raah (see / saw) that the malachamah (battle) panayam (face) set against him before and achawar (behind), he bachar (chose) of all the choice men of Yashar-Al (Israel), and irak (put) them in array qaraah (against) the Aram (Syrians).
11 The yathar (rest) of the im (nation / people) he nathan (give) into the yad (hand) of Abayashay (Abishai) his ach (brother/kinsman); and they irak (put) themselves in array qaraah (against) the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon).
12 He amar (said), “If the Aram (Syrians) are too chazaq (strong) for me, then you are to thashawaih (deliverance) me; but if the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon) are too chazaq (strong) for you, then I will yashai (salvation) you.
13 Be courageous, and let us be chazaq (strong) for our im (nation / people), and for the iray (cities) of our Alahayam (). May Yahawah () ishah (make) that which seems tawab (good / proper function) to him.”
14 So Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) and the im (nation / people) who were with him nagash (drew) near panayam (face) the Aram (Syrians) to the malachamah (battle); and they nawas (fled) panayam (face) him.
15 When the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon) raah (see / saw) that the Aram (Syrians) had nawas (fled), they likewise nawas (fled) panayam (face) Abayashay (Abishai) his ach (brother/kinsman), and bawaa (bring) into the iyar (city). Then Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) bawaa (bring) to Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem).
16 When the Aram (Syrians) raah (see) that they were defeated by Yashar-Al (Israel), they shalach (send) malaakayam (messengers), and yatzaa (go out / come out) forth the Aram (Syrians) who were ibar (beyond) the nahar (river), with Shawapak (Shophach) the shar (prince / ruler) of the tzabaa (troop) of Hadadaizar (Hadadezer) at their panayam (face).
17 It was nagad (told) Dawad (David); and he asap (gathered) all Yashar-Al (Israel) together, and ibar (pass over/through) over the Yaradan (Jordan), and bawaa (bring) on them, and irak (set) the battle in array against them. So when Dawad (David) had put the malachamah (battle) in irak (array) qaraah (against) the Aram (Syrians), they lacham (fought) with him.
18 The Aram (Syrians) nawas (fled) panayam (face) Yashar-Al (Israel); and Dawad (David) harag (kill) of the Aram (Syrians) the men of shabai (seven) alap (thousand) rakab (chariots), and arabaiyam (forty) alap (thousand) footmen, and mawath (death) Shawapak (Shophach) the shar (prince / ruler) of the tzabaa (troop).
19 When the ibaday (servants) of Hadadaizar (Hadadezer) raah (see) that they were defeated by Yashar-Al (Israel), they made shalam (peace) with Dawad (David), and ibad (servant) him: neither would the Aram (Syrians) yashai (salvation) the banay (children) of Imawan (Ammon) any more.
