1 Shatan (satan) imad (stood) up against Yashar-Al (Israel), and sawath (moved) Dawad (David) to manah (number) Yashar-Al (Israel).
2 Dawad (David) amar (said) to Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) and to the sharay (princes) of the im (nation / people), “yalak (go), sapar (book) Yashar-Al (Israel) from Baar-Shabai (Beersheba) even to Dan (Dan); and bawaa (bring) me word, that I may yadai (know) the sum of them.”
3 Yawaab (Joab) amar (spoke), “May Yahawah () make his im (nation / people) a maah (hundred) paimayam (times) as many as they are. But, my Adawan () the malak (king), aren't they all my Adawan () ibadayam (servants)? Why does my Adawan () baqash (require) this thing? Why will he be a cause of ashamah (guilt) to Yashar-Al (Israel)?”
4 Nevertheless the malak (king) dabar (word / matter) chazaq (prevailed) against Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab). Therefore Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) departed, and halak (move) throughout all Yashar-Al (Israel), and bawaa (bring) to Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem).
5 Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) nathan (give) up the sum of the mapaqad (numbering) of the im (nation / people) to Dawad (David). All those of Yashar-Al (Israel) were alap (one) million one maah (hundred) alap (thousand) ayash (man / husband) who shalap (drew) charab (sword): and in Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) were arabai (four) maah (hundred) shabaiyam (seventy) alap (thousand) ayash (man / husband) who shalap (drew) charab (sword).
6 But he didn't paqad (visit) Laway (Levi) and Banayamayan (Benjamin) thawak (midst) them; for the malak (king) dabar (word / matter) was thaib (abominable) to Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab).
7 Alahayam () was displeased with this thing; therefore he nakah (struck) Yashar-Al (Israel).
8 Dawad (David) amar (spoke) to Alahayam (), “I have chataa (sinned) maad (greatly), in that I ishah (make) done this thing. But now, ibar (pass over/through) away, I beg you, the iwan (guilt/iniquity) of your ibad (servant); for I have done very foolishly.”
9 Yahawah () dabar (word / matter) to Gad (Gad), Dawad (David's) chazah (seer), amar (spoke),
10 “Yalak (go) and dabar (word / matter) to Dawad (David), amar (spoke), ‘Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (), “I natah (offer) you shalawash (three) things. Bachar (choose) achad (one) of them, that I may ishah (make) it to you.”’”
11 So Gad (Gad) bawaa (come) to Dawad (David), and amar (spoke) to him, “Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (), ‘qabal (take) your choice:
12 Either shalawash (three) shanayam (years) of raib (famine); or shalawash (three) chadashayam (months) to be sapah (consumed) panayam (face) your tzar (oppressor / distressor), while the charab (sword) of your ayab (enemy) nashag (overtakes) you; or else shalawash (three) yamayam (days) the charab (sword) of Yahawah (), even dabar (word / matter) in the aratz (Earth/land), and the malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) of Yahawah () shachath (destroying) throughout all the gabawal (border/boundary) of Yashar-Al (Israel). Now therefore raah (see) dabar (word / matter) answer I shall shawab (turn back / repent) to him who shalach (send) me.’”
13 Dawad (David) amar (spoke) to Gad (Gad), “I am in tzar (oppressor / distressor). Napal (fall / be cast down) me fall, I pray, into the yad (hand) of Yahawah (); for his racham (show mercy / love) are very rab (great). Napal (fall / be cast down) me not fall into the yad (hand) of adam (man).”
14 So Yahawah () nathan (give) a dabar (word / matter) on Yashar-Al (Israel); and shabaiyam (seventy) alap (thousand) ayash (man / husband) of Yashar-Al (Israel) napal (fall / be cast down).
15 Alahayam () shalach (send) an malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) to Yarawashalam (Jerusalem) to shachath (destroy) it. As he was about to shachath (destroy), Yahawah () raah (see), and he relented of the disaster, and amar (spoke) to the shachath (destroying) malaak (angel / messenger of Yah), “It is rab (enough); now rapah (stay) your yad (hand).” The malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) of Yahawah () was imad (standing) by the garan (threshing) floor of Aranan (Ornan) the Yabawasay (Jebusite).
16 Dawad (David) nashaa (lift) up his iyan (eye), and raah (see) the malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) of Yahawah () imad (standing) between aratz (Earth/land) and the sky, having a shalap (drawn) charab (sword) in his yad (hand) natah (stretched) out over Yarawashalam (Jerusalem). Then Dawad (David) and the zaqanayam (elders), kasah (clothed) in sackcloth, napal (fall / be cast down) on their panayam (face).
17 Dawad (David) amar (spoke) to Alahayam (), “Isn't it I who commanded the im (nation / people) to be manah (numbered)? It is even I who have chataa (sinned) and raii (wicked / dysfunctional / evil) very wickedly; but these tzaan (sheep), what ishah (make) they done? Please let your yad (hand), O Yahawah () my Alahayam (), be against me, and against my ab (father) bayath (house); but not against your im (nation / people), that they should be magapah (plagued).”
18 Then the malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) of Yahawah () commanded Gad (Gad) to amar (spoke) Dawad (David) that Dawad (David) should ilah (go up / offer) up, and qawam (rise up) an mazabach (altar) to Yahawah () in the garan (threshing) floor of Aranan (Ornan) the Yabawasay (Jebusite).
19 Dawad (David) ilah (go up / offer) up at the dabar (word / matter) of Gad (Gad), which he dabar (word / matter) in the sham (name) of Yahawah ().
20 Aranan (Ornan) shawab (turn) back, and raah (see / saw) the malaak (angel / messenger of Yah); and his arabai (four) ban (son) who were with him chabaa (hid) themselves. Now Aranan (Ornan) was dawash (threshing) chatah (wheat).
21 As Dawad (David) bawaa (bring) to Aranan (Ornan), Aranan (Ornan) nabat (looked) and nabat (saw) Dawad (David), and yatzaa (go out / come out) out of the garan (threshing) floor, and shachah (bowed) himself to Dawad (David) with his ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) to the aratz (Earth/land).
22 Then Dawad (David) amar (spoke) to Aranan (Ornan), “nathan (give) me the maqawam (place) of this garan (threshing) floor, that I may banah (build) thereon an mazabach (altar) to Yahawah (). You shall sell it to me for the malaa (full) kasap (price), that the magapah (plague) may be itzar (stopped) from afflicting the im (nation / people).”
23 Aranan (Ornan) amar (spoke) to Dawad (David), “laqach (take / seize) it for yourself, and let my Adawan () the malak (king) ishah (make) that which is tawab (good / proper function) in his iyan (eye). Raah (see), I nathan (give) the oxen for burnt ilawath (offerings), and the mawarag (threshing) instruments for itz (wood), and the chatah (wheat) for the meal manachah (offering). I nathan (give) it all.”
24 Malak (king) Dawad (David) amar (spoke) to Aranan (Ornan), “No; but I will most certainly qanah (buy) it for the malaa (full) kasap (price). For I will not nashaa (lift) that which is yours for Yahawah (), nor ilah (go up / offer) a burnt ilah (offering) chanam (without) cost.”
25 So Dawad (David) nathan (give) to Aranan (Ornan) shash (six) maah (hundred) shaqalay (shekels) of zahab (gold) by mashaqal (weight) for the maqawam (place).
26 Dawad (David) banah (build) an mazabach (altar) to Yahawah () there, and ilah (go up / offer) burnt ilawath (offerings) and peace ilawath (offerings), and qaraa (called) on Yahawah (); and he inah (answer / respond) him from the sky by ash (fire) on the mazabach (altar) of burnt ilah (offering).
27 Yahawah () commanded the malaak (angel / messenger of Yah); and he shawab (turn back / repent) up his charab (sword) again into its nadan (sheath).
28 At that ith (time), when Dawad (David) raah (see) that Yahawah () had inah (answer / respond) him in the garan (threshing) floor of Aranan (Ornan) the Yabawasay (Jebusite), then he zabach (sacrificed) there.
29 For the mashakan (tabernacle) of Yahawah (), which Mashah (Moses) ishah (make) in the madabar (wilderness), and the mazabach (altar) of burnt ilah (offering), were at that ith (time) in the bamah (high) place at Gabaiwan (Gibeon).
30 But Dawad (David) couldn't yalak (go) panayam (face) it to darash (inquire) of Alahayam (); for he was baith (afraid) panayam (face) of the charab (sword) of the malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) of Yahawah ().
