2 Chronicles 20 — Novel English Bible

1 It happened achar (other) this, that the banay (my son) of Mawaab (Moab), and the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon), and with them some of the Imawanay (Ammonites), bawaa (bring) against Yahawashapat (Jehoshaphat) to malachamah (battle).

2 Then some bawaa (bring) who nagad (told) Yahawashapat (Jehoshaphat), amar (said), “A rab (great) hamawan (multitude) is bawaa (bring) ibar (against) you from beyond the yam (sea/waters) from Aram (Syria). Behold, they are in Hazazon Chatzatzawanathamar (Tamar) (that is, Iyan-Gaday (En Gedi)).

3 Yahawashapat (Jehoshaphat) was alarmed, and nathan (give) panayam (face) to darash (seek) to Yahawah (). He qaraa (called) a tzawam (fast) il (over) all Yahawadah (Judah).

4 Yahawadah (Judah) qabatz (gathered) themselves together, to baqash (seek) help from Yahawah (). They bawaa (come) out of all the iray (cities) of Yahawadah (Judah) to baqash (seek) Yahawah ().

5 Yahawashapat (Jehoshaphat) imad (stood) in the qahal (assembly) of Yahawadah (Judah) and Yarawashalam (Jerusalem), in the bayath (house) of Yahawah (), panayam (face) the chadash (new) chatzar (court);

6 And he amar (spoke), “Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of our ab (father), aren't you Alahayam () in shamayam (Shamayam / Heavens)? Aren't you mashal (rule/have dominion) over all the mamalakawath (kingdoms) of the gawayam (nations)? Kach (strength / mighty / power) and gabawarah (might) are in your yad (hand), so that no one is yatzab (able) to withstand you.

7 Didn't you, our Alahayam (), yarash (drive) out the yashabay (inhabitants) of this aratz (Earth/land) panayam (face) your im (nation / people) Yashar-Al (Israel), and nathan (give) it to the zarai (seed) of Abaraham (Abraham) your ahab (love) iwalam (forever)?

8 They lived in it, and have banah (build) you a maqadash (sanctuary) in it for your sham (name), amar (said),

9 ‘If rai (evil) bawaa (bring) on us—the charab (sword), shapawat (judgment), dabar (word / matter), or famine—we will imad (stand) before this bayath (house), and panayam (face) you, (for your sham (name) is in this bayath (house)), and zaiq (cry) to you in our tzarah (affliction), and you will shamai (hearken / hear) and yashai (salvation).’

10 Now, behold, the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon) and Mawaab (Moab) and har (mountain) Shaiyar (Seir), whom you nathan (give) not let Yashar-Al (Israel) bawaa (bring), when they bawaa (bring) out of the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt), but they sawar (turned) aside from them, and didn't shamad (destroy) them;

11 Behold, how they gamal (reward) us, to bawaa (bring) to garash (cast) us out of your yarashah (possession), which you have yarash (given) us to inherit.

12 Our Alahayam (), will you not shapat (judge / judgement) them? For we have no kach (strength / mighty / power) panayam (face) this rab (great) hamawan (company) that bawaa (come) against us; neither yadai (know) we what to ishah (make), but our iyan (eye) are on you.”

13 All Yahawadah (Judah) imad (stood) panayam (face) Yahawah (), with their little tap (ones), their wives, and their ban (son).

14 Then the rawach (spirit / wind) of Yahawah () came on Yachazayaal (Jahaziel) the ban (son) of Zakarayah (Zechariah), the ban (son) of Banayah (Benaiah), the ban (son) of Yaiyaal (Jeiel), the ban (son) of Mathanayah (Mattaniah), the Lawayay (Levite), of the banay (sons) of Asap (Asaph), in the thawak (midst) of the qahal (assembly);

15 And he amar (spoke), “Listen, all Yahawadah (Judah), and you yashabay (inhabitants) of Yarawashalam (Jerusalem), and you malak (king) Yahawashapat (Jehoshaphat). Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah () to you, ‘Don't be yaraa (fear / be afraid), neither be chathath (dismayed) by panayam (face) of this rab (great) hamawan (multitude); for the malachamah (battle) is not yours, but Alahayam ().

16 Machar (tomorrow) yarad (go) down against them. Behold, they are ilah (go up / offer) up by the ascent of Tzayatz (Ziz). You shall matzaa (find) them at the sawap (end) of the nachal (stream / river), panayam (face) the madabar (wilderness) of Yarawaal (Jeruel).

17 You will not need to lacham (fight) zaath (this) battle. Yatzab (set) yourselves, imad (stand) still, and raah (see) the yashawaih (salvation) of Yahawah () with you, O Yahawadah (Judah) and Yarawashalam (Jerusalem). Don't be yaraa (fear / be afraid), nor be chathath (dismayed). Yatzaa (go out / come out) out panayam (face) them machar (tomorrow), for Yahawah () is with you.’”

18 Yahawashapat (Jehoshaphat) qadad (bowed) his head with his ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) to the aratz (Earth/land); and all Yahawadah (Judah) and the yashabay (inhabitants) of Yarawashalam (Jerusalem) napal (fall / be cast down) down panayam (face) Yahawah (), shachah (worshipping) Yahawah ().

19 The Lawayay (Levites), of the banay (children) of the Qahathay (Kohathites) and of the banay (children) of the qarachayam (korahites), qawam (rise up) up to halal (praise) Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel), with an mail (top/above) gadawal (very great/important/mighty) qawal (sound / voice).

20 They shakam (rose) early in the baqar (morning), and yatzaa (go out / come out) forth into the madabar (wilderness) of Thaqawai (Tekoa): and as they yatzaa (go out / come out) forth, Yahawashapat (Jehoshaphat) imad (stood) and amar (spoke), “shamai (hearken / hear) to me, Yahawadah (Judah), and you yashabay (inhabitants) of Yarawashalam (Jerusalem)! Aman (believe / have faith) in Yahawah () your Alahayam (), so you shall be aman (believe / have faith)! Aman (believe / have faith) his nabayaa (prophet/prophecy), so you shall tzalach (prosper).”

21 When he had taken yaitz (counsel) with the im (nation / people), he imad (appointed) those who should shayar (sing) to Yahawah (), and give halal (praise) in qadash (set apart / make holy) array, as they yatzaa (go out / come out) out panayam (face) the army, and amar (spoke), “Give hawadaw (thanks) to Yahawah (); for his loving chasad (grace) endures iwalam (forever).”

22 When they chalal (began) to ranah (sing) and to thahalah (praise), Yahawah () nathan (give) ambushers against the banay (children) of Imawan (Ammon), Mawaab (Moab), and har (mountain) Shaiyar (Seir), who bawaa (come) come against Yahawadah (Judah); and they were nagap (struck).

23 For the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon) and Mawaab (Moab) imad (stood) up against the yashabay (inhabitants) of har (mountain) Shaiyar (Seir), charam (utterly) to kill and shamad (destroy) them: and when they kalah (complete / finish) made an end of the yashabay (inhabitants) of Shaiyar (Seir), everyone izar (helped) to mashachayath (destroy) rai (neigbor/another person).

24 When Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) bawaa (bring) to the place overlooking the madabar (wilderness), they panah (turn) at the hamawan (multitude); and behold, they were pagar (dead) bodies napal (fall / be cast down) to the aratz (Earth/land), and there were none who palayatah (escaped).

25 When Yahawashapat (Jehoshaphat) and his im (nation / people) bawaa (bring) to bazaz (take) their shalal (spoil), they matzaa (found) among them in rab (abundance) both riches and pagar (dead) bodies, and chamad (precious) kalay (jewels), which they natzal (stripped) off for themselves, more than they could mashaa (carry) away: and they were shalawash (three) yamayam (days) in bazaz (taking) the shalal (spoil), it was so much.

26 On the rabayaiy (fourth) yawam (day) they qahal (assembled) themselves in the imaq (valley) of Barakah (Beracah); for there they barak (blessed) Yahawah (): therefore the sham (name) of that maqawam (place) was qaraa (called) “The imaq (valley)” of Barakah (Beracah) to this yawam (day).

27 Then they shawab (turn back / repent), every ayash (man / husband) of Yahawadah (Judah) and Yarawashalam (Jerusalem), and Yahawashapat (Jehoshaphat) in their raash (head), to shawab (turn back / repent) again to Yarawashalam (Jerusalem) with shamachah (joy); for Yahawah () shamach (had) made them to rejoice over their ayab (enemy).

28 They bawaa (come) to Yarawashalam (Jerusalem) with stringed instruments and kanarawath (harps) and chatzatzarawath (trumpets) to the bayath (house) of Yahawah ().

29 The pachad (fear / dread) of Alahayam () was on all the mamalakawath (kingdoms) of the aratzawath (countries), when they shamai (hearken / hear) that Yahawah () lacham (fought) against the awayabay (enemies) of Yashar-Al (Israel).

30 So the malakawath (realm) of Yahawashapat (Jehoshaphat) was shaqat (quiet); for his Alahayam () gave him nawach (rest) all around.

31 Yahawashapat (Jehoshaphat) malak (king) over Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah): he was shalawashayam (thirty) - chamash (five) shanah (years) ban (son) when he began to malak (king); and he malak (king) isharayam (twenty) - chamash (five) shanah (years) in Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem): and his am (mother) sham (name) was Izawabah (Azubah) the banath (daughter) of Shalachay (Shilhi).

32 He yalak (walked) in the darak (way) of Asaa (Asa) his ab (father), and didn't sawar (turn) aside from it, ishah (make) that which was yashar (upright) in the iyanay (eyes) of Yahawah ().

33 However the bamah (high) places were not sawar (taken) away; neither as yet had the im (nation / people) kawan (set) their labab (hearts) to the Alahayam () of their ab (father).

34 Now the yathar (rest) of the dabaray (acts) of Yahawashapat (Jehoshaphat), raashawan (first) and acharawan (last), behold, they are kathab (write) in the history of Yahawaa (Jehu) the ban (son) of Chananay (Hanani), which is inserted in the sapar (book / scribed document) of the malakay (kings) of Yashar-Al (Israel).

35 Achar (other) this Yahawashapat (Jehoshaphat) malak (king) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) chabar (joined) himself with Achazayah (Ahaziah) malak (king) of Yashar-Al (Israel). The same ishah (make) very wickedly:

36 And he chabar (joined) himself with him to ishah (make) anayawath (ships) to yalak (go) to Tharashayash (Tarshish); and they ishah (make) the anayawath (ships) in Itzayawanagabar (Ezion Geber).

37 Then Alayaizar (Eliezer) the ban (son) of Dawadawahaw (Dodavahu) of Maraashah (Mareshah) nabaa (prophesied) against Yahawashapat (Jehoshaphat), amar (spoke), “Because you chabar (have) joined yourself with Achazayah (Ahaziah), Yahawah () has destroyed your maishah (works).” The anayawath (ships) were paratz (broken), so that they were not itzar (able) to yalak (go) to Tharashayash (Tarshish).
