Ezra 5 — Novel English Bible

1 Now the nabayaay (prophets), Chagay (Haggai) the nabayaa (prophet/prophecy), and Zakarayah (Zechariah) the bar (son) of Idaw (Iddo), nabaa (prophesied) to the Yahawadaay (Jews) who were in Yahawad (Judah) and Yarawashalam (Jerusalem); in the sham (name) of the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel) they prophesied to them.

2 Then qawam (rise up) up Zarababal (Zerubbabel) the bar (son) of Shaalathayaal (Shealtiel), and Yashawai (Jeshua) the bar (son) of Yawatzadaq (Jozadak), and sharaa (began) to banaa (build) the bayath (house) of Alahayam () which is at Yarawashalam (Jerusalem); and with them were the nabayaay (prophets) of Alahayam (), said (helping) them.

3 At the same zaman (time) athah (you (masc)) to them Tattenai, the pachah (governor) Ibar (beyond) the nahar (river), and Shatharabawazanay (Shetharbozenai), and their kanath (companions), and amar (said) kan (for sure) to them, “Who shawam (place / establish / appoint) you a decree to banaa (build) dan (this) bayath (house), and to kalal (finish) dan (this) asharanaa (wall)?”

4 Then we amar (said) them in kanamaa (this) way, man (from) the shamahath (names) of the gabaray (men) were who were banaa (making) dan (this) banayan (building).

5 But the iyan (eye) of their Alahayam () was on the shabay (elders) of the Yahawadaay (Jews), and they did not batal (make) them batal (cease), id (until / as far as) the taim (matter) should hawak (come) to Darayawash (Darius), and then thawab (answer) should be returned by nashathawan (letter) il (over) it.

6 The parashagan (copy) of the agaraa (letter) that Tattenai, the pachah (governor) Ibar (beyond) the nahar (river), and Shatharabawazanay (Shetharbozenai), and his kanath (companions) the aparasakay (apharsachites), who were Ibar (beyond) the nahar (river), shalach (sent) to Darayawash (Darius) the malak (king);

7 They shalach (sent) a pathagam (letter) to him, in which was kathab (write) dan (thus): To Darayawash (Darius) the malak (king), kal (every) shalam (peace).

8 Be it known to the malak (king), that we azal (went) into the madayanah (province) of Yahawad (Judah), to the bayath (house) of the rab (great) Alahayam (), which is banaa (built) with galal (great) aban (stone), and ai (timber) is shawam (place / establish / appoint) in the kathalay (walls); and dak (this) ibayadah (work) ibad (servant) on with diligence and tzalach (prospers) in their yad (hand).

9 Then we shaal (asked) alak (those) shabay (elders), and amar (said) to them kanamaa (thus), “Who shawam (place / establish / appoint) you a decree to banaa (build) dan (this) bayath (house), and to kalal (finish) dan (this) asharanaa (wall)?”

10 We shaal (asked) them their sham (name) also, to inform you that we might kathab (write) the sham (name) of the gabaray (men) who were at their raash (head).

11 Kanamaa (thus) they thawab (returned) us pathagam (answer), amar (spoke), “We are the ibad (servant) of the Alahayam () of shamayan (heaven) and arai (earth), and are banaa (building) the bayath (house) that was banaa (built) these many shanayan (years) qadamah (ago), which a rab (great) malak (king) of Yashar-Al (Israel) banaa (built) and kalal (finished).

12 But man (from) that our ab (father) had ragaz (provoked) the Alahayam () of shamayan (heaven) to ragaz (wrath), he yahab (gave) them into the yad (hand) of Nabawakadanatzar (Nebuchadnezzar) malak (king) of Babal (Babylon), the Kasaday (Chaldean), who sathar (destroyed) dan (this) bayath (house), and galah (carried) the im (nation / people) galah (away) into Babal (Babylon).

13 But in the chad (first) shanah (year) of Kawarash (Cyrus) malak (king) of Babal (Babylon), Kawarash (Cyrus) the malak (king) shawam (place / establish / appoint) a taim (decree) to banaa (build) dan (this) bayath (house) of Alahayam ().

14 The dahab (gold) and kasap (silver) maanay (vessels) also of the bayath (house) of Alahayam (), which Nabawakadanatzar (Nebuchadnezzar) napaq (took) out of the hayakal (temple) that was in Yarawashalam (Jerusalem), and yabal (brought) into the hayakal (temple) of Babal (Babylon), hamaw (those) Kawarash (Cyrus) the malak (king) took out of the hayakal (temple) of Babal (Babylon), and they were yahab (delivered) to one whose sham (name) was Shashabatzar (Sheshbazzar), whom he had shawam (place / establish / appoint) pachah (governor);

15 And he amar (spoke) to him, ‘nashaa (lift) these maanay (vessels), azal (go), put them in the hayakal (temple) that is in Yarawashalam (Jerusalem), and let the bayath (house) of Alahayam () be banaa (built) in its athar (place).’

16 Then the same Shashabatzar (Sheshbazzar) athah (you (masc)), and yahab (laid) the ashay (foundations) of the bayath (house) of Alahayam () which is in Yarawashalam (Jerusalem): and man (from) that adayan (time) even id (until / as far as) kain (now) has it been in banaa (building), and yet it is not completed.

17 Kain (now) therefore, if it seem tab (good) to the malak (king), let a baqar (morning) be made in the malak (king) ganaz (treasure) bayath (house), which is there at Babal (Babylon), han (behold) it be so, that a taim (decree) was shawam (place / establish / appoint) of Kawarash (Cyrus) the malak (king) to banaa (build) dak (this) bayath (house) of Alahayam () at Yarawashalam (Jerusalem); and let the malak (king) shalach (send) his raiwath (pleasure) to us il (over) dan (this) matter.”
