Proverbs 20 — Novel English Bible

1 Yayan (wine) is a lawatz (mocker), and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led shagah (astray) by them is not chakam (wise).

2 The ayamah (terror) of a malak (king) is like the naham (roaring) of a kapayar (lion). He who provokes him to ibar (pass over/through) forfeits his own napash (soul).

3 It is an honor for a ayash (man / husband) to keep aloof from rayab (strife); but every awayal (fool) will be quarreling.

4 The itzal (sluggard) will not charash (plow) by reason of the charap (winter); therefore he shall shaal (beg) in qatzayar (harvest), and have nothing.

5 Itzah (counsel) in the lab (heart) of ayash (man / husband) is like imaq (deep) mayam (Waters); but a ayash (man / husband) of thabawan (understanding) will dalah (draw) it out.

6 Many adam (men) claim to be ayash (man / husband) of unfailing chasad (grace), but who can matzaa (find) a amawan (faithful) ayash (man / husband)?

7 A tzadayaq (righteous) halak (move) walks in tham (integrity). Ashar (who/that) are his ban (son) achar (other) him.

8 A malak (king) who yashab (inhabit/dwell) on the kasaa (throne) of dayan (judge) zarah (scatters) away all rai (evil) with his iyan (eye).

9 Who can amar (said), “I have made my lab (heart) pure. I am zakah (clean) and without chataah (sin)?”

10 Differing aban (stone) and differing ayapah (measures), shanayam (two) of them gam (indeed / moreover) are an thawaibah (abomination) to Yahawah ().

11 Even a nair (child) makes himself nakar (known) by his mailal (doings), whether his pail (work) is zak (pure), and whether it is yashar (upright).

12 The shamai (hearken / hear) azan (ear), and the seeing iyan (eye), Yahawah () ishah (make) made even shanayam (two) of them.

13 Don't ahab (love) shanah (sleep), lest you yarash (come) to poverty. Paqach (open) your iyan (eye), and you shall be shabai (satisfied) with lacham (bread).

14 “It's no rai (good), it's no rai (good),” amar (said) the qanah (buyer); but when he is azal (gone) his way, then he halal (praise).

15 There is zahab (gold) and rab (abundance) of panayanayam (rubies); but the shapathay (lips) of daith (knowledge) are a rare kalay (jewel).

16 Laqach (take / seize) the bagad (garment) of one who irab (evening) up collateral for a stranger; and hold him in chabal (pledge) for a wayward nakaray (woman).

17 Fraudulent lacham (food) is irab (evening) to a ayash (man / husband), but afterwards his pah (mouth) is malaa (filled) with chatzatz (gravel).

18 Plans are kawan (established) by thachabalah (advice); by wise guidance you wage malachamah (war)!

19 He who halak (move) about as a rakayal (tale-bearer) galah (reveals) sawad (secrets); therefore don't keep company with him who opens wide his shapah (lips).

20 Whoever qalal (curses) his ab (father) or his am (mother), his nayar (lamp) shall be daik (put) out in blackness of chashak (darkness).

21 An nachalah (inheritance) quickly gained at the raashawan (beginning), won't be barak (blessed) in the acharayath (end).

22 Don't amar (spoke), “I will shalam (pay) back rai (evil).” Qawah (gather/wait) for Yahawah (), and he will yashai (salvation) you.

23 Yahawah () detests differing aban (stone), and dishonest scales are not pleasing.

24 A gabar (man's) matzaiday (steps) are from Yahawah (); how then can adam (man) bayan (between) his darak (way)?

25 It is a mawaqash (snare) to a adam (man) to make a rash dedication, then later to consider his nadarayam (vows).

26 A chakam (wise) malak (king) zarah (winnows) out the rashai (wicked), and drives the threshing awapan (wheel) over them.

27 The nashamah (breathing thing) of adam (man) is Yahawah () nayar (lamp), chapash (searching) all his chadar (innermost) chadaray (parts).

28 Chasad (grace) and amath (truth) natzar (keep) the malak (king) safe. His kasaa (throne) is sustained by chasad (grace).

29 The glory of bachawar (young) men is their kach (strength / mighty / power). The splendor of zaqan (old) men is their shayabah (old age / white hair - due to age) hair.

30 Patzai (wounding) blows cleanse away rai (evil), and beatings purge the chadar (innermost) chadaray (parts).
