Ecclesiastes 7 — Novel English Bible

A good sham (name) is tawab (good / proper function) than tawab (good / proper function) perfume; and the yawam (day) of mawath (death) better than the yawam (day) of one's yalad (birth / begot).

It is tawab (good / proper function) to yalak (go) to the bayath (house) of abal (mourning) than to yalak (go) to the bayath (house) of mashathah (feasting): for that is the sawap (end) of all adam (men), and the chay (life) should nathan (give) this to lab (heart).

Kais (sorrow) is tawab (good / proper function) than shachawaq (laughter/joking matter); for by the rai (sadness) of the panayam (face) the lab (heart) is made yatab (good).

The lab (heart) of the chakam (wise) is in the bayath (house) of abal (mourning); but the lab (heart) of kasayalayam (fools) is in the bayath (house) of shamachah (mirth).

It is tawab (good / proper function) to shamai (hearken / hear) the gairah (rebuke) of the chakam (wise), than for a ayash (man / husband) to shamai (hearken / hear) the shayar (song) of kasayalayam (fools).

For as the qawal (sound / voice) of sayarayam (thorns) under a sayar (pot), so is the shachawaq (laughter/joking matter) of the kasayal (fool). This also is habal (vanity).

Surely ishaq (extortion) makes the wise chakam (man) foolish; and a bribe abad (destroy / perish) the lab (heart).

Tawab (good / proper function) is the acharayath (end) of a thing than its raashayath (beginning). The arak (patient) in rawach (spirit / wind) is tawab (good / proper function) than the gabah (proud) in rawach (spirit / wind).

Don't be hasty in your rawach (spirit / wind) to be kais (angry), for kais (anger) nawach (rests) in the chayaq (bosom) of kasayalayam (fools).

Don't amar (said), “Why were the raashawan (former) yamayam (days) tawab (good / proper function) than these?” For you do not shaal (ask) chakamah (wisely) about this.

Chakamah (wisdom) is as tawab (good / proper function) as an nachalah (inheritance). Yes, it is more excellent for those who raah (see / saw) the shamash (sun).

For chakamah (wisdom) is a defense, even as kasap (money) is a defense; but the yatharawan (excellency) of daith (knowledge) is that chakamah (wisdom) preserves the chayah (life) of him who bail (has) it.

Raah (see) the maishah (work) of Alahayam (), for who yakal (can) make that thaqan (straight), which he has made iwath (crooked)?

In the yawam (day) of tawab (good / proper function) be tawab (good / proper function), and in the yawam (day) of rai (adversity) raah (see); yes, Alahayam () ishah (make) made the imah (one) side by side with the other, to the dabarah (end) that adam (man) should not matzaa (find) out anything achar (other) him.

All this raah (see / saw) I seen in my yamay (days) of habal (vanity): there is a tzadayaq (righteous) abad (destroy / perish) who perishes in his tzadaq (righteous / just / fair), and there is a rashai (wicked) man who arak (lives) long in his evildoing.

Don't be overly tzadayaq (righteous), neither make yourself overly chakam (wise). Why should you shamam (destroy) yourself?

Don't be too rashai (wicked), neither be sakal (foolish). Why should you mawath (death) before your ith (time)?

It is tawab (good / proper function) that you should achaz (take) hold of zah (this / that / these). Yes, also from that don't yanach (withdraw) your yad (hand); for he who yaraa (fears) Alahayam () will yatzaa (go out / come out) forth from them all.

Chakamah (wisdom) is a izaz (strength) to the chakam (wise) man more than ishar (ten) shalayatayam (rulers) who are in a iyar (city).

Surely there is not a tzadayaq (righteous) adam (man) on aratz (Earth/land), who ishah (make) tawab (good / proper function) and doesn't chataa (sin).

Also don't nathan (give) lab (heart) to all dabarayam (words) that are dabar (word / matter), lest you shamai (hearken / hear) your ibad (servant) qalal (curse) you;

For often your own lab (heart) yadai (knows) that you yourself have likewise qalal (cursed) others.

All zah (this / that / these) have I nasah (proved) in chakamah (wisdom). I amar (said), “I will be chakam (wise);” but it was rachawaq (far) from me.

That which is, is rachawaq (far) off and exceedingly imaq (deep). Who can matzaa (find) it out?

I sabab (turned) around, and my lab (heart) sought to yadai (know) and to thawar (search) out, and to seek chakamah (wisdom) and the scheme of things, and to yadai (know) that rashai (wickedness) is stupidity, and that sakalawath (foolishness) is hawalalah (madness).

I matzaa (find) more mar (bitter) than mawath (death) the ayashah (woman / wife) whose lab (heart) is matzawadayam (snares) and traps, whose yad (hand) are chains. Whoever pleases Alahayam () shall malat (escape) from her; but the chataa (sinner) will be ensnared by her.

“Raah (see / saw), I matzaa (have) found this,” amar (said) the qahalath (preacher), “achad (one) to another, to matzaa (find) out the scheme;

Which my napash (soul) still baqash (seeks); but I matzaa (have) not found. Achad (one) adam (man) among a alap (thousand) matzaa (have) I found; but I matzaa (have) not found a ayashah (woman / wife) among all those.

Raah (see), this only matzaa (have) I found: that Alahayam () ishah (make) adam (man) yashar (upright); but they search for many schemes.”
