1 I, Nabawakadanaatzar (Nebuchadnezzar), was at rest in my house, and flourishing in my palace.
2 I saw a dream which made me afraid; and the thoughts on my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.
3 Therefore yadai (made) I a decree to bring in kal (every) the wise men of Babal (Babylon) before me, that they might yadai (make) known to me the pashar (interpretation) of the dream.
4 Then hawaa (which/who/that is) in the magicians, the enchanters, the Kashaday (Chaldeans), and the soothsayers; and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known to me its interpretation.
5 But at the last Danayaal (Daniel) came in before me, whose name was Balatashaatzar (Belteshazzar), according to the name of my Alahayam (), and in whom is the spirit of the holy Alahayam (): and I told the dream before him, saying,
6 “Balatashaatzar (Belteshazzar), master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy Alahayam () is in you, and no secret troubles you, tell me the visions of my dream that I talal (have) seen, and its interpretation.
7 Thus were the chazaway (visions) of my raash (head) on my mashakab (bed): I hawaa (which/who/that is), and alaw (behold), a tree in the midst of the earth; and its height was great.
8 The ayalan (tree) grew, and was strong, and its height reached to the sky, and its sight to the end of all the earth.
9 The shabaqaw (leaves) of it were beautiful, and its fruit much, and in it was food for all: the animals of the bar (field) had shadow under it, and the birds of the sky lived in its branches, and all flesh was fed from it.
10 “I saw in the visions of my head on my bed, and behold, a watcher and a holy one came down from the sky.
11 He cried aloud, and said thus, ‘Cut down the tree, and cut off its branches, shake off its leaves, and scatter its fruit: let the animals get away from under it, and the fowls from its branches.
12 Nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of the sky: and let his portion be with the animals in the grass of the earth:
13 Let his heart be changed from man's, and let an animal's heart be given to him; and let seven adayan (times) pass over him.
14 “‘The sentence is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones; to the intent that the living may know that the Ilayawan () rules in the kingdom of rabah (men), and gives it to whomever he will, and sets up over it the lowest of rabah (men).’
15 “This dream I, king Nabawakadanaatzar (Nebuchadnezzar), shakan (place) seen; and you, Balatashaatzar (Belteshazzar), declare the interpretation, because kal (every) the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known to me the interpretation; but you are able; for the spirit of the holy Alahayam () is in you.”
16 Then Danayaal (Daniel), whose name was Balatashaatzar (Belteshazzar), was stricken mute for a while, and his thoughts troubled him. The malak (king) answered, “Balatashaatzar (Belteshazzar), don't let the dream, or the interpretation, trouble you.” Balatashaatzar (Belteshazzar) answered, “My Adawan (), the dream be to those who hate you, and its interpretation to your adversaries.
17 The ayalan (tree) that you chazaa (saw), which grew, and was strong, whose height reached to the sky, and its sight to all the arai (earth);
18 Whose leaves were beautiful, and its fruit much, and in it was food for all; under which the animals of the field lived, and on whose branches the birds of the sky had their habitation:
19 It is you, O king, that are grown and hawaa (which/who/that is) strong; for your greatness is grown, and reaches to the sky, and your dominion to the end of the earth.
20 “Whereas the king saw a watcher and a holy one coming down from the sky, and amar (said), ‘Cut down the ayalan (tree), and destroy it; nevertheless shabaq (leave) the iqar (stump) of its sharash (roots) in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field, and let it be wet with the dew of the sky: and let his portion be with the animals of the field, day (until) seven times pass over him;
21 “This is the interpretation, O malak (king), and it is the decree of the Ilayawan (), which has hawaa (which/who/that is) on my Adawan () the malak (king):
22 That you shall be driven from men, and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field, and you shall be made to eat grass as oxen, and shall be wet with the dew of the sky, and seven times shall pass over you; until you know that the Ilayawan () rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will.
23 Whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the roots of the tree; your malakaw (kingdom) shall be sure to you, after that you shall have known that the heavens do rule.
24 Day (therefore), O malak (king), let my counsel be acceptable to you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if there may be a lengthening of your tranquility.”
25 All this came on the malak (king) Nabawakadanatzar (Nebuchadnezzar).
26 At the end of twelve months he was walking in the royal palace of Babal (Babylon).
27 The king spoke and said, “Is not this rabah (great) Babal (Babylon), which I have built for the royal dwelling place, by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?”
28 While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from the sky, saying, “O king Nabawakadanatzar (Nebuchadnezzar), to you it is spoken: ‘The malakaw (kingdom) has departed from you:
29 And you shall be driven from men; and your dawar (dwelling) shall be with the animals of the field; you shall be ibad (servant) to eat grass as oxen; and seven times shall pass over you; day (until) you know that the Ilayawan () rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he tzabaa (troop).’”
30 The same hour was the thing fulfilled on Nabawakadanaatzar (Nebuchadnezzar): and he was driven from men, and ate grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of the sky, until his hair was grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws.
31 At the end of the days I, Nabawakadanatzar (Nebuchadnezzar), lifted up my eyes to shamayan (heaven), and my understanding returned to me, and I blessed the Ilayawan (), and I shabach (praised) and honored him who lives forever; for his dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom from generation to generation.
32 Kal (every) the inhabitants of the arai (earth) are chashab (reputed) as laa (NOT); and he ibad (servant) according to his tzabaa (troop) in the chayal (army) of shamayan (heaven), and among the inhabitants of the arai (earth); and none ayathay (can) machaa (stay) his yad (hand), or ask him, “mah (what) are you ibad (servant)?”
33 At the same zaman (time) my manadai (understanding) thawab (returned) to me; and for the glory of my malakaw (kingdom), my hadar (majesty) and zayaw (brightness) thawab (returned) to me; and my counselors and my rabaraban (lords) baia (sought) to me; and I was thaqan (established) in my malakaw (kingdom), and yathayar (excellent) rabaw (greatness) was yasap (added) to me.
34 Kain (now) I, Nabawakadanatzar (Nebuchadnezzar), shabach (praise) and rawam (will lift up) and honor the malak (king) of shamayan (heaven); for kal (every) his maibad (works) are qashawat (truth), and his arach (ways) dayan (judge); and those who halak (move) in gawah (pride) he is yakal (able) to shapal (abase).
35 And you shall be driven from men; and your dawar (dwelling) shall be with the animals of the field; you shall be ibad (servant) to eat grass as oxen; and seven times shall pass over you; day (until) you know that the Ilayawan () rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he tzabaa (troop).
36 The same hour was the thing fulfilled on Nabawakadanaatzar (Nebuchadnezzar): and he was driven from men, and ate grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of the sky, until his hair was grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.
