Leviticus 16 — Novel English Bible

1 Yahawah () dabar (word / matter) to Mashah (Moses), achar (other) the mawath (death) of the shanayam (two) banay (sons) of Aharawan (Aaron), when they qarab (come close) near panayam (face) Yahawah (), and mawath (death);

2 And Yahawah () amar (spoke) to Mashah (Moses), “dabar (word / matter) Aharawan (Aaron) your ach (brother/kinsman), not to bawaa (come) at all ith (times) into the Most qadash (set apart / make holy) bayath (house) within the parakath (veil), panayam (face) the kaparath (mercy) seat which is on the arawan (ark); lest he mawath (death): for I will raah (see) in the inan (cloud) on the kaparath (mercy) seat.

3 “Herewith shall Aharawan (Aaron) bawaa (bring) into the qadash (set apart / make holy): with a ban (son) par (bull) for a chataah (sin) offering, and a ayal (ram) for a burnt chataah (sin).

4 He shall labash (put) on the qadash (set apart / make holy) bad (linen) kathanath (coat), and he shall have the bad (linen) breeches on his bashar (flesh), and shall chagar (put) on the bad (linen) sash, and he shall be clothed with the bad (linen) turban. They are the qadash (set apart / make holy) bagaday (garments). He shall rachatz (bathe) his bashar (flesh) in mayam (Waters), and labash (put) them on.

5 He shall laqach (take / seize) from the idah (congregation) of the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel) shanayam (two) male izayam (goats) for a chataah (sin) offering, and achad (one) ayal (ram) for a burnt chataah (sin).

6 “Aharawan (Aaron) shall qarab (come close) the par (bull) of the chataah (sin) offering, which is for himself, and make kapar (atonement) for himself and for his bayath (house).

7 He shall laqach (take / seize) the shanayam (two) shaiyaram (goats), and imad (set) them panayam (face) Yahawah () at the pathach (door) of the ahal (tent) of Meeting.

8 Aharawan (Aaron) shall nathan (give) gawaralawath (lots) for the shanayam (two) shaiyaram (goats); achad (one) gawaral (lot) for Yahawah (), and the other gawaral (lot) for the Izaazal (scapegoat).

9 Aharawan (Aaron) shall qarab (come close) the shaiyar (goat) on which the gawaral (lot) ilah (go up / offer) for Yahawah (), and ishah (make) him for a chataah (sin) offering.

10 But the shaiyar (goat), on which the gawaral (lot) ilah (go up / offer) for the Izaazal (scapegoat), shall be imad (presented) chay (life) panayam (face) Yahawah (), to make kapar (atonement) for him, to shalach (send) him away for the Izaazal (scapegoat) into the madabar (wilderness).

11 “Aharawan (Aaron) shall qarab (come close) the par (bull) of the chataah (sin) offering, which is for himself, and shall make kapar (atonement) for himself and for his bayath (house), and shall shachat (kill) the par (bull) of the chataah (sin) offering which is for himself.

12 He shall laqach (take / seize) a machathah (censer) malaa (full) of gachalay (coals) of ash (fire) from off the mazabach (altar) panayam (face) Yahawah (), and chapan (two) handfuls of sam (sweet) qatarath (incense) beaten daq (small), and bawaa (come) it bayath (house) the parakath (veil):

13 And he shall nathan (give) the qatarath (incense) on the ash (fire) panayam (face) Yahawah (), that the inan (cloud) of the qatarath (incense) may kasah (cover) the kaparath (mercy) seat that is on the idawath (testimony), so that he will not mawath (death).

14 He shall laqach (take / seize) some of the dam (blood) of the par (bull), and nazah (sprinkle) it with his atzabai (finger) on the kaparath (mercy) seat on the qadam (east); and panayam (face) the kaparath (mercy) seat he shall nazah (sprinkle) some of the dam (blood) with his atzabai (finger) shabai (seven) paimayam (times).

15 “Then he shall shachat (kill) the shaiyar (goat) of the chataah (sin) offering, that is for the im (nation / people), and bawaa (bring) his dam (blood) bayath (house) the parakath (veil), and ishah (make) with his dam (blood) as he ishah (make) with the dam (blood) of the par (bull), and nazah (sprinkle) it on the kaparath (mercy) seat, and panayam (face) the kaparath (mercy) seat:

16 And he shall make kapar (atonement) for the qadash (set apart / make holy) Place, because of the tamaah (uncleanness) of the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel), and because of their pashai (transgressions), even all their chataah (sin); and so he shall ishah (make) for the ahal (tent) of Meeting, that shakan (place) with them in the thawak (midst) of their tamaah (uncleanness).

17 No adam (one) shall be in the ahal (tent) of Meeting when he bawaa (bring) to make kapar (atonement) in the qadash (set apart / make holy) Place, until he yatzaa (go out / come out) out, and has made kapar (atonement) for himself and for his bayath (house), and for all the qahal (assembly) of Yashar-Al (Israel).

18 “He shall yatzaa (go out / come out) out to the mazabach (altar) that is panayam (face) Yahawah () and make kapar (atonement) for it, and shall laqach (take / seize) some of the par (bull's) dam (blood), and some of the shaiyar (goat's) dam (blood), and nathan (give) it around on the qaranawath (horns) of the mazabach (altar).

19 He shall nazah (sprinkle) some of the dam (blood) on it with his atzabai (finger) shabai (seven) paimayam (times), and tahar (cleanse) it, and make it qadash (set apart / make holy) from the tamaah (uncleanness) of the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel).

20 “When he kalah (complete / finish) made an end of atoning for the qadash (set apart / make holy) Place, the ahal (tent) of Meeting, and the mazabach (altar), he shall qarab (come close) the chay (life) shaiyar (goat).

21 Aharawan (Aaron) shall samak (lay) shanayam (two) his yad (hand) on the raash (head) of the chay (life) shaiyar (goat), and yadah (confess) over him all the iwanath (iniquities) of the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel), and all their pashai (transgressions), even all their chataah (sin); and he shall nathan (give) them on the raash (head) of the shaiyar (goat), and shall shalach (send) him away into the madabar (wilderness) by the yad (hand) of a ayash (man / husband) who is in readiness.

22 The shaiyar (goat) shall nashaa (lift) all their iwan (guilt/iniquity) on himself to a solitary aratz (Earth/land), and he shall let the shaiyar (goat) shalach (send) in the madabar (wilderness).

23 “Aharawan (Aaron) shall bawaa (bring) into the ahal (tent) of Meeting, and shall take off the bad (linen) bagaday (garments), which he labash (put) on when he bawaa (bring) into the qadash (set apart / make holy) yanach (place), and shall leave them there.

24 Then he shall rachatz (bathe) himself in mayam (Waters) in a qadawash (holy) maqawam (place), and labash (put) on his bagad (garments), and yatzaa (go out / come out) out and ishah (make) his burnt ilah (offering) and the burnt ilah (offering) of the im (nation / people), and make kapar (atonement) for himself and for the im (nation / people).

25 The chalab (fat) of the chataah (sin) offering he shall qatar (burn) on the mazabach (altar).

26 “He who lets the shaiyar (goat) shalach (send) for the Izaazal (scapegoat) shall kabas (wash) his clothes, and bathe his bashar (flesh) in mayam (Waters), and afterward he shall bawaa (bring) into the machanah (camp).

27 The par (bull) for the chataah (sin) offering, and the shaiyar (goat) for the chataah (sin) offering, whose dam (blood) was bawaa (bring) in to make kapar (atonement) in the qadash (set apart / make holy) Place, shall be yatzaa (go out / come out) forth outside the machanah (camp); and they shall sharap (burn) their iwar (skins), their bashar (flesh), and their parash (dung) with ash (fire).

28 He who sharap (burns) them shall kabas (wash) his clothes, and bathe his bashar (flesh) in mayam (Waters), and afterward he shall bawaa (bring) into the machanah (camp).

29 “It shall be a chaqah (statute) to you iwalam (eternity): in the shabayaiy (seventh) chadash (month), on the ishawar (tenth) day of the chadash (month), you shall inah (answer / respond) your napash (soul), and shall ishah (make) no kind of malaakah (work), the native-born, or the gar (sojourner / stranger / foreigner) who lives as a foreigner thawak (midst) you:

30 For on this yawam (day) shall kapar (atonement) be tahar (made) for you, to cleanse you; from all your chataah (sin) you shall be tahar (clean) panayam (face) Yahawah ().

31 It is a shabath (shabath / rest) of solemn shabathawan (rest) to you, and you shall inah (answer / respond) your napash (soul); it is a chaqah (statute) iwalam (eternity).

32 The kahan (priest), who is mashach (anointed) and who is malaa (consecrated) to be kahan (priest) in his ab (father) place, shall make the kapar (atonement), and shall labash (put) on the bad (linen) bagaday (garments), even the qadash (set apart / make holy) bagaday (garments).

33 Then he shall make kapar (atonement) for the qadash (set apart / make holy) maqadash (sanctuary); and he shall make kapar (atonement) for the ahal (tent) of Meeting and for the mazabach (altar); and he shall make kapar (atonement) for the kahanayam (priests) and for all the im (nation / people) of the qahal (assembly).

34 “This shall be an iwalam (forever) chaqah (statute) for you, to make kapar (atonement) for the banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel) achad (one) in the shanah (year) because of all their chataah (sin).” It was ishah (make) as Yahawah () tzawah (commanded) Mashah (Moses).
