Amos 7 — Novel English Bible

Thus the Adanay () Yahawah () showed me: and behold, he yatzar (formed) locusts in the thachalah (beginning) of the ilah (go up / offer) up of the laqash (latter) growth; and behold, it was the laqash (latter) growth achar (other) the malak (king) harvest.

It happened that, when they kalah (complete / finish) an end of akal (eat) the ishab (grass) of the aratz (Earth/land), then I amar (spoke), “Adanay () Yahawah (), salach (forgive/pardon/make clean), I beg you! How could Yaiqab (Jacob) qawam (rise up)? For he is qatan (small / young / least).”

Yahawah () relented concerning this. “It shall not be,” amar (spoke) Yahawah ().

Thus the Adanay () Yahawah () showed me and behold, the Adanay () Yahawah () qaraa (called) for rayab (judgment) by ash (fire); and it dried up the rab (great) thahawam (depths), and would have akal (eat) the chalaq (land).

Then I amar (spoke), “Adanay () Yahawah (), stop, I beg you! How could Yaiqab (Jacob) qawam (rise up)? For he is qatan (small / young / least).”

Yahawah () relented concerning this. “This also shall not be,” amar (spoke) the Adanay () Yahawah ().

Thus he showed me and behold, the Adanay () natzab (stood) beside a chawamah (wall) made by a anak (plumb) line, with a anak (plumb) line in his yad (hand).

Yahawah () amar (spoke) to me, “Imawas (Amos), what do you raah (see)?” I amar (spoke), “A anak (plumb) line.” Then the Adanay () amar (spoke), “Behold, I will shawam (place / establish / appoint) a anak (plumb) line in the qarab (among / near) of my im (nation / people) Yashar-Al (Israel). I will not again ibar (pass over/through) by them any more.

The bamah (high) places of Yashachaq (Isaac) will be shamam (desolate), the maqadashay (sanctuaries) of Yashar-Al (Israel) will be charab (laid) waste; and I will qawam (rise up) against the bayath (house) of Yarabaim (Jeroboam) with the charab (sword).”

Then Amatzayah (Amaziah) the kahan (priest) of Bayath-Al (Bethel) shalach (send) to Yarabaim (Jeroboam) malak (king) of Yashar-Al (Israel), amar (said), “Imawas (Amos) has qashar (conspired) against you in the qarab (among / near) of the bayath (house) of Yashar-Al (Israel). The aratz (Earth/land) is not yakal (able) to kawal (all) all his dabar (word / matter).

For Imawas (Amos) amar (said), ‘Yarabaim (Jeroboam) will mawath (death) by the charab (sword), and Yashar-Al (Israel) shall galah (surely) be galah (led) away captive out of his adamah (land).’”

Amatzayah (Amaziah) also amar (said) to Imawas (Amos), “You chazah (seer), yalak (go), barach (flee) away into the aratz (Earth/land) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah), and there akal (eat) lacham (bread), and nabaa (prophesy) there:

But don't nabaa (prophesy) again any more at Bayath-Al (Bethel); for it is the malak (king) maqadash (sanctuary), and it is a mamalakah (royal) bayath (house)!”

Then Imawas (Amos) inah (answer / respond) Amatzayah (Amaziah), “I was no nabayaa (prophet/prophecy), neither was I a nabayaa (prophet/prophecy) ban (son); but I was a herdsman, and a farmer of shaqamah (sycamore) figs;

And Yahawah () laqach (take / seize) me from achar (other) the tzaan (flock), and Yahawah () amar (spoke) to me, ‘yalak (go), nabaa (prophesy) to my im (nation / people) Yashar-Al (Israel).’

Now therefore shamai (hearken / hear) to the dabar (word / matter) of Yahawah (): ‘You amar (spoke), Don't nabaa (prophesy) against Yashar-Al (Israel), and don't preach against the bayath (house) of Yashachaq (Isaac).’

Therefore thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (): ‘Your ayashah (woman / wife) shall be a prostitute in the iyar (city), and your ban (son) and your banath (daughter) shall napal (fall / be cast down) by the charab (sword), and your adamah (land) shall be chalaq (divided) by chabal (line); and you yourself shall mawath (death) in a adamah (land) that is tamaa (unclean), and Yashar-Al (Israel) shall galah (surely) be galah (led) away captive out of his adamah (land).’”
