Deuteronomy 17 — Novel English Bible

1 You shall not zabach (sacrifice) to Yahawah () your Alahayam () an shawar (ox), or a shah (sheep), in which is a maawam (blemish), or anything rai (evil); for that is an thawaibah (abomination) to Yahawah () your Alahayam ().

2 If there is matzaa (found) in the qarab (among / near) of you, within any of your shair (gates) which Yahawah () your Alahayam () nathan (give) you, ayash (man / husband) or ayashah (woman / wife), who ishah (make) that which is rai (evil) in the iyan (eye) of Yahawah () your Alahayam (), in ibar (pass over/through) his barayath (covenant),

3 And has yalak (gone) and ibad (servant) other Alahayam (), and shachah (worshiped) them, or the shamash (sun), or the yarach (moon), or any of the tzabaa (troop) of the sky, which I have not tzawah (commanded);

4 And it be nagad (told) you, and you have shamai (hearken / hear) of it, then you shall darash (inquire) yatab (diligently); and behold, if it be amath (truth), and the thing kawan (certain), that such thawaibah (abomination) is ishah (make) in Yashar-Al (Israel),

5 Then you shall yatzaa (go out / come out) forth that ayash (man / husband) or that ayashah (woman / wife), who ishah (make) done this rai (evil) thing, to your shair (gates), even the ayash (man / husband) or the ayashah (woman / wife); and you shall saqal (stone) them to mawath (death) with saqal (stones).

6 At the pah (mouth) of shanayam (two) witnesses, or shalawash (three) witnesses, shall he who is to mawath (death) be put to mawath (death); at the pah (mouth) of achad (one) id (until / as far as) he shall not be put to mawath (death).

7 The yad (hand) of the witnesses shall be raashawan (first) on him to put him to mawath (death), and acharawan (afterward) the yad (hand) of all the im (nation / people). So you shall bair (put) bair (away) the rai (evil) from the qarab (among / near) of you.

8 If there arises a dabar (word / matter) palaa (be wonderful / extraordinary / marvelous) hard for you in mashapat (judgment), between dam (blood) and dam (blood), between dayan (judge) and dayan (judge), and between nagai (stroke) and nagai (stroke), being dabaray (matters) of rayab (controversy) within your shair (gates); then you shall qawam (rise up), and ilah (go up / offer) up to the maqawam (place) which Yahawah () your Alahayam () shall bachar (choose);

9 And you shall bawaa (bring) to the kahanayam (priests) the Lawayay (Levites), and to the shapat (judge / judgement) who shall be in those yamayam (days): and you shall darash (inquire); and they shall show you the dabar (word / matter) of mashapat (judgment).

10 You shall ishah (make) pah (according) to the tenor of the sentence which they shall show you from that maqawam (place) which Yahawah () shall bachar (choose); and you shall shamar (keep/guard) to ishah (make) according to all that they shall yarah (teach) you:

11 Pah (according) to the tenor of the thawarah (Torah / Instruction) which they shall yarah (teach) you, and according to the mashapat (judgment) which they shall amar (said) you, you shall ishah (make); you shall not sawar (turn) aside from the dabar (word / matter) which they shall show you, to the right yamayan (right hand), nor to the shamaawal (left hand).

12 The ayash (man / husband) who ishah (make) zadawan (presumptuously), in not shamai (hearken / hear) to the kahan (priest) who imad (stands) to sharath (minister) there before Yahawah () your Alahayam (), or to the shapat (judge / judgement), even that ayash (man / husband) shall mawath (death): and you shall bair (put) away the rai (evil) from Yashar-Al (Israel).

13 All the im (nation / people) shall shamai (hearken / hear), and yaraa (fear / be afraid), and do no more zawad (presumptuously).

14 When you bawaa (come) come to the aratz (Earth/land) which Yahawah () your Alahayam () nathan (give) you, and shall yarash (possess) it, and shall yashab (inhabit/dwell) therein, and shall amar (spoke), “I will shawam (place / establish / appoint) a malak (king) over me, like all the gawayam (nations) that are around me;”

15 You shall surely shawam (place / establish / appoint) him malak (king) over yourselves, whom Yahawah () your Alahayam () shall bachar (choose): one from qarab (among / near) your ach (brother/kinsman) you shall shawam (place / establish / appoint) malak (king) over you; you may not nathan (give) a nakaray (foreigner) over you, who is not your ach (brother/kinsman).

16 Only he shall not rabah (multiply) sawasayam (horses) to himself, nor cause the im (nation / people) to shawab (turn back / repent) to Matzarayam (Egypt), to the end that he may rabah (multiply) sawasayam (horses); because Yahawah () has amar (spoke) to you, “You shall not shawab (turn back / repent) back that darak (way) again.”

17 Neither shall he rabah (multiply) wives to himself, that his labab (heart) not sawar (turn) away: neither shall he maad (greatly) rabah (multiply) to himself kasap (silver) and zahab (gold).

18 It shall be, when he yashab (inhabit/dwell) on the kasaa (throne) of his mamalakah (kingdom), that he shall kathab (write) him a mashanah (copy) of this thawarah (Torah / Instruction) in a sapar (book / scribed document), out of that which is panayam (face) the kahanayam (priests) the Lawayay (Levites):

19 And it shall be with him, and he shall qaraa (called) therein all the yamay (days) of his chay (life); that he may lamad (teach / instruct) to yaraa (fear / be afraid) Yahawah () his Alahayam (), to shamar (keep/guard) all the dabaray (words) of this thawarah (instruction) and these chaqayam (statutes), to ishah (make) them;

20 That his labab (heart) not be rawam (will lift up) up above his ach (brother/kinsman), and that he not sawar (turn) aside from the matzawah (commandment), to the right yamayan (right hand), or to the shamaawal (left hand): to the end that he may prolong his yamayam (days) in his mamalakah (kingdom), he and his ban (son), in the qarab (among / near) of Yashar-Al (Israel).
