Joshua 18 — Novel English Bible

1 The whole idah (congregation) of the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel) qahal (assembled) themselves together at Shayalah (Shiloh), and shakan (place) up the ahal (tent) of Meeting there. The aratz (Earth/land) was kabash (subdued) panayam (face) them.

2 Shabai (seven) shabatayam (tribes) yathar (remained) among the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel), which chalaq (had) not yet divided their nachalah (inheritance).

3 Yahawashawai (Joshua) amar (spoke) to the banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel), “How long will you neglect to bawaa (come) in to yarash (possess) the aratz (Earth/land), which Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of your ab (father), nathan (give) given you?

4 Appoint for yourselves shalawash (three) anashayam (men) from each shabat (tribe). I will shalach (send) them, and they shall qawam (rise up), halak (move) through the aratz (Earth/land), and kathab (write) it pah (according) to their nachalah (inheritance); and they shall bawaa (bring) to me.

5 They shall chalaq (divide) it into shabai (seven) chalaqayam (portions). Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) shall live in his gabawal (border/boundary) on the nagab (south), and the bayath (house) of Yawasap (Joseph) shall live in their gabawal (border/boundary) on the tzapawan (north).

6 You shall survey the aratz (Earth/land) into shabai (seven) chalaqayam (parts), and bawaa (come) the description here to me; and I will yarah (cast) gawaral (lots) for you here panayam (face) Yahawah () our Alahayam ().

7 For the Lawayay (Levites) have no chalaq (portion) qarab (among / near) you; for the kahanah (priesthood) of Yahawah () is their nachalah (inheritance). Gad (Gad), Raawaban (Reuben), and the half-tribe of Manashah (Manasseh) have laqach (take / seize) their nachalah (inheritance) ibar (beyond) the Yaradan (Jordan) eastward, which Mashah (Moses) the ibad (servant) of Yahawah () nathan (give) them.”

8 The anashayam (men) qawam (rise up) and yalak (went). Yahawashawai (Joshua) tzawah (commanded) those who halak (move) to survey the aratz (Earth/land), amar (spoke), “yalak (go) halak (move) through the aratz (Earth/land), survey it, and shawab (turn back / repent) again to me. I will shalak (cast) gawaral (lots) for you here panayam (face) Yahawah () in Shayalah (Shiloh).”

9 The anashayam (men) yalak (went) and ibar (pass over/through) through the aratz (Earth/land), and surveyed it by irayam (cities) into shabai (seven) chalaqayam (portions) in a sapar (book / scribed document). They bawaa (bring) to Yahawashawai (Joshua) to the machanah (camp) at Shayalah (Shiloh).

10 Yahawashawai (Joshua) shalak (cast) gawaral (lots) for them in Shayalah (Shiloh) panayam (face) Yahawah (). There Yahawashawai (Joshua) chalaq (divided) the aratz (Earth/land) to the banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel) according to their machalaqath (divisions).

11 The gawaral (lot) of the matah (staff / rod / tribe) of the banay (my son) of Banayamayan (Benjamin) ilah (go up / offer) up according to their mashapachah (tribe / clan / family). The gabawal (border/boundary) of their gawaral (lot) yatzaa (go out / come out) out between the banay (my son) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) and the banay (my son) of Yawasap (Joseph).

12 Their gabawal (border/boundary) on the tzapawan (north) paah (quarter) was from the Yaradan (Jordan). The gabawal (border/boundary) ilah (go up / offer) up to the kathap (side) of Yarayachaw (Jericho) on the tzapawan (north), and ilah (go up / offer) up through the har (mountain) country westward. It ended at the madabar (wilderness) of Bayathaawan (Beth Aven).

13 The gabawal (border/boundary) ibar (pass over/through) along from there to Lawaz (Luz), to the kathap (side) of Lawaz (Luz) (the same is Bayath-Al (Bethel)), southward. The gabawal (border/boundary) yarad (went) down to Itarawathaadar (Ataroth Addar), by the har (mountain) that lies on the nagab (south) of Bayathachawarawan (Beth Horon) the thachathawan (lower).

14 The gabawal (border/boundary) extended, and sabab (turned) around on the yam (sea/waters) paah (quarter) southward, from the har (mountain) that lies panayam (face) Bayathachawarawan (Beth Horon) southward; and ended at Qarayathabail (Kiriath Baal) (the same is Kiriath Qarayath-Yairayam (Jearim)), a iyar (city) of the banay (my son) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah). This was the yam (sea/waters) paah (quarter).

15 The nagab (south) paah (quarter) was from the farthest part of Kiriath Qarayath-Yairayam (Jearim). The gabawal (border/boundary) yatzaa (go out / come out) out westward, and yatzaa (go out / come out) out to the maiyan (spring) of the may (waters) of Napathawach (Nephtoah).

16 The gabawal (border/boundary) yarad (went) down to the farthest part of the har (mountain) that lies panayam (face) the gayaa (valley) of the ban (son) of Hanam (Hinnom), which is in the imaq (valley) of Rapaa (Rephaim) northward. It yarad (went) down to the gayaa (valley) of Hanam (Hinnom), to the kathap (side) of the Yabawasay (Jebusite) southward, and yarad (went) down to Iyanaragal (En Rogel).

17 It extended northward, yatzaa (go out / come out) out at Iyanashamash (En Shemesh), and yatzaa (go out / come out) out to Galayalawath (Geliloth), which is over nakach (against) the mailah (ascent) of Adamayam (Adummim). It yarad (went) down to the aban (stone) of Bahan (Bohan) the ban (son) of Raawaban (Reuben).

18 It ibar (pass over/through) along to the kathap (side) over mawal (against) the irabah (arabah) northward, and yarad (went) down to the irabah (arabah).

19 The gabawal (border/boundary) ibar (pass over/through) along to the kathap (side) of Bayathachagalah (Beth Hoglah) northward; and the gabawal (border/boundary) ended at the tzapawan (north) lashawan (tongue / language) of the malach (salt) yam (sea/waters), at the nagab (south) qatzah (end / extremity / border) of the Yaradan (Jordan). This was the nagab (south) gabawal (border/boundary).

20 The Yaradan (Jordan) was its gabal (border) on the qadam (east) paah (quarter). This was the nachalah (inheritance) of the banay (my son) of Banayamayan (Benjamin), by the gabawalah (borders) around it, according to their mashapachah (tribe / clan / family).

21 Now the irayam (cities) of the matah (staff / rod / tribe) of the banay (my son) of Banayamayan (Benjamin) according to their mashapachah (tribe / clan / family) were Yarayachaw (Jericho), Bayathachagalah (Beth Hoglah), Emek Qatzayatz (Keziz),

22 Bayathahairabah (Beth Arabah), Tzamarayam (Zemaraim), Bayath-Al (Bethel),

23 Iwayam (Avvim), Parah (bear fruit / increase), Iparah (Ophrah),

24 Kaparahaimawanay (Chephar Ammoni), Ipanay (Ophni), and Gabai (Geba); shanayam (two) irayam (cities) with their chatzar (villages).

25 Gabaiwan (Gibeon), Ramah (Ramah), Baarawath (Beeroth),

26 Matzapah (Mizpeh), Kapayarah (Chephirah), Matzah (Mozah),

27 Raqam (Rekem), Yarapaal (Irpeel), Tharaalah (Taralah),

28 Tzalai (Zelah), Alap (Eleph), the Yabawasay (Jebusite) (the same is Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem)), Gabaith (Gibeath), and Qarayath-Yairayam (Kiriath); fourteen irayam (cities) with their chatzar (villages). This is the nachalah (inheritance) of the banay (my son) of Banayamayan (Benjamin) according to their mashapachah (tribe / clan / family).
