Judges 11 — Novel English Bible

Now Yapathach (Jephthah) the Galaiday (Gileadite) was a gabawar (mighty) man of valor, and he was the ban (son) of a prostitute: and Galaid (Gilead) became the yalad (birth / begot) of Yapathach (Jephthah).

Galaid (Gilead's) ayashah (woman / wife) yalad (birth / begot) him banayam (sons); and when his ayashah (woman / wife) banayam (sons) gadal (grew) up, they garash (drove) out Yapathach (Jephthah), and amar (said) to him, “You shall not nachal (inherit) in our ab (father) bayath (house); for you are the ban (son) of achar (other) ayashah (woman / wife).”

Then Yapathach (Jephthah) barach (fled) from his ach (brother/kinsman), and lived in the aratz (Earth/land) of Tawab (good / proper function): and there were laqat (gathered) rayaq (vain) anashayam (fellows) to Yapathach (Jephthah), and they yatzaa (go out / come out) out with him.

It happened after a yawam (day), that the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon) made lacham (war) against Yashar-Al (Israel).

It was so, that when the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon) made lacham (war) against Yashar-Al (Israel), the zaqanay (elders) of Galaid (Gilead) yalak (went) to laqach (take / seize) Yapathach (Jephthah) out of the aratz (Earth/land) of Tawab (good / proper function);

And they amar (said) to Yapathach (Jephthah), “yalak (come) and be our chief, that we may lacham (fight) with the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon).”

Yapathach (Jephthah) amar (said) to the zaqanay (elders) of Galaid (Gilead), “Didn't you shanaa (hate) me, and garash (drive) me out of my ab (father) bayath (house)? Why bawaa (bring) you come to me now when you are in tzar (oppressor / distressor)?”

The zaqanay (elders) of Galaid (Gilead) amar (said) to Yapathach (Jephthah), “Therefore we have shawab (turn) again to you now, that you may halak (move) with us, and lacham (fight) with the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon); and you shall be our raash (head) over all the yashabay (inhabitants) of Galaid (Gilead).”

Yapathach (Jephthah) amar (spoke) to the zaqanay (elders) of Galaid (Gilead), “If you shawab (turn back / repent) me home again to lacham (fight) with the banay (children) of Imawan (Ammon), and Yahawah () nathan (give) them panayam (face) me, shall I be your raash (head)?”

The zaqanay (elders) of Galaid (Gilead) amar (spoke) to Yapathach (Jephthah), “Yahawah () shall be shamai (hearken / hear) between us; surely according to your dabar (word / matter) so will we ishah (make).”

Then Yapathach (Jephthah) yalak (went) with the zaqanay (elders) of Galaid (Gilead), and the im (nation / people) shawam (place / establish / appoint) him raash (head) and chief over them: and Yapathach (Jephthah) dabar (word / matter) all his dabar (word / matter) panayam (face) Yahawah () in Matzapah (Mizpah).

Yapathach (Jephthah) shalach (send) malaakayam (messengers) to the malak (king) of the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon), amar (said), “What bawaa (bring) you to do with me, that you have come to me to lacham (fight) against my aratz (Earth/land)?”

The malak (king) of the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon) amar (said) to the malaakay (messengers) of Yapathach (Jephthah), “Because Yashar-Al (Israel) laqach (take / seize) away my aratz (Earth/land), when he ilah (go up / offer) up out of Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt), from the Aranawan (Arnon) even to the Yabaq (Jabbok), and to the Yaradan (Jordan): now therefore shawab (turn) that territory again peaceably.”

Yapathach (Jephthah) shalach (send) malaakayam (messengers) again to the malak (king) of the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon);

And he amar (said) to him, “Thus amar (said) Yapathach (Jephthah): Yashar-Al (Israel) didn't laqach (take / seize) away the aratz (Earth/land) of Mawaab (Moab), nor the aratz (Earth/land) of the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon),

But when they ilah (go up / offer) up from Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt), and Yashar-Al (Israel) yalak (went) through the madabar (wilderness) to the sawap (red) yam (sea/waters), and bawaa (bring) to Qadash (set apart / make holy);

Then Yashar-Al (Israel) shalach (send) malaakayam (messengers) to the malak (king) of Adawam (Edom), amar (said), ‘Please let me ibar (pass over/through) through your aratz (Earth/land);’ but the malak (king) of Adawam (Edom) didn't shamai (hearken / hear). In the same way, he shalach (send) to the malak (king) of Mawaab (Moab); but he would not: and Yashar-Al (Israel) stayed in Qadash (set apart / make holy).

Then they yalak (went) through the madabar (wilderness), and sabab (went) around the aratz (Earth/land) of Adawam (Edom), and the aratz (Earth/land) of Mawaab (Moab), and bawaa (bring) by the mazarach (east) side of the aratz (Earth/land) of Mawaab (Moab), and they chanah (encamped) on the other ibar (side) of the Aranawan (Arnon); but they didn't bawaa (bring) within the gabawal (border/boundary) of Mawaab (Moab), for the Aranawan (Arnon) was the gabawal (border/boundary) of Mawaab (Moab).

Yashar-Al (Israel) shalach (send) malaakayam (messengers) to Sayachawan (Sihon) malak (king) of the Amaray (Amaray / Amorite), the malak (king) of Chashabawan (Heshbon); and Yashar-Al (Israel) amar (said) to him, ‘Please let us ibar (pass over/through) through your aratz (Earth/land) to my maqawam (place).’

But Sayachawan (Sihon) didn't aman (believe / have faith) Yashar-Al (Israel) to ibar (pass over/through) through his gabawal (border/boundary); but Sayachawan (Sihon) asap (gathered) all his im (nation / people) asap (together), and chanah (encamped) in Yahatz (Jahaz), and lacham (fought) against Yashar-Al (Israel).

Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel), nathan (give) Sayachawan (Sihon) and all his im (nation / people) into the yad (hand) of Yashar-Al (Israel), and they nakah (struck) them: so Yashar-Al (Israel) yarash (possessed) all the aratz (Earth/land) of the Amaray (Amorites), the yashab (inhabit/dwell) of that aratz (Earth/land).

They yarash (possessed) all the gabawal (border/boundary) of the Amaray (Amaray / Amorite), from the Aranawan (Arnon) even to the Yabaq (Jabbok), and from the madabar (wilderness) even to the Yaradan (Jordan).

So now Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel), has yarash (dispossessed) the Amaray (Amorites) from panayam (face) his im (nation / people) Yashar-Al (Israel), and should you yarash (possess) them?

Won't you yarash (possess) that which Kamawash (Chemosh) your Alahayam () nayarash (gives) you to possess? So whoever Yahawah () our Alahayam () has yarash (dispossessed) from panayam (face) us, them will we yarash (possess).

Now are you anything tawab (good / proper function) than Balaq (Balak) the ban (son) of Tzapawar (Zippor), malak (king) of Mawaab (Moab)? Did he rayab (ever) rayab (strive) against Yashar-Al (Israel), or did he rayab (ever) lacham (fight) against them?

While Yashar-Al (Israel) lived in Chashabawan (Heshbon) and its banath (daughter), and in Irawair (Aroer) and its banath (daughter), and in all the irayam (cities) that are along by the yad (hand) of the Aranawan (Arnon), shalawash (three) maah (hundred) shanah (years); why didn't you natzal (recover) them within that ith (time)?

I therefore have not chataa (sinned) against you, but you ishah (make) me rai (wrong) to lacham (war) against me. Yahawah (), the shapat (judge / judgement), be shapat (judge / judgement) this yawam (day) between the banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel) and the banay (children) of Imawan (Ammon).”

However the malak (king) of the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon) didn't shamai (hearken / hear) to the dabaray (words) of Yapathach (Jephthah) which he shalach (send) him.

Then the rawach (spirit / wind) of Yahawah () came on Yapathach (Jephthah), and he ibar (pass over/through) over Galaid (Gilead) and Manashah (Manasseh), and ibar (pass over/through) over Matzapah (Mizpeh) of Galaid (Gilead), and from Matzapah (Mizpeh) of Galaid (Gilead) he ibar (pass over/through) over to the banay (children) of Imawan (Ammon).

Yapathach (Jephthah) nadar (make vow) a nadar (vow) to Yahawah (), and amar (spoke), “If you will nathan (give) nathan (give) the banay (children) of Imawan (Ammon) into my yad (hand),

Then it shall be, that whatever yatzaa (go out / come out) forth from the dalathay (doors) of my bayath (house) to qaraah (meet) me, when I shawab (turn back / repent) in shalawam (peace / safety) from the banay (children) of Imawan (Ammon), it shall be Yahawah (), and I will ilah (go up / offer) it up for a burnt ilah (offering).”

So Yapathach (Jephthah) ibar (pass over/through) over to the banay (children) of Imawan (Ammon) to lacham (fight) against them; and Yahawah () nathan (give) them into his yad (hand).

He nakah (struck) them from Irawair (Aroer) until you bawaa (bring) to Manayath (Minnith), even isharayam (twenty) iyar (cities), and to Abelcheramim, with a very gadawal (very great/important/mighty) makah (slaughter). So the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon) were kanai (subdued) panayam (face) the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel).

Yapathach (Jephthah) bawaa (bring) to Matzapah (Mizpah) to his bayath (house); and behold, his banath (daughter) yatzaa (go out / come out) out to qaraah (meet) him with tambourines and with machalawath (dances): and she was his only yachayad (child); besides her he had neither ban (son) aw (or) banath (daughter).

It happened, when he raah (see) her, that he qarai (tore) his clothes, and amar (spoke), “ahah (alas), my banath (daughter)! You have karai (brought) me very low, and you are one of those who ikar (trouble) me; for I have patzah (opened) my pah (mouth) to Yahawah (), and I can't shawab (turn back / repent) back.”

She amar (spoke) to him, “My ab (father), you have patzah (opened) your pah (mouth) to Yahawah (); ishah (make) to me according to that which yatzaa (go out / come out) proceeded out of your pah (mouth), because Yahawah () ishah (make) taken naqamah (vengeance) for you on your ayab (enemy), even on the banay (children) of Imawan (Ammon).”

She amar (said) to her ab (father), “Let this thing be ishah (make) for me: let me rapah (alone) shanayam (two) chadashayam (months), that I may depart and yarad (go) down on the harayam (mountains), and bakah (bewail) my bathawalayam (virginity), I and my companions.”

He amar (said), “yalak (go).” He shalach (send) her away for shanayam (two) chadashayam (months): and she departed, she and her raih (companions), and bakah (mourned) her bathawalayam (virginity) on the harayam (mountains).

It happened at the qatz (end) of shanayam (two) chadashayam (months), that she shawab (turn) to her ab (father), who ishah (make) with her according to his nadar (vow) which he had nadar (vow): and she was a virgin. It was a chaq (statute) in Yashar-Al (Israel),

That the banawath (daughters) of Yashar-Al (Israel) yalak (went) yawam (day) to celebrate the banath (daughter) of Yapathach (Jephthah) the Galaiday (Gileadite) arabai (four) yamayam (days) in a shanah (year).
