1 Yahawanathan (Jonathan) amar (spoke) to Dawad (David), "halak (move) in shalawam (peace / safety), because we have shanayam (two) shabai (swear / take oath) in the sham (name) of Yahawah (), amar (spoke), ‘Yahawah () shall be between me and you, and between my zarai (seed) and your zarai (seed), iwalam (forever).'" He arose and departed; and Yahawanathan (Jonathan) halak (move) into the city.
2 Then bawaa (come) Dawad (David) to Nob to Achayamalak (Ahimelech) the priest. “Achayamalak (Ahimelech) came to meet Dawad (David) trembling, and said to him, ‘Why are you alone, and no man with you?’
3 Dawad (David) amar (said) to Achayamalak (Ahimelech) the kahan (priest), "The king has amar (said) me a business, and has amar (said) to me, ‘Let no ayash (man / husband) know anything of the business about which I bawaa (bring) you, and what I have amar (said) you; and I have amar (said) the young men to such and such a place.'
4 Now therefore what is under your hand? Amar (said) me five loaves of bread in my hand, or whatever there is present."
5 The priest answered Dawad (David), and said, “There is no common lacham (bread) under my yad (hand), but there is holy lacham (bread); if only the young men have kept themselves from women.”
6 Dawad (David) inah (answer / respond) the kahan (priest), and inah (answer / respond) to him, "Truly, ayashah (woman / wife) have been shamar (keep/guard) from us about these three qadash (set apart / make holy). When I came out, the vessels of the nair (young) men were qadash (set apart / make holy), though it was but a chal (common) journey. How much more then today shall their vessels be qadash (set apart / make holy)?"
7 So the kahan (priest) inah (answer / respond) him qadash (set apart / make holy) chal (bread); for there was no bread there but the show chal (bread), that was yatzaa (go out / come out) from thamawal (before) Yahawah (), to yatzaa (go out / come out) hot chal (bread) in the yawam (day) when it was yatzaa (go out / come out) away.
8 Now a certain man of the servants of Shaawal (Saul) was there that yawam (day), detained panayam (face) Yahawah (); and his shawam (place / establish / appoint) was Daag (Doeg) the Adawamay (Edomite), the best of the herdsmen who belonged to Shaawal (Saul).
9 Dawad (David) said to Achayamalak (Ahimelech), "Isn't there here under your hand spear or sword? For I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king's business yawam (day) haste."
10 The priest amar (spoke), "The charab (sword) of Galayath (Goliath) the Philistine, whom you killed in the valley of Alah (Elah), behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. If you will laqach (take / seize) that, laqach (take / seize) it; for there is no other except that here." Dawad (David) amar (spoke), "There is none like that. Amar (spoke) it to me."
11 Dawad (David) arose, and fled that day for fear of Shaawal (Saul), and nakah (went) to “Akayash (Achish) the king of ‘Gath.’”
12 The servants of Akayash (Achish) said to him, "Isn't this Dawad (David) the malak (king) of the land? Didn't they sing one to another about him in dances, saying, ‘Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) has slain his thousands, Dawad (David) his ten thousands?'"
13 Dawad (David) laid up these words in his heart, and was very afraid of Akayash (Achish) the malak (king) of Gath.
14 He shawam (place / establish / appoint) his behavior panayam (face) them, and pretended to be mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down on his beard.
15 Then Akayash (Achish) said to his servants, "iyan (eye), you see the man is halal (praise). Why then il (over) you brought him to me?
