Samuel 28 — Novel English Bible

It happened in those yamayam (days), that the Palashathay (Philistines) qabatz (gathered) their machanah (armies) qabatz (together) for tzabaa (troop), to lacham (fight) with Yashar-Al (Israel). Akayash (Achish) amar (said) to Dawad (David), “yadai (know) yadai (assuredly) that you shall yatzaa (go out / come out) out with me in the machanah (army), you and your yadai (men).”

Dawad (David) amar (said) to Akayash (Achish), “Therefore you shall yadai (know) what your ibad (servant) will ishah (make).” Akayash (Achish) amar (said) to Dawad (David), “Therefore will I shawam (place / establish / appoint) you my bodyguard for yawam (day).”

Now Shamawaal (Samuel) was mawath (death), and all Yashar-Al (Israel) had sapad (lamented) him, and qabar (grave / tomb / sepulcher) him in Ramah (Ramah), even in his own iyar (city). Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) had sawar (put) away those who had familiar abawath (spirits), and the yadainayam (wizards), out of the aratz (Earth/land).

The Palashathay (Philistines) qabatz (gathered) themselves together, and bawaa (bring) and chanah (encamped) in Shawanam (Shunem): and Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) qabatz (gathered) all Yashar-Al (Israel) qabatz (together), and they chanah (encamped) in Galabai (Gilboa).

When Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) raah (see / saw) the machanah (army) of the Palashathay (Philistines), he was yaraa (fear / be afraid), and his lab (heart) charad (trembled) maad (greatly).

When Shaawal (Saul) inquired of Yahawah (), Yahawah () didn't inah (answer / respond) him, neither by chalamawath (dreams), nor by awarayam (urim), nor by nabayaam (prophets).

Then Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) amar (said) to his ibad (servant), “baqash (seek) me a ayashah (woman / wife) who has a familiar awab (spirit), that I may yalak (go) to her, and darash (inquire) of her.” His ibad (servant) amar (said) to him, “Behold, there is a ayashah (woman / wife) who has a familiar awab (spirit) at Iyan-Daar (Endor).”

Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) disguised himself, and labash (put) on other bagad (clothing), and yalak (went), he and shanayam (two) acharayam (men) with him, and they bawaa (bring) to the ayashah (woman / wife) by layal (night): and he amar (said), “Please qasam (divine) to me by the familiar awab (spirit), and ilah (go up / offer) me up whomever I shall amar (said) to you.”

The ayashah (woman / wife) amar (said) to him, “Behold, you yadai (know) what Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) ishah (make) done, how he has karath (cut) off those who have familiar abawath (spirits), and the yadainay (wizards), out of the aratz (Earth/land). Why then do you lay a naqash (snare) for my napash (soul), to cause me to mawath (death)?”

Shaawal (Saul) shabai (swear / take oath) to her by Yahawah (), amar (spoke), “As Yahawah () chay (life), no iwan (guilt/iniquity) shall qarah (happen) to you for this thing.”

Then the ayashah (woman / wife) amar (said), “Whom shall I ilah (go up / offer) up to you?” He amar (said), “Bring Shamawaal (Samuel) up for me.”

When the ayashah (woman / wife) raah (see / saw) Shamawaal (Samuel), she zaiq (cried) with a gadawal (very great/important/mighty) qawal (sound / voice); and the ayashah (woman / wife) amar (said) to Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife), amar (said), “Why have you ramah (deceived) me? For you are Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife)!”

The malak (king) amar (spoke) to her, “Don't be yaraa (fear / be afraid). For what do you raah (see)?” The ayashah (woman / wife) amar (spoke) to Shaawal (Saul), “I raah (see) a Alahayam () coming up out of the aratz (Earth/land).”

He amar (said) to her, “What does he look like?” She amar (said), “An zaqan (old) ayash (man / husband) ilah (go up / offer) up. He is itah (covered) with a maiyal (robe).” Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) yadai (perceived) that it was Shamawaal (Samuel), and he qadad (bowed) with his ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) to the aratz (Earth/land), and showed respect.

Shamawaal (Samuel) amar (spoke) to Shaawal (Saul), “Why have you disturbed me, to ilah (go up / offer) me up?” Shaawal (Saul) amar (spoke), “I am very tzarar (distressed); for the Palashathay (Philistines) make lacham (war) against me, and Alahayam () has sawar (departed) from me, and answers me no more, neither by nabayaam (prophets), nor by chalamawath (dreams). Therefore I have qaraa (called) you, that you may yadai (make) known to me what I shall ishah (make).”

Shamawaal (Samuel) amar (spoke), “Why then do you shaal (ask) of me, since Yahawah () has sawar (departed) from you and has become your ir (adversary)?

Yahawah () ishah (make) done to you as he dabar (word / matter) by me. Yahawah () has qarai (torn) the mamalakah (kingdom) out of your yad (hand), and nathan (give) it to your neighbor, even to Dawad (David).

Ashar (who/that) you didn't obey the qawal (sound / voice) of Yahawah (), and didn't ishah (make) his charawan (fierce) ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) on Imalaq (Amalek), therefore Yahawah () ishah (make) done this thing to you this yawam (day).

Moreover Yahawah () will nathan (give) Yashar-Al (Israel) also with you into the yad (hand) of the Palashathay (Philistines); and machar (tomorrow) you and your ban (son) will be with me. Yahawah () will nathan (give) the machanah (army) of Yashar-Al (Israel) also into the yad (hand) of the Palashathay (Philistines).”

Then Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) napal (fall / be cast down) immediately his malaa (full) length on the aratz (Earth/land), and was terrified, because of the dabaray (words) of Shamawaal (Samuel). There was no kach (strength / mighty / power) in him; for he had akal (eat) no lacham (bread) all the yawam (day), nor all the layal (night).

The ayashah (woman / wife) bawaa (bring) to Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife), and raah (see / saw) that he was very bahal (troubled), and amar (said) to him, “Behold, your handmaid has shamai (hearken / hear) to your qawal (sound / voice), and I have shawam (place / establish / appoint) my napash (soul) in my kap (hand), and have shamai (hearken / hear) to your dabar (word / matter) which you dabar (word / matter) to me.

Now therefore, please shamai (hearken / hear) also to the qawal (sound / voice) of your handmaid, and let me shawam (place / establish / appoint) a path (morsel) of lacham (bread) panayam (face) you; and akal (eat), that you may have kach (strength / mighty / power), when you yalak (go) on your darak (way).”

But he maan (refused), and amar (said), “I will not akal (eat).” But his ibad (servant), together with the ayashah (woman / wife), constrained him; and he shamai (hearken / hear) to their qawal (sound / voice). So he qawam (rise up) from the aratz (Earth/land), and yashab (inhabit/dwell) on the matah (bed).

The ayashah (woman / wife) had a fattened igal (calf) in the bayath (house). She hurried and zabach (killed) it; and she laqach (take / seize) qamach (flour), and lawash (kneaded) it, and apah (baked) unleavened matzah (bread) of it.

She nagash (brought) it panayam (face) Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife), and panayam (face) his ibad (servant); and they akal (eat). Then they qawam (rise up) up, and yalak (went) away that layal (night).
