1 It happened, when Shamawaal (Samuel) was zaqan (old), that he shawam (place / establish / appoint) his ban (son) shapatayam (judges) over Yashar-Al (Israel).
2 Now the sham (name) of his ban (son) was Yawaal (Joel); and the sham (name) of his mashanah (second), Abayah (Abijah): they were shapatayam (judges) in Baar-Shabai (Beersheba).
3 His ban (son) didn't halak (move) in his darak (ways), but natah (turned) aside achar (other) batzai (lucre), and laqach (take / seize) shachad (bribes), and natah (perverted) mashapat (justice).
4 Then all the zaqanay (elders) of Yashar-Al (Israel) qabatz (gathered) themselves together, and bawaa (bring) to Shamawaal (Samuel) to Ramah (Ramah);
5 And they amar (said) to him, “Behold, you are zaqan (old), and your ban (son) don't halak (move) in your darak (ways): now shawam (place / establish / appoint) us a malak (king) to shapat (judge / judgement) us like all the gawayam (heathen).”
6 But the thing displeased Shamawaal (Samuel), when they amar (spoke), “nathan (give) us a malak (king) to shapat (judge / judgement) us.” Shamawaal (Samuel) palal (prayed) to Yahawah ().
7 Yahawah () amar (spoke) to Shamawaal (Samuel), “shamai (hearken / hear) to the qawal (sound / voice) of the im (nation / people) in all that they amar (spoke) you; for they have not maas (rejected) you, but they have maas (rejected) me, that I should not be malak (king) over them.
8 According to all the maishayam (works) which they ishah (make) done since the yawam (day) that I ilah (go up / offer) them up out of Matzarayam (Egypt) even to this yawam (day), in that they have forsaken me, and ibad (servant) other Alahayam (), so ishah (make) they also to you.
9 Now therefore shamai (hearken / hear) to their qawal (sound / voice): however you shall iwad (admonish/bear witness against) iwad (admonish/bear witness against) to them, and shall show them the mashapat (way) of the malak (king) who shall malak (king) over them.”
10 Shamawaal (Samuel) amar (spoke) all the dabaray (words) of Yahawah () to the im (nation / people) who shaal (asked) of him a malak (king).
11 He amar (said), “This will be the mashapat (way) of the malak (king) who shall malak (king) over you: he will laqach (take / seize) your ban (son), and shawam (place / establish / appoint) them to him, for his marakabah (chariots), and to be his horsemen; and they shall rawatz (run) panayam (face) his marakabah (chariots);
12 And he will shawam (place / establish / appoint) them to him for sharay (captains) of alapayam (thousands), and sharay (captains) of chamashayam (fifties); and he will assign some to charash (plow) his charayash (ground), and to qatzar (reap) his qatzayar (harvest), and to ishah (make) his kalay (instruments) of malachamah (war), and the kalay (instruments) of his rakab (chariots).
13 He will laqach (take / seize) your banath (daughter) to be perfumers, and to be tabachawath (cooks), and to be bakers.
14 He will laqach (take / seize) your shadah (fields), and your karam (vineyards), and your zayath (olive) groves, even their tawab (good / proper function), and nathan (give) them to his ibad (servant).
15 He will take the ishar (tenth) of your zarai (seed), and of your karam (vineyards), and nathan (give) to his sarayas (officers), and to his ibad (servant).
16 He will laqach (take / seize) your male ibad (servant), and your female ibad (servant), and your tawab (good / proper function) bachawar (young) men, and your donkeys, and ishah (make) them to his malaakah (work).
17 He will take the ishar (tenth) of your tzaan (flocks): and you shall be his ibadayam (servants).
18 You shall zaiq (cry) out in that yawam (day) panayam (face) of your malak (king) whom you shall have bachar (chosen) you; and Yahawah () will not inah (answer / respond) you in that yawam (day).”
19 But the im (nation / people) maan (refused) to shamai (hearken / hear) to the qawal (sound / voice) of Shamawaal (Samuel); and they amar (said), “No; but we will have a malak (king) over us,
20 That we also may be like all the gawayam (heathen), and that our malak (king) may shapat (judge / judgement) us, and yatzaa (go out / come out) out panayam (face) us, and lacham (fight) our malachamah (battles).”
21 Shamawaal (Samuel) shamai (hearken / hear) all the dabaray (words) of the im (nation / people), and he dabar (word / matter) them in the azanay (ears) of Yahawah ().
22 Yahawah () amar (spoke) to Shamawaal (Samuel), “shamai (hearken / hear) to their qawal (sound / voice), and malak (king) them a malak (king).” Shamawaal (Samuel) amar (spoke) to the anashay (men) of Yashar-Al (Israel), “Every ayash (man / husband) yalak (go) to his iyar (city).”
