Kings 2 — English–Hebrew Parallel

Now the yamay (days) of Dawad (David) qarab (come close) near that he should mawath (death); and he tzawah (commanded) Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch) his ban (son), amar (said),

“I am halak (move) the darak (way) of all the aratz (Earth/land). You be chazaq (strong) therefore, and show yourself a ayash (man / husband);

And shamar (keep/guard) the instruction of Yahawah () your Alahayam (), to yalak (walk) in his darak (ways), to shamar (keep/guard) his chaqah (statutes), his matzawah (commandments), his mashapat (ordinances), and his idawath (testimonies), according to that which is kathab (write) in the thawarah (instruction) of Mashah (Moses), that you may shakal (prosper) in all that you ishah (make), and wherever you panah (turn) yourself.

That Yahawah () may qawam (rise up) his dabar (word / matter) which he dabar (word / matter) concerning me, amar (spoke), ‘If your ban (son) shamar (keep/guard) heed to their darak (way), to yalak (walk) panayam (face) me in amath (truth) with all their labab (heart) and with all their napash (soul), there shall not karath (cut) you,’ he amar (spoke), ‘a ayash (man / husband) on the kasaa (throne) of Yashar-Al (Israel).’

“Moreover you yadai (know) also what Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) the ban (son) of Tzarawayah (Zeruiah) ishah (make) to me, even what he ishah (make) to the shanayam (two) sharay (captains) of the tzabaawath (armies) of Yashar-Al (Israel), to Abanar (Abner) the ban (son) of Nar (Ner), and to Imashaa (Amasa) the ban (son) of Yathar (Jether), whom he harag (kill), and shed the dam (blood) of malachamah (war) in shalawam (peace / safety), and nathan (give) the dam (blood) of malachamah (war) on his sash that was about his waist, and in his nail (shoes) that were on his ragal (feet / foot).

Ishah (make) therefore according to your chakamah (wisdom), and don't let his gray shayabah (old age / white hair - due to age) yarad (go) down to shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) in shalawam (peace / safety).

But show chasad (grace) to the banay (my son) of Barazalay (Barzillai) the Galaiday (Gileadite), and let them be of those who akal (eat) at your shalachan (table); for so they qarab (come close) to me when I barach (fled) from Abayashalawam (Absalom) your ach (brother/kinsman).

“Behold, there is with you Shamaiy (Shimei) the ban (son) of Garaa (Gera), the Banayamayanay (Benjamite), of Bacharayam (Bahurim), who qalal (cursed) me with a maratz (grievous) qalalah (curse) in the yawam (day) when I yalak (went) to Machanayam (Mahanaim); but he yarad (came) down to qaraah (meet) me at the Yaradan (Jordan), and I shabai (swear / take oath) to him by Yahawah (), amar (spoke), ‘I will not put you to mawath (death) with the charab (sword).’

Now therefore don't hold him naqah (clean/innocent), for you are a chakam (wise) ayash (man / husband); and you yadai (will) know what you ought to ishah (make) to him, and you shall bring his gray shayabah (old age / white hair - due to age) down to shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) with dam (blood).”

Dawad (David) shakab (slept) with his ab (father), and was qabar (grave / tomb / sepulcher) in the iyar (city) of Dawad (David).

The yamayam (days) that Dawad (David) malak (king) over Yashar-Al (Israel) were arabaiyam (forty) shanayam (two); he malak (king) shabai (seven) shanayam (two) in Chabarawan (Hebron), and he malak (king) shalawashayam (thirty) - shalawash (three) shanayam (two) in Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem).

Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch) yashab (inhabit/dwell) on the kasaa (throne) of Dawad (David) his ab (father); and his malakawath (kingdom) was firmly kawan (established).

Then Adanayah (Adanayah / Adonijah) the ban (son) of Chagayath (Haggith) bawaa (bring) to Bathashabai (Bathsheba) the am (mother) of Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch). She amar (said), “Do you bawaa (bring) peaceably?” He amar (said), “Peaceably.

He amar (said) moreover, I have something to tell you.” She dabar (word / matter), “dabar (word / matter) on.”

He amar (spoke), “You yadai (know) that the malawakah (kingdom) was mine, and that all Yashar-Al (Israel) shawam (place / establish / appoint) their panayam (face) on me, that I should malak (king). However the malawakah (kingdom) is sabab (turned) around, and has become my ach (brother/kinsman); for it was his from Yahawah ().

Now I shaal (ask) achad (one) shaalah (petition) of you. Don't shawab (turn) me.” She amar (said) to him, “dabar (word / matter) on.”

He amar (said), “Please amar (said) to Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch) the malak (king) (for he will not tell you no'), that he nathan (give) me Abayashag (Abishag) the Shunammite as ayashah (woman / wife).”

“Bathashabai (Bathsheba) amar (said), Alright. I will dabar (word / matter) for you to the malak (king).”

Bathashabai (Bathsheba) therefore bawaa (bring) to malak (king) Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch), to dabar (word / matter) to him for Adanayah (Adanayah / Adonijah). The malak (king) qawam (rise up) up to qaraah (meet) her, and shachah (bowed) himself to her, and yashab (inhabit/dwell) down on his kasaa (throne), and caused a kasaa (throne) to be shawam (place / establish / appoint) for the malak (king) am (mother); and she sat on his right yamayan (right hand).

Then she said, “I shaal (ask) achad (one) qatan (small / young / least) shaalah (petition) of you; don't shawab (turn) me.” The malak (king) shawab (turn) to her, “Ask on, my am (mother); for I will not shawab (turn) you.”

She amar (said), “Let Abayashag (Abishag) the Shunammite be nathan (give) to Adanayah (Adanayah / Adonijah) your ach (brother/kinsman) as ayashah (woman / wife).”

Malak (king) Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch) inah (answer / respond) his am (mother), “Why do you shaal (ask) Abayashag (Abishag) the Shunammite for Adanayah (Adanayah / Adonijah)? Shaal (ask) for him the malawakah (kingdom) also; for he is my gadawal (very great/important/mighty) ach (brother/kinsman); even for him, and for Abayathar (Abiathar) the kahan (priest), and for Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) the ban (son) of Tzarawayah (Zeruiah).”

Then malak (king) Shalamah (Solomon) shabai (swear / take oath) by Yahawah (), amar (spoke), “Alahayam () ishah (make) so to me, and more also, if Adanayah (Adonijah) has not dabar (word / matter) this dabar (word / matter) against his own napash (soul).

Now therefore as Yahawah () chay (life), who has kawan (established) me, and yashab (inhabit/dwell) me on the kasaa (throne) of Dawad (David) my ab (father), and who ishah (make) made me a bayath (house), as he dabar (word / matter), surely Adanayah (Adonijah) shall be put to mawath (death) this yawam (day).”

Malak (king) Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch) shalach (send) by Banayah (Benaiah) the ban (son) of Yahawayadai (Jehoiada); and he pagai (fell) on him, so that he mawath (death).

To Abayathar (Abiathar) the kahan (priest) the malak (king) amar (spoke), “yalak (go) to Inathawath (Anathoth), to your own shadah (fields); for you are ayash (man / husband) of mawath (death). But I will not at this yawam (day) put you to mawath (death), because you nashaa (lift) the arawan (ark) of the Adanay () Yahawah () panayam (face) Dawad (David) my ab (father), and because you were inah (oppress / afflict) in all in which my ab (father) was inah (oppress / afflict).”

So Shalamah (Solomon) garash (thrust) out Abayathar (Abiathar) from being kahan (priest) to Yahawah (), that he might fulfill the dabar (word / matter) of Yahawah (), which he dabar (word / matter) concerning the bayath (house) of Ilay (Eli) in Shayalah (Shiloh).

The shamawaih (news) bawaa (come) to Yawaab (Joab); for Yawaab (Joab) had natah (turned) achar (other) Adanayah (Adonijah), though he didn't natah (turn) achar (other) Abayashalawam (Absalom). Yawaab (Joab) nawas (fled) to the ahal (tent) of Yahawah (), and chazaq (caught) hold on the qaranawath (horns) of the mazabach (altar).

It was nagad (told) malak (king) Shalamah (Solomon), “Yawaab (Joab) has nawas (fled) to the ahal (tent) of Yahawah (), and behold, he is by the mazabach (altar).” Then Shalamah (Solomon) shalach (send) Banayah (Benaiah) the ban (son) of Yahawayadai (Jehoiada), amar (spoke), “yalak (go), pagai (fall) on him.”

Banayah (Benaiah) bawaa (come) to the ahal (tent) of Yahawah (), and amar (spoke) to him, “Thus amar (spoke) the malak (king), ‘yatzaa (go out / come out) forth!’” He amar (spoke), “No; but I will mawath (death) here.” Banayah (Benaiah) shawab (turn back / repent) the malak (king) dabar (word / matter) again, amar (spoke), “Thus dabar (word / matter) Yawaab (Joab), and thus he dabar (word / matter) me.”

The malak (king) amar (said) to him, “ishah (make) as he has amar (said), and pagai (fall) on him, and qabar (grave / tomb / sepulcher) him; that you may sawar (take) away the dam (blood), which Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) shapak (shed) chanam (without) cause, from me and from my ab (father) bayath (house).

Yahawah () will shawab (turn back / repent) his dam (blood) on his own raash (head), because he pagai (fell) on shanayam (two) raash (head) more tzadayaq (righteous) and tawab (good / proper function) than he, and harag (kill) them with the charab (sword), and my ab (father) Dawad (David) didn't yadai (know) it: Abanar (Abner) the ban (son) of Nar (Ner), shar (prince / ruler) of the tzabaa (troop) of Yashar-Al (Israel), and Imashaa (Amasa) the ban (son) of Yathar (Jether), shar (prince / ruler) of the tzabaa (troop) of Yahawadah (Judah).

So shall their dam (blood) shawab (turn back / repent) on the raash (head) of Yawaab (Joab), and on the raash (head) of his zarai (seed) iwalam (forever). But to Dawad (David), and to his zarai (seed), and to his bayath (house), and to his kasaa (throne), there shall be shalawam (peace / safety) iwalam (forever) from Yahawah ().”

Then Banayah (Benaiah) the ban (son) of Yahawayadai (Jehoiada) ilah (go up / offer) up, and pagai (fell) on him, and mawath (death) him; and he was qabar (grave / tomb / sepulcher) in his own bayath (house) in the madabar (wilderness).

The malak (king) nathan (give) Banayah (Benaiah) the ban (son) of Yahawayadai (Jehoiada) in his place over the tzabaa (troop); and the malak (king) nathan (give) Tzadawaq (Zadok) the kahan (priest) in the place of Abayathar (Abiathar).

The malak (king) shalach (send) and qaraa (called) for Shamaiy (Shimei), and amar (said) to him, “banah (build) yourself a bayath (house) in Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem), and yashab (inhabit/dwell) there, and don't yatzaa (go out / come out) out from there anywhere.

For on the yawam (day) you yatzaa (go out / come out) out, and ibar (pass over/through) over the nachal (stream / river) Qadarawan (Kidron), yadai (know) for certain that you shall mawath (death) mawath (death): your dam (blood) shall be on your own raash (head).”

Shamaiy (Shimei) amar (spoke) to the malak (king), “The amar (spoke) is tawab (good / proper function). As my Adawan () the malak (king) has dabar (word / matter), so will your ibad (servant) ishah (make).” Shamaiy (Shimei) lived in Yarawashalam (Jerusalem) many yamayam (days).

It happened at the qatz (end) of shalawash (three) shanayam (two), that shanayam (two) of the ibadayam (servants) of Shamaiy (Shimei) barach (ran) away to Akayash (Achish), ban (son) of Maikah (Maacah), malak (king) of gath (gath). They nagad (told) Shamaiy (Shimei), amar (said), “Behold, your ibadayam (servants) are in gath (gath).”

Shamaiy (Shimei) qawam (rise up), and chabash (saddled) his donkey, and yalak (went) to gath (gath) to Akayash (Achish), to baqash (seek) his ibad (servant); and Shamaiy (Shimei) yalak (went), and bawaa (bring) his ibad (servant) from gath (gath).

It was nagad (told) Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch) that Shamaiy (Shimei) had halak (move) from Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem) to gath (gath), and had shawab (turn) again.

The malak (king) shalach (send) and qaraa (called) for Shamaiy (Shimei), and amar (spoke) to him, “Didn't I shabai (swear / take oath) you by Yahawah (), and warn you, amar (spoke), ‘yadai (know) for certain, that on the yawam (day) you yatzaa (go out / come out) out, and halak (move) abroad any an (where), you shall mawath (death) mawath (death)?’ You amar (spoke) to me, ‘The dabar (word / matter) that I have shamai (hearken / hear) is tawab (good / proper function).’

Why then have you not shamar (keep/guard) the shabawaih (oath) of Yahawah (), and the matzawah (commandment) that I have instructed you with?”

The malak (king) amar (spoke) moreover to Shamaiy (Shimei), “You yadai (know) all the rai (wickedness) which your labab (heart) is yadai (privy) to, that you ishah (make) to Dawad (David) my ab (father). Therefore Yahawah () shall shawab (turn back / repent) your rai (wickedness) on your own raash (head).

But malak (king) Shalamah (Solomon) shall be barak (blessed), and the kasaa (throne) of Dawad (David) shall be kawan (established) panayam (face) Yahawah () iwalam (forever).”

So the malak (king) tzawah (commanded) Banayah (Benaiah) the ban (son) of Yahawayadai (Jehoiada); and he yatzaa (go out / come out) out, and pagai (fell) on him, so that he mawath (death). The mamalakah (kingdom) was kawan (established) in the yad (hand) of Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch).
