2 Kings 17 — English–Hebrew Parallel

1 In the shanayam (two) shanah (year) of Achaz (Ahaz) malak (king) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah), Hawashai (Hoshea) the ban (son) of Alah (these) began to malak (king) in Shamarawan (Samaria) over Yashar-Al (Israel) for thashai (nine) shanayam (two).

2 He ishah (make) that which was rai (evil) in the iyan (eye) of Yahawah (), yet not as the malakay (kings) of Yashar-Al (Israel) who were panayam (face) him.

3 Against him ilah (go up / offer) up Shalamanaasar (Shalmaneser) malak (king) of Ashawar (Assyria); and Hawashai (Hoshea) became his ibad (servant), and shawab (turn) him tribute.

4 The malak (king) of Ashawar (Assyria) matzaa (found) qashar (conspiracy) in Hawashai (Hoshea); for he had shalach (send) malaakayam (messengers) to So malak (king) of Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt), and ilah (go up / offer) no tribute to the malak (king) of Ashawar (Assyria), as he had done shanah (year) by shanah (year): therefore the malak (king) of Ashawar (Assyria) itzar (shut) him up, and asar (bound) him in bayath (house).

5 Then the malak (king) of Ashawar (Assyria) ilah (go up / offer) up throughout all the aratz (Earth/land), and ilah (go up / offer) up to Shamarawan (Samaria), and tzawar (besieged) it shalawash (three) shanayam (two).

6 In the thashayaiy (ninth) shanah (year) of Hawashai (Hoshea) the malak (king) of Ashawar (Assyria) lakad (took) Shamarawan (Samaria), and galah (carried) Yashar-Al (Israel) away to Ashawar (Assyria), and yashab (inhabit/dwell) them in Chalach (Halah), and on the Chabawar (Habor), the nahar (river) of Gawazan (Gozan), and in the iray (cities) of the Maday (Medes).

7 It was so, because the banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel) had chataa (sinned) against Yahawah () their Alahayam (), who ilah (go up / offer) them up out of the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Egypt) from under the yad (hand) of Paraih (Pharaoh) malak (king) of Matzarayam (Egypt), and had yaraa (fear / be afraid) other Alahayam (),

8 And yalak (walked) in the chaqawath (statutes) of the gawayam (nations), whom Yahawah () yarash (cast) out from panayam (face) the banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel), and of the malakay (kings) of Yashar-Al (Israel), which they ishah (make).

9 The banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel) chapaa (did) secretly things that were not right against Yahawah () their Alahayam (): and they banah (build) them bamah (high) places in all their iyar (cities), from the magadal (tower) of the watchmen to the fortified iyar (city);

10 And they natzab (set) them up matzabawath (pillars) and Asharah (Asherim) on every gabah (high) gabaih (hill), and under every rainan (green) itz (tree);

11 And there they burnt qatar (incense) in all the bamah (high) places, as did the gawayam (nations) whom Yahawah () galah (carried) away panayam (face) them; and they ishah (make) rai (wicked) things to provoke Yahawah () to kais (anger);

12 And they ibad (servant) galalayam (idols), of which Yahawah () had amar (spoke) to them, “You shall not ishah (make) this thing.”

13 Yet Yahawah () iwad (admonish/bear witness against) to Yashar-Al (Israel), and to Yahawadah (Judah), by every nabayaa (prophet/prophecy), and every chazah (seer), amar (spoke), “shawab (turn back / repent) from your rai (evil) darak (ways), and shamar (keep/guard) my matzawah (commandments) and my chaqah (statutes), according to all the thawarah (instruction) which I tzawah (commanded) your ab (father), and which I shalach (send) to you by my ibad (servant) the nabayaayam (prophets).”

14 Notwithstanding, they would not shamai (hearken / hear), but hardened their irap (neck), like the irap (neck) of their ab (father), who didn't aman (believe / have faith) in Yahawah () their Alahayam ().

15 They maas (rejected) his chaq (statute), and his barayath (covenant) that he karath (cut) with their ab (father), and his idawath (testimonies) which he iwad (admonish/bear witness against) to them; and they yalak (followed) habal (vanity), and habal (became) vain, and achar (other) the gawayam (nations) that were around them, concerning whom Yahawah () had tzawah (commanded) them that they should not ishah (make) like them.

16 They forsook all the matzawath (commandments) of Yahawah () their Alahayam (), and ishah (make) them masakah (molten) images, even shanayam (two) calves, and ishah (make) an Asharah (Asherah), and shachah (worshiped) all the tzabaa (troop) of the sky, and ibad (servant) Bail (Baal).

17 They caused their ban (son) and their banath (daughter) to ibar (pass over/through) through the ash (fire), and used qasam (divination) and yanachashaw (enchantments), and makar (sold) themselves to ishah (make) that which was rai (evil) in the iyan (eye) of Yahawah (), to provoke him to kais (anger).

18 Therefore Yahawah () was very anap (angry) with Yashar-Al (Israel), and sawar (removed) them out of his panayam (face): there was none shaar (left) but the shabat (tribe) of Yahawadah (Judah) only.

19 Also Yahawadah (Judah) didn't shamar (keep/guard) the matzawath (commandments) of Yahawah () their Alahayam (), but yalak (walked) in the chaqawath (statutes) of Yashar-Al (Israel) which they ishah (make).

20 Yahawah () maas (rejected) all the zarai (seed) of Yashar-Al (Israel), and inah (oppress / afflict) them, and nathan (give) them into the yad (hand) of shasayam (spoilers), until he had shalak (cast) them out of his panayam (face).

21 For he qarai (tore) Yashar-Al (Israel) from the bayath (house) of Dawad (David); and they made Yarabaim (Jeroboam) the ban (son) of Nabat (Nebat) malak (king): and Yarabaim (Jeroboam) nadah (drove) Yashar-Al (Israel) from achar (other) Yahawah (), and made them chataa (sin) a gadawal (very great/important/mighty) chataah (sin).

22 The banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel) yalak (walked) in all the chataawath (sins) of Yarabaim (Jeroboam) which he ishah (make); they didn't sawar (depart) from them;

23 Until Yahawah () sawar (removed) Yashar-Al (Israel) out of his panayam (face), as he dabar (word / matter) by all his ibad (servant) the nabayaayam (prophets). So Yashar-Al (Israel) was galah (carried) away out of their own adamah (land) to Ashawar (Assyria) to this yawam (day).

24 The malak (king) of Ashawar (Assyria) bawaa (bring) men from Babal (Babylon), and from Kawath (Cuthah), and from Iwah (Avva), and from Chamath (Hamath) and Saparawayam (Sepharvaim), and yashab (inhabit/dwell) them in the iray (cities) of Shamarawan (Samaria) instead of the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel); and they yarash (possessed) Shamarawan (Samaria), and lived in the iray (cities) of it.

25 So it was, at the thachalah (beginning) of their yashab (inhabit/dwell) there, that they didn't yaraa (fear / be afraid) Yahawah (): therefore Yahawah () shalach (send) arayawath (lions) among them, which harag (kill) some of them.

26 Therefore they amar (spoke) to the malak (king) of Ashawar (Assyria), amar (spoke), “The gawayam (nations) which you have galah (carried) away, and yashab (inhabit/dwell) in the iray (cities) of Shamarawan (Samaria), don't yadai (know) the mashapat (law) of the Alahayam () of the aratz (Earth/land). Therefore he has shalach (send) arayawath (lions) among them, and behold, they mawath (death) them, because they don't yadai (know) the mashapat (law) of the Alahayam () of the aratz (Earth/land).”

27 Then the malak (king) of Ashawar (Assyria) tzawah (commanded), amar (spoke), “yalak (carry) there achad (one) of the kahanayam (priests) whom you galah (brought) from there; and yalak (let) them go and yashab (inhabit/dwell) there, and let him yarah (teach) them the mashapat (law) of the Alahayam () of the aratz (Earth/land).”

28 So achad (one) of the kahanayam (priests) whom they had galah (carried) away from Shamarawan (Samaria) bawaa (come) and lived in Bayath-Al (Bethel), and yarah (taught) them how they should yaraa (fear / be afraid) Yahawah ().

29 However every gaway (heathen / nation) ishah (make) Alahayam () of their own, and yanach (put) them in the bayath (house) of the bamah (high) places which the Shamaranay (Samaritans) ishah (make) made, every gaway (heathen / nation) in their iyar (cities) in which they lived.

30 The anashay (men) of Babal (Babylon) ishah (make) Sakawathabanawath (Succoth Benoth), and the anashay (men) of Kawath (Cuth) ishah (make) Naragal (Nergal), and the anashay (men) of Chamath (Hamath) ishah (make) Ashayamaa (Ashima),

31 And the Avvites ishah (make) Nabachaz (Nibhaz) and Tharathaq (Tartak); and the saparawayam (sepharvites) burnt their ban (son) in the ash (fire) to Adaramalak (Adrammelech) and Inamalak (Anammelech), the Alahayam () of Saparawayam (Sepharvaim).

32 So they yaraa (fear / be afraid) Yahawah (), and ishah (make) to them from among themselves kahanay (priests) of the bamah (high) places, who ishah (make) for them in the bayath (house) of the bamah (high) places.

33 They yaraa (fear / be afraid) Yahawah (), and ibad (servant) their own Alahayam (), after the mashapat (ways) of the gawayam (nations) from among whom they had been galah (carried) away.

34 To this yawam (day) they ishah (make) what they did raashawan (before): they don't yaraa (fear / be afraid) Yahawah (), neither ishah (make) they follow their chaqah (statutes), or their mashapatayam (ordinances), or the thawarah (instruction) or the matzawah (commandment) which Yahawah () tzawah (commanded) the banay (children) of Yaiqab (Jacob), whom he shawam (place / establish / appoint) Yashar-Al (Israel);

35 With whom Yahawah () had karath (cut) a barayath (covenant), and tzawah (commanded) them, amar (spoke), “You shall not yaraa (fear / be afraid) other Alahayam (), nor shachah (bow) yourselves to them, nor ibad (servant) them, nor zabach (sacrifice) to them;

36 But you shall yaraa (fear / be afraid) Yahawah (), who ilah (go up / offer) you up out of the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Egypt) with gadawal (very great/important/mighty) kach (strength / mighty / power) and with an natah (outstretched) zarawai (arm), and you shall shachah (bow) yourselves to him, and you shall zabach (sacrifice) to him.

37 The chaqayam (statutes) and the mashapatayam (ordinances), and the thawarah (instruction) and the matzawah (commandment), which he kathab (write) for you, you shall shamar (keep/guard) to ishah (make) forevermore. You shall not yaraa (fear / be afraid) other Alahayam ().

38 You shall not shakach (forget) the barayath (covenant) that I have karath (cut) with you; neither shall you yaraa (fear / be afraid) other Alahayam ().

39 But you shall yaraa (fear / be afraid) Yahawah () your Alahayam (); and he will natzal (deliver) you out of the yad (hand) of all your ayab (enemy).”

40 However they did not shamai (hearken / hear), but they ishah (make) what they did raashawan (before).

41 So these gawayam (nations) yaraa (fear / be afraid) Yahawah (), and ibad (servant) their engraved pasayal (images). Their banay (children) likewise, and their banay (childrens) banay (children), as their ab (father) ishah (make), so they ishah (make) to this yawam (day).
