2 Samuel 16 — English–Hebrew Parallel

1 When Dawad (David) was a mait (little) past the raash (head), behold, Tzayabaa (Ziba) the nair (servant) of Mapayabashath (Mephibosheth) qaraa (called) him, with a tzamad (couple) of donkeys chabash (saddled), and on them two maah (hundred) loaves of lacham (bread), and one maah (hundred) clusters of tzamawaqayam (raisins), and one maah (hundred) qayatz (summer) fruits, and a nabal (bottle) of yayan (wine).

2 The malak (king) amar (said) to Tzayabaa (Ziba), “What do you mean by these?” Tzayabaa (Ziba) amar (said), “The donkeys are for the malak (king) bayath (house) to rakab (ride) on; and the lacham (bread) and qayatz (summer) fruit for the nair (young) men to akal (eat); and the yayan (wine), that such as are yaip (faint) in the madabar (wilderness) may shathah (drinks).”

3 The malak (king) amar (said), “Where is your adawan (master / lord) ban (son)?” Tzayabaa (Ziba) amar (said) to the malak (king), “Behold, he is staying in Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem); for he amar (said), ‘Today the bayath (house) of Yashar-Al (Israel) will shawab (turn) me the mamalakawath (kingdom) of my ab (father).’”

4 Then the malak (king) amar (spoke) to Tzayabaa (Ziba), “Behold, all that pertains to Mapayabashath (Mephibosheth) is yours.” Tzayabaa (Ziba) amar (spoke), “I shachah (do) obeisance. Let me matzaa (find) favor in your iyan (eye), my Adawan (), O malak (king).”

5 When malak (king) Dawad (David) bawaa (bring) to Bacharayam (Bahurim), behold, a ayash (man / husband) of the mashapachah (tribe / clan / family) of the bayath (house) of Shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) yatzaa (go out / come out) out, whose sham (name) was Shamaiy (Shimei), the ban (son) of Garaa (Gera). He yatzaa (go out / come out) out, and qalal (cursed) still as he yatzaa (go out / come out).

6 He saqal (cast) abanayam (stones) at Dawad (David), and at all the ibaday (servant of) of malak (king) Dawad (David), and all the im (nation / people) and all the gabawar (mighty) men were on his right yamayan (right hand) and on his shamaawal (left hand).

7 Shamaiy (Shimei) amar (said) when he qalal (cursed), “Be yatzaa (go out / come out), be yatzaa (go out / come out), you ayash (man / husband) of dam (blood), and base ayash (man / husband)!

8 Yahawah () has shawab (turn back / repent) on you all the dam (blood) of the bayath (house) of Shaawal (Saul), in whose place you have malak (king)! Yahawah () nathan (give) delivered the malawakah (kingdom) into the yad (hand) of Abayashalawam (Absalom) your ban (son)! Behold, you are caught by your own rai (mischief), because you are a ayash (man / husband) of dam (blood)!”

9 Then Abayashay (Abishai) the ban (son) of Tzarawayah (Zeruiah) amar (spoke) to the malak (king), “Why should this mawath (death) kalab (dog) qalal (curse) my Adawan () the malak (king)? Please let me ibar (pass over/through) over and sawar (take) off his raash (head).”

10 The malak (king) amar (spoke), “What have I to do with you, you banay (sons) of Tzarawayah (Zeruiah)? Because he qalal (curses), and because Yahawah () has amar (spoke) to him, ‘qalal (curse) Dawad (David);’ who then shall amar (spoke), ‘Why ishah (make) you done so?’”

11 Dawad (David) amar (spoke) to Abayashay (Abishai), and to all his ibad (servant), “Behold, my ban (son), who yatzaa (go out / come out) forth from my maih (bowels), baqash (seeks) my napash (soul). How much more this Banayamayanay (Benjamite), now? Leave him yanach (alone), and let him qalal (curse); for Yahawah () has invited him.

12 It may be that Yahawah () will raah (see) on the wrong done to me, and that Yahawah () will repay me tawab (good / proper function) for the qalalah (cursing) of me today.”

13 So Dawad (David) and his ayash (man / husband) yalak (went) by the darak (way); and Shamaiy (Shimei) halak (move) along on the hillside opposite him, and qalal (cursed) as he halak (move), saqal (threw) abanayam (stones) at him, and saqal (threw) ipar (dust).

14 The malak (king), and all the im (nation / people) who were with him, bawaa (bring) iyap (weary); and he napash (soul) himself there.

15 Abayashalawam (Absalom), and all the im (nation / people), the ayash (man / husband) of Yashar-Al (Israel), bawaa (bring) to Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem), and Achayathapal (Ahithophel) with him.

16 It happened, when Chawashay (Hushai) the arakay (archite), Dawad (David's) raih (friend), bawaa (bring) come to Abayashalawam (Absalom), that Chawashay (Hushai) amar (said) to Abayashalawam (Absalom), “Long chayah (live) the malak (king)! Long chayah (live) the malak (king)!”

17 Abayashalawam (Absalom) amar (said) to Chawashay (Hushai), “Is this your chasad (grace) to your rai (neigbor/another person)? Why didn't you halak (move) with your rai (neigbor/another person)?”

18 Chawashay (Hushai) amar (spoke) to Abayashalawam (Absalom), “No; but whomever Yahawah (), and this im (nation / people), and all the ayash (man / husband) of Yashar-Al (Israel) have bachar (chosen), his will I be, and with him I will stay.

19 Again, whom should I ibad (servant)? Shouldn't I panayam (face) in the presence of his ban (son)? As I have ibad (servant) in your ab (father) panayam (face), so will I be in your panayam (face).”

20 Then Abayashalawam (Absalom) amar (said) to Achayathapal (Ahithophel), “yahab (give) your itzah (counsel) what we shall ishah (make).”

21 Achayathapal (Ahithophel) amar (said) to Abayashalawam (Absalom), “bawaa (bring) in to your ab (father) palagashay (concubines), that he has yanach (left) to shamar (keep/guard) the bayath (house). Then all Yashar-Al (Israel) will shamai (hearken / hear) that you are baash (abhorred) by your ab (father). Then the yaday (hands) of all who are with you will be chazaq (strong).”

22 So they natah (spread) Abayashalawam (Absalom) a ahal (tent) on the gag (top) of the house; and Abayashalawam (Absalom) bawaa (bring) in to his ab (father) palagashay (concubines) in the iyan (eye) of all Yashar-Al (Israel).

23 The itzah (counsel) of Achayathapal (Ahithophel), which he yaitz (gave) in those yamayam (days), was as if a man inquired at the dabar (word / matter) of Alahayam (): so was all the itzah (counsel) of Achayathapal (Ahithophel) both with Dawad (David) and with Abayashalawam (Absalom).
