2 Samuel 8 — English–Hebrew Parallel

1 Achar (other) this it happened that Dawad (David) nakah (struck) the Palashathay (Philistines), and kanai (subdued) them: and Dawad (David) laqach (take / seize) the bridle of the mother city out of the yad (hand) of the Palashathay (Philistines).

2 He nakah (struck) Mawaab (Moab), and madad (measured) them with the chabal (line), making them to shakab (lie) down on the aratz (Earth/land); and he madad (measured) shanayam (two) chabalayam (lines) to put to mawath (death), and one malaa (full) chabal (line) to chayah (keep) alive. The Mawaab (Moabites) became ibadayam (servants) to Dawad (David), and nashaa (lift) tribute.

3 Dawad (David) nakah (struck) also Hadadaizar (Hadadezer) the ban (son) of Rachab (Rehob), malak (king) of Tzawabaa (Zobah), as he yalak (went) to shawab (turn) his yad (hand) at the nahar (river).

4 Dawad (David) lakad (took) from him one alap (thousand) shabai (seven) maah (hundred) horsemen, and isharayam (twenty) alap (thousand) footmen: and Dawad (David) hamstrung all the rakab (chariot) horses, but yathar (reserved) of them for one maah (hundred) rakab (chariots).

5 When the Aram (Syrians) of Damashaq (Damascus) bawaa (bring) to izar (help) Hadadaizar (Hadadezer) malak (king) of Tzawabaa (Zobah), Dawad (David) nakah (struck) of the Aram (Syrians) shanayam (two) and isharayam (twenty) alap (thousand) ayash (man / husband).

6 Then Dawad (David) shawam (place / establish / appoint) natzabayam (garrisons) in Aram (Syria) of Damashaq (Damascus); and the Aram (Syrians) became ibadayam (servants) to Dawad (David), and nashaa (lift) tribute. Yahawah () gave yashai (salvation) to Dawad (David) wherever he halak (move).

7 Dawad (David) laqach (take / seize) the shalatay (shields) of zahab (gold) that were on the ibaday (servant of) of Hadadaizar (Hadadezer), and bawaa (bring) them to Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem).

8 From Batach (Betah) and from Barawathah (Berothai), iray (cities) of Hadadaizar (Hadadezer), malak (king) Dawad (David) laqach (take / seize) maad (exceeding) much nachashath (brass).

9 When Thaiw (Toi) malak (king) of Chamath (Hamath) shamai (hearken / hear) that Dawad (David) had nakah (struck) all the chayal (army) of Hadadaizar (Hadadezer),

10 Then Thaiw (Toi) shalach (send) Yawaram (Joram) his ban (son) to malak (king) Dawad (David), to shaal (greet) him, and to barak (blessed) him, because he had lacham (fought) against Hadadaizar (Hadadezer) and nakah (struck) him: for Hadadaizar (Hadadezer) had wars with Thaiw (Toi). Joram brought with him kalay (vessels) of kasap (silver), and kalay (vessels) of zahab (gold), and kalay (vessels) of nachashath (brass):

11 Malak (king) Dawad (David) also qadash (set apart / make holy) these to Yahawah (), with the kasap (silver) and zahab (gold) that he qadash (set apart / make holy) of all the gawayam (nations) which he kabash (subdued);

12 Of Aram (Syria), and of Mawaab (Moab), and of the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon), and of the Palashathay (Philistines), and of Imalaq (Amalek), and of the shalal (spoil) of Hadadaizar (Hadadezer), ban (son) of Rachab (Rehob), malak (king) of Tzawabaa (Zobah).

13 Dawad (David) earned a reputation when he shawab (turn) from nakah (smiting) the Aram (Syrians) in the gayaa (valley) of malach (salt), even eighteen alap (thousand) men.

14 He shawam (place / establish / appoint) natzabayam (garrisons) in Adawam (Edom); throughout all Adawam (Edom) shawam (place / establish / appoint) he natzabayam (garrisons), and all the Adawam (Edomites) became ibadayam (servants) to Dawad (David). Yahawah () gave yashai (salvation) to Dawad (David) wherever he halak (move).

15 Dawad (David) malak (king) over all Yashar-Al (Israel); and Dawad (David) ishah (make) tzadaqah (righteousness) and mashapat (righteousness) to all his im (nation / people).

16 Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) the ban (son) of Tzarawayah (Zeruiah) was over the tzabaa (troop); and Yahawashapat (Jehoshaphat) the ban (son) of Achayalawad (Ahilud) was zakar (remember);

17 And Tzadawaq (Zadok) the ban (son) of Achayatawab (Ahitub), and Achayamalak (Ahimelech) the ban (son) of Abayathar (Abiathar), were kahanayam (priests); and Sharayah (Seraiah) was sapar (book);

18 And Banayah (Benaiah) the ban (son) of Yahawayadai (Jehoiada) was over the Karathay (Cherethites) and the Palathay (Pelethites); and Dawad (David's) banay (my son) were kahan (priest) ministers.
