Deuteronomy 9 — English–Hebrew Parallel

Shamai (hearken / hear), Yashar-Al (Israel): you are to ibar (pass over/through) over the Yaradan (Jordan) this yawam (day), to bawaa (bring) in to yarash (dispossess) gawayam (heathen) greater and mightier than yourself, irayam (cities) gadawal (very great/important/mighty) and batzar (fortified) up to the sky,

A im (nation / people) gadawal (very great/important/mighty) and rawam (will lift up), the banay (my son) of the inaqay (anakim), whom you yadai (know), and of whom you have shamai (hearken / hear) say, “Who yatzab (can) stand panayam (face) the banay (my son) of Inaq (Anak)?”

Yadai (know) therefore this yawam (day), that Yahawah () your Alahayam () is he who ibar (pass over/through) over panayam (face) you as a akal (eat) ash (fire); he will shamad (destroy) them, and he will kanai (bring) them down panayam (face) you: so you shall yarash (drive) them out, and make them to abad (destroy / perish) mahar (quickly), as Yahawah () has dabar (word / matter) to you.

Don't amar (spoke) in your labab (heart), after Yahawah () your Alahayam () has hadap (thrust) them out from panayam (face) you, amar (spoke), “For my tzadaqah (righteousness) Yahawah () bawaa (come) brought me in to yarash (possess) this aratz (Earth/land);” because Yahawah () yarash (drives) them out panayam (face) you because of the rashaih (wickedness) of these gawayam (nations).

Not for your tzadaqah (righteousness), or for the yashar (upright) of your labab (heart), do you bawaa (come) in to yarash (possess) their aratz (Earth/land); but for the rashaih (wickedness) of these gawayam (nations) Yahawah () your Alahayam () does yarash (drive) them out from panayam (face) you, and that he may qawam (rise up) the dabar (word / matter) which Yahawah () shabai (swear / take oath) to your ab (father), to Abaraham (Abraham), to Yatzachaq (Isaac), and to Yaiqab (Jacob).

Yadai (know) therefore, that Yahawah () your Alahayam () doesn't nathan (give) you this tawab (good / proper function) aratz (Earth/land) to yarash (possess) it for your tzadaqah (righteousness); for you are a irap (neck) im (nation / people).

Zakar (remember), don't shakach (forget), how you provoked Yahawah () your Alahayam () to qatzap (wrath) in the madabar (wilderness): from the yawam (day) that you yatzaa (go out / come out) forth out of the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Egypt), until you bawaa (come) to this maqawam (place), you have been rebellious im (with) Yahawah ().

Also in Charab (Horeb) you provoked Yahawah () to qatzap (wrath), and Yahawah () was anap (angry) with you to shamad (destroy) you.

When I was ilah (go up / offer) up onto the har (mountain) to laqach (take / seize) the lawachath (tables) of aban (stone), even the lawachath (tables) of the barayath (covenant) which Yahawah () karath (cut) with you, then I stayed on the har (mountain) arabaiyam (forty) yawam (day) and arabaiyam (forty) layal (nights); I neither akal (eat) lacham (bread) nor shathah (drinks) mayam (Waters).

Yahawah () nathan (give) to me the shanayam (two) lawachath (tables) of aban (stone) kathab (write) with the atzabai (finger) of Alahayam (); and on them were all the dabarayam (words) which Yahawah () dabar (word / matter) with you on the har (mountain) out of the thawak (midst) of the ash (fire) in the yawam (day) of the qahal (assembly).

It came to pass at the qatz (end) of arabaiyam (forty) yawam (day) and arabaiyam (forty) layal (nights), that Yahawah () nathan (give) me the shanayam (two) lachath (tables) of aban (stone), even the lachath (tables) of the barayath (covenant).

Yahawah () amar (spoke) to me, “qawam (rise up), yarad (get) down mahar (quickly) from here; for your im (nation / people) whom you yatzaa (go out / come out) brought out of Matzarayam (Egypt) have shachath (corrupted) themselves; they have mahar (quickly) sawar (turned) aside out of the darak (way) which I tzawah (commanded) them; they ishah (make) made them a masakah (molten) image.”

Furthermore Yahawah () amar (spoke) to me, amar (spoke), “I raah (see) seen this im (nation / people), and behold, it is a irap (neck) im (nation / people):

Let me rapah (alone), that I may shamad (destroy) them, and machah (blot) out their sham (name) from under the sky; and I will ishah (make) of you a gaway (heathen / nation) mightier and greater than they.”

So I panah (turn) and yarad (came) down from the har (mountain), and the har (mountain) was bair (burning) with ash (fire): and the shanayam (two) lachath (tables) of the barayath (covenant) were in my shanayam (two) yad (hand).

I raah (see), and behold, you had chataa (sinned) against Yahawah () your Alahayam (); you ishah (make) made yourselves a masakah (molten) igal (calf): you had sawar (turned) aside mahar (quickly) out of the darak (way) which Yahawah () had tzawah (commanded) you.

I thapash (took) hold of the shanayam (two) lachath (tables), and shalak (cast) them out of my shanayam (two) yad (hand), and shabar (broke) them before your iyan (eye).

I napal (fall / be cast down) down panayam (face) Yahawah (), as at the raashawan (first), arabaiyam (forty) yawam (day) and arabaiyam (forty) layal (nights); I neither akal (eat) lacham (bread) nor shathah (drinks) mayam (Waters); because of all your chataah (sin) which you chataa (sinned), in ishah (make) that which was rai (evil) in the iyan (eye) of Yahawah (), to provoke him to kais (anger).

For I was yagar (afraid) of the ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) and chamah (hot) displeasure, with which Yahawah () was qatzap (angry) against you to shamad (destroy) you. But Yahawah () shamai (hearken / hear) to me that paim (time) also.

Yahawah () was very anap (angry) with Aharawan (Aaron) to shamad (destroy) him: and I palal (prayed) for Aharawan (Aaron) also at the same ith (time).

I laqach (take / seize) your chataah (sin), the igal (calf) which you ishah (make) made, and burnt it with ash (fire), and kathath (stamped) it, tachan (grinding) it very yatab (small), until it was as fine as ipar (dust): and I shalak (cast) its ipar (dust) into the nachal (stream / river) that descended out of the har (mountain).

At Thabairah (Taberah), and at Masah (Massah), and at Qabarawathahathaawah (Kibroth Hattaavah), you provoked Yahawah () to qatzap (wrath).

When Yahawah () shalach (send) you from Qadash-Baranai (Kadesh Barnea), amar (spoke), “ilah (go up / offer) up and yarash (possess) the aratz (Earth/land) which I nathan (give) given you;” then you marah (rebelled) against the commandment of Yahawah () your Alahayam (), and you didn't aman (believe / have faith) him, nor shamai (hearken / hear) to his qawal (sound / voice).

You have been rebellious against Yahawah () from the yawam (day) that I yadai (knew) you.

So I napal (fall / be cast down) down panayam (face) Yahawah () the arabaiyam (forty) yawam (day) and arabaiyam (forty) layal (nights) that I napal (fall / be cast down) down, because Yahawah () had amar (spoke) he would shamad (destroy) you.

I palal (prayed) to Yahawah (), and amar (spoke), “Adawan () Yahawah (), don't shachath (destroy) your im (nation / people) and your nachalah (inheritance), that you have padah (redeemed) through your gadal (greatness), that you yatzaa (go out / come out) brought out of Matzarayam (Egypt) with a chazaq (mighty) yad (hand).

Zakar (remember) your ibad (servant), Abaraham (Abraham - Patriarch), Yatzachaq (Isaac), and Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch); don't panah (turn) to the qashay (stubbornness) of this im (nation / people), nor to their rashai (wickedness), nor to their chataah (sin),

Lest the aratz (Earth/land) you yatzaa (go out / come out) us out from amar (spoke), ‘Because Yahawah () was not yakal (able) to bawaa (come) them into the aratz (Earth/land) which he dabar (word / matter) to them, and because he shanaah (hated) them, he yatzaa (go out / come out) brought them out to mawath (death) them in the madabar (wilderness).’

Yet they are your im (nation / people) and your nachalah (inheritance), which you yatzaa (go out / come out) out by your gadawal (very great/important/mighty) kach (strength / mighty / power) and by your natah (outstretched) zarawai (arm).”
