Exodus 16 — English–Hebrew Parallel

They took their nasai (journey) from Ayalam (Elim), and all the idah (congregation) of the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel) bawaa (bring) to the madabar (wilderness) of sayan (sin), which is between Ayalam (Elim) and Sayanay (Sinai), on the fifteenth yawam (day) of the shanay (second) chadash (month) yatzaa (go out / come out) their departing out of the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt).

The whole idah (congregation) of the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel) lawan (murmured) against Mashah (Moses) and against Aharawan (Aaron) in the madabar (wilderness);

And the banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel) amar (spoke) to them, “We wish that we had mawath (death) by the yad (hand) of Yahawah () in the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Egypt), when we yashab (inhabit/dwell) by the meat sayar (pots), when we akal (eat) our shabai (fill) of lacham (bread), for you yatzaa (go out / come out) brought us out into this madabar (wilderness), to mawath (death) this whole qahal (assembly) with raib (hunger).”

Then Yahawah () amar (spoke) to Mashah (Moses), “Behold, I will matar (rain) lacham (bread) from the sky for you, and the im (nation / people) shall yatzaa (go out / come out) out and laqat (gather) a day's dabar (word / matter) every yawam (day), that I may test them, whether they will yalak (walk) in my thawarah (instruction), or not.

It shall come to pass on the shashay (sixth) yawam (day), that they shall kawan (prepare) that which they bawaa (bring) in, and it shall be mashanah (twice) as much as they laqat (gather) yawam (day).”

Mashah (Moses) and Aharawan (Aaron) amar (spoke) to all the banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel), “At irab (evening), then you shall yadai (know) that Yahawah () yatzaa (go out / come out) brought you out from the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Egypt);

And in the baqar (morning), then you shall raah (see) the kabawad (glory) of Yahawah (); because he shamai (hearken / hear) your thalawanah (murmurings) against Yahawah (). Who are we, that you lawan (murmur) against us?”

Mashah (Moses) amar (spoke), “Now Yahawah () shall nathan (give) you meat to akal (eat) in the irab (evening), and in the baqar (morning) lacham (bread) to shabai (satisfy) you; because Yahawah () shamai (hearken / hear) your malayanam (murmurings) which you murmur against him. And who are we? Your malayanam (murmurings) are not against us, but against Yahawah ().”

Mashah (Moses) amar (spoke) to Aharawan (Aaron), “amar (spoke) all the idah (congregation) of the banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel), ‘qarab (come close) near panayam (face) Yahawah (), for he has shamai (hearken / hear) your thalawanah (murmurings).’”

It happened, as Aharawan (Aaron) dabar (word / matter) to the whole idah (congregation) of the banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel), that they panah (turn) toward the madabar (wilderness), and behold, the kabawad (glory) of Yahawah () raah (see) in the inan (cloud).

Yahawah () dabar (word / matter) to Mashah (Moses), amar (spoke),

“I have shamai (hearken / hear) the thalawanath (murmurings) of the banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel). Dabar (word / matter) to them, amar (spoke), ‘At evening you shall akal (eat) meat, and in the baqar (morning) you shall be shabai (filled) with lacham (bread): and you shall yadai (know) that I am Yahawah () your Alahayam ().’”

It happened at irab (evening) that shalaw (quail) ilah (go up / offer) up and kasah (covered) the machanah (camp); and in the baqar (morning) the tal (dew) shakabah (lay) around the machanah (camp).

When the tal (dew) that shakabah (lay) had ilah (go up / offer), behold, on the surface of the madabar (wilderness) was a daq (small) chasapas (round) thing, daq (small) as the kapawar (frost) on the aratz (Earth/land).

When the banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel) raah (see) it, they amar (spoke) ayash (man / husband) to ach (brother/kinsman), “What is it?” For they didn't yadai (know) what it was. Mashah (Moses) amar (spoke) to them, “It is the lacham (bread) which Yahawah () nathan (give) given you to akalah (eat).

“This is the thing which Yahawah () has tzawah (commanded): ‘laqat (gather) of it everyone pah (according) to his akal (eating); an imar (omer) a galagalath (head), according to the masapar (number) of your napash (soul), you shall laqach (take / seize) it, every ayash (man / husband) for those who are in his ahal (tent).’”

The banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel) ishah (make) so, and laqat (gathered) some more, some mait (less).

When they madad (measured) it with an imar (omer), he who rabah (gathered) much had nothing over, and he who mait (gathered) little had no chasar (lack). They laqat (gathered) every ayash (man / husband) pah (according) to his akal (eating).

Mashah (Moses) amar (said) to them, “Let no ayash (man / husband) yathar (leave) of it until the baqar (morning).”

Notwithstanding they didn't shamai (hearken / hear) to Mashah (Moses), but some of them yathar (left) of it until the baqar (morning), and it bred thawalaiyam (worms), and became foul: and Mashah (Moses) was qatzap (angry) with them.

They laqat (gathered) it baqar (morning) by morning, everyone pah (according) to his akal (eating). When the shamash (sun) grew chamam (hot), it masas (melted).

It happened that on the shashay (sixth) yawam (day) they laqat (gathered) mashanah (twice) as much lacham (bread), shanayam (two) imar (omers) for achad (one) one, and all the nashayaay (rulers) of the idah (congregation) bawaa (bring) and nagad (told) Mashah (Moses).

He amar (spoke) to them, “This is that which Yahawah () has dabar (word / matter), ‘machar (tomorrow) is a solemn shabathawan (rest), a qadash (set apart / make holy) shabath (shabath / rest) to Yahawah (). Apah (bake) that which you want to apah (bake), and bashal (boil) that which you want to bashal (boil); and kal (every) that idap (remains) over yanach (lay) up for yourselves to be mashamarath (duty / watch) until the baqar (morning).’”

They yanach (laid) it up until the baqar (morning), as Mashah (Moses) asked, and it didn't become foul, neither was there any ramah (worm) in it.

Mashah (Moses) amar (spoke), “akal (eat) that today, for today is a shabath (shabath / rest) to Yahawah (). Today you shall not matzaa (find) it in the shadah (field).

Shash (six) yamayam (days) you shall laqat (gather) it, but on the shabayaiy (seventh) yawam (day) is the shabath (shabath / rest). In it there shall be none.”

It happened on the shabayaiy (seventh) yawam (day), that some of the im (nation / people) yatzaa (go out / come out) out to laqat (gather), and they matzaa (found) none.

Yahawah () amar (spoke) to Mashah (Moses), “How long do you maan (refuse) to shamar (keep/guard) my matzawah (commandments) and my thawarah (instruction)?

Raah (see), because Yahawah () nathan (give) given you the shabath (shabath / rest), therefore he nathan (give) you on the shashay (sixth) yawam (day) the lacham (bread) of yawam (day) days. Everyone stay in his place. Let no ayash (man / husband) yatzaa (go out / come out) out of his maqawam (place) on the shabayaiy (seventh) yawam (day).”

So the im (nation / people) shabath (shabath / rest) on the shabayaiy (seventh) yawam (day).

The bayath (house) of Yashar-Al (Israel) qaraa (called) its sham (name) “man (from)”, and it was like gad (coriander) zarai (seed), laban (white); and its taim (taste) was like tzapayachath (wafers) with dabash (honey).

Mashah (Moses) amar (spoke), “This is the thing which Yahawah () has tzawah (commanded), ‘Let an omer-full of it be mashamarath (duty / watch) throughout your dawar (generation / age / period), that they may raah (see) the lacham (bread) with which I akal (eat) you in the madabar (wilderness), when I yatzaa (go out / come out) you forth from the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Egypt).’”

Mashah (Moses) amar (spoke) to Aharawan (Aaron), “laqach (take / seize) a tzanatzanath (pot), and nathan (give) an omer-full of man (from) in it, and yanach (lay) it up panayam (face) Yahawah (), to be mashamarath (duty / watch) throughout your dawar (generation / age / period).”

As Yahawah () tzawah (commanded) Mashah (Moses), so Aharawan (Aaron) yanach (laid) it up panayam (face) the idawath (testimony), to be mashamarath (duty / watch).

The banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel) akal (eat) the man (from) arabaiyam (forty) shanah (years), until they bawaa (bring) to an yashab (inhabit/dwell) aratz (Earth/land). They akal (eat) the man (from) until they bawaa (bring) to the qatzah (end / extremity / border) of the aratz (Earth/land) of Kanain (Canaan).

Now an imar (omer) is the ishayaray (tenth) part of an ayapah (ephah).
