Ezekiel 17 — English–Hebrew Parallel

The dabar (word / matter) of Yahawah () came to me, amar (spoke),

“Ban (son) of adam (man), chawad (put) forth a chayadah (riddle), and mashal (speak in proverb/parable) a mashal (parable) to the bayath (house) of Yashar-Al (Israel);

And amar (spoke), ‘Thus amar (spoke) the Adanay () Yahawah (): “A gadawal (very great/important/mighty) nashar (eagle) with gadawal (very great/important/mighty) kanapayam (wings) and long feathers, malaa (full) of nawatzah (feathers), which had various colors, bawaa (come) to Labanawan (Lebanon), and laqach (take / seize) the tzamarath (top) of the araz (cedar):

He qatap (cropped) off the topmost of the yanayaqah (young) twigs of it, and bawaa (bring) it to a aratz (Earth/land) of Kanain (traffic); he shawam (place / establish / appoint) it in a iyar (city) of rakalayam (merchants).

“‘“He laqach (take / seize) also of the zarai (seed) of the aratz (Earth/land), and planted it in a zarai (fruitful) shadah (soil); he laqach (take / seize) it beside many mayam (Waters); he shawam (place / establish / appoint) it as a tzapatzapah (willow) tree.

It tzamach (grew), and became a sarach (spreading) gapan (vine) of shapal (low) qawamah (stature), whose branches panah (turn) toward him, and its sharash (roots) were under him: so it became a gapan (vine), and ishah (make) forth branches, and shalach (send) forth paarawath (sprigs).

“‘“There was also another gadawal (very great/important/mighty) nashar (eagle) with gadawal (very great/important/mighty) kanapayam (wings) and many nawatzah (feathers): and behold, this gapan (vine) bent its sharash (roots) toward him, and shalach (send) forth its branches toward him, from the iragawath (beds) of its plantation, that he might shaqah (water) it.

It was shathal (planted) in a tawab (good / proper function) shadah (soil) by many mayam (Waters), that it might ishah (make) forth branches, and that it might nashaa (lift) paray (fruit), that it might be a adarath (goodly) gapan (vine).”’

“Amar (spoke), ‘Thus amar (spoke) the Adanay () Yahawah (): “Shall it tzalach (prosper)? Shall he not nathaq (pull) up its sharash (roots), and qasas (cut) off its paray (fruit), that it may yabash (dry land); that all its fresh tzamach (springing) leaves may yabash (dry land)? And not by a strong zarawai (arm) or many im (nation / people) can it be nashaa (lift) from its sharash (roots).

Yes, behold, being shathal (planted), shall it tzalach (prosper)? Shall it not yabash (dry land) yabash (dry land), when the qadayam (east) rawach (spirit / wind) touches it? It shall yabash (dry land) in the iragath (beds) where it tzamach (grew).”’”

Moreover the dabar (word / matter) of Yahawah () came to me, amar (spoke),

“Amar (said) now to the rebellious bayath (house), ‘Don't you yadai (know) what these things mean?’ Amar (said) them, ‘Behold, the malak (king) of Babal (Babylon) bawaa (bring) to Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem), and laqach (take / seize) its malak (king), and its shar (prince / ruler), and bawaa (bring) them to him to Babal (Babylon):

And he laqach (take / seize) of the zarai (seed) malawakah (royal), and karath (cut) a barayath (covenant) with him; he also bawaa (bring) him under an alah (these), and bawaa (bring) away the ayal (mighty) of the aratz (Earth/land);

That the mamalakah (kingdom) might be shapal (base), that it might not nashaa (lift) itself up, but that by shamar (keep/guard) his barayath (covenant) it might imad (stand).

But he marad (rebelled) against him in shalach (send) his malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) into Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt), that they might nathan (give) him sawasayam (horses) and many im (nation / people). Shall he tzalach (prosper)? Shall he malat (escape) who ishah (make) such things? Shall he parar (break) the barayath (covenant), and yet malat (escape)?

“‘As I chay (life),’ naam (declares prophetically) the Adanay () Yahawah (), ‘surely in the maqawam (place) where the malak (king) dwells who made him malak (king), whose alah (curse / oath) he bazah (despised), and whose barayath (covenant) he parar (broke), even with him in the thawak (midst) of Babal (Babylon) he shall mawath (death).

Neither shall Paraih (Pharaoh) with his gadawal (very great/important/mighty) chayal (wealth / substance / capability / valor) and rab (great) qahal (company) help him in the malachamah (war), when they shapak (cast) up mounds and banah (build) dayaq (forts), to karath (cut) off many napashawath (persons).

For he has bazah (despised) the alah (these) by parar (breaking) the barayath (covenant); and behold, he nathan (give) given his yad (hand), and yet ishah (make) done all these things; he shall not malat (escape).

“Therefore thus amar (spoke) the Adanay () Yahawah (): ‘As I chay (life), surely my alah (curse / oath) that he has bazah (despised), and my barayath (covenant) that he has pawar (broken), I will even nathan (give) it on his own raash (head).

I will parash (spread) my rashath (net) on him, and he shall be thapash (taken) in my matzawad (snare), and I will bawaa (bring) him to Babal (Babylon), and will enter into shapat (judge / judgement) with him there for his mail (top/above) that he has mail (top/above) against me.

All his mabarach (fugitives) in all his agap (bands) shall napal (fall / be cast down) by the charab (sword), and those who shaar (remain) shall be parash (scattered) toward every rawach (spirit / wind): and you shall yadai (know) that I, Yahawah (), have dabar (word / matter) it.’

“Thus amar (spoke) the Adanay () Yahawah (): ‘I will also laqach (take / seize) of the rawam (will lift up) tzamarath (top) of the araz (cedar), and will nathan (give) it; I will qatap (crop) off from the topmost of its yawanaqath (young) twigs a rak (tender) one, and I will shathal (plant) it on a gabah (high) and lofty har (mountain):

In the har (mountain) of the marawam (height) of Yashar-Al (Israel) will I shathal (plant) it; and it shall nashaa (lift) forth inap (boughs), and ishah (make) paray (fruit), and be a adayar (goodly) araz (cedar): and under it shall shakan (place) all tzapawar (birds) of every kanap (wing); in the tzal (shade) of its branches shall they shakan (place).

All the itzay (trees) of the shadah (field) shall yadai (know) that I, Yahawah (), have shapal (brought) down the gabah (high) itz (tree), have gabah (exalted) the shapal (low) itz (tree), have yabash (dry land) up the lach (green) itz (tree), and have made the yabash (dry land) itz (tree) to parach (flourish); “‘I, Yahawah (), have dabar (word / matter) and ishah (make) done it.’”
