Ezra 9 — English–Hebrew Parallel

Now when these things were kalah (complete / finish), the sharayam (princes) nagash (drew) near to me, amar (said), “The imay (people) of Yashar-Al (Israel), and the kahanayam (priests) and the Lawayay (Levites), have not badal (separated) themselves from the imay (peoples) of the aratzawath (lands), following their thawaibah (abominations), even those of the Kanainay (Canaanite), the Chathay (Hittites), the Parazay (Perizzites), the Yabawasay (Jebusites), the Imawanay (Ammonites), the Mawaabay (Moabites), the Matzaray (Egyptians), and the Amaray (Amaray / Amorite).

For they have nashaa (lift) of their banath (daughter) for themselves and for their ban (son), so that the qadash (set apart / make holy) zarai (seed) have mixed themselves with the imay (peoples) of the aratzawath (lands). Yes, the yad (hand) of the sharayam (princes) and saganayam (rulers) has been chief in this mail (top/above).”

When I shamai (hearken / hear) this thing, I qarai (tore) my bagad (garment) and my bagad (robe), and marat (plucked) off the shair (hair) of my raash (head) and of my zaqan (beard), and yashab (inhabit/dwell) down confounded.

Then were asap (assembled) to me everyone who trembled at the dabaray (words) of the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel), because of their mail (top/above) of the gawalah (captivity); and I yashab (inhabit/dwell) confounded until the irab (evening) manachah (offering).

At the irab (evening) manachah (offering) I qawam (rise up) up from my humiliation, even with my bagad (garment) and my bagad (robe) qarai (torn); and I karai (fell) on my barak (blessed), and parash (spread) out my kap (hands) to Yahawah () my Alahayam ();

And I amar (spoke), “My Alahayam (), I am bawash (ashamed) and kalam (blush) to rawam (will lift up) up my panayam (face) to you, my Alahayam (); for our iwan (guilt/iniquity) rabah (have) increased over our raash (head), and our guiltiness has gadal (grown) up to the shamayam (Shamayam / Heavens).

Since the yamay (days) of our ab (father) we have been gadawal (very great/important/mighty) guilty to this yawam (day); and for our iwan (guilt/iniquity) we, our malakay (kings), and our kahan (priest), nathan (give) been delivered into the yad (hand) of the malakay (kings) of the aratzawath (lands), to the charab (sword), to shabay (captivity), to plunder, and to bashath (confusion) of panayam (face), as it is this yawam (day).

Now for a mait (little) ragai (in an instance) thachanah (grace) has been shown from Yahawah () our Alahayam (), to shaar (leave) us a palayatah (remnant) to escape, and to nathan (give) us a yathad (nail) in his qadash (set apart / make holy) maqawam (place), that our Alahayam () may lighten our iyan (eye), and nathan (give) us a mait (little) machayah (reviving) in our ibadawath (bondage).

For we are ibadayam (bondservants); yet our Alahayam () has not forsaken us in our ibadawath (bondage), but has natah (extended) loving chasad (grace) to us in the panayam (face) of the malakay (kings) of Paras (Persia), to nathan (give) us a machayah (reviving), to rawam (will lift up) up the bayath (house) of our Alahayam (), and to imad (repair) its ruins, and to nathan (give) us a gadar (wall) in Yahawadah (Judah) and in Yarawashalam (Jerusalem).

“Now, our Alahayam (), what shall we amar (spoke) achar (other) this? For we have forsaken your matzawah (commandments),

Which you have tzawah (commanded) by your ibad (servant) the nabayaayam (prophets), amar (said), ‘The aratz (Earth/land), to which you bawaa (bring) to yarash (possess) it, is an nadah (unclean) aratz (Earth/land) through the uncleanness of the imay (peoples) of the aratzawath (lands), through their thawaibah (abominations), which malaa (have) filled it from one pah (end) to another with their tamaah (filthiness).

Now therefore don't nathan (give) your banath (daughter) to their ban (son), neither nashaa (lift) their banath (daughter) to your ban (son), nor darash (seek) their shalawam (peace / safety) or their tawab (good / proper function) iwalam (eternity); that you may be chazaq (strong), and akal (eat) the tawab (good / proper function) of the aratz (Earth/land), and yarash (leave) it for an inheritance to your ban (son) iwalam (eternity).’

“Achar (other) all that bawaa (come) come on us for our rai (evil) maishah (deeds), and for our gadawal (very great/important/mighty) ashamah (guilt), since you, our Alahayam (), have chashak (darkness) us matah (less) than our iwan (guilt/iniquity) deserve, and nathan (give) given us such a palayatah (remnant),

Shall we again parar (break) your matzawah (commandments), and chathan (join) in affinity with the imay (peoples) that do these thaibawath (abominations)? Wouldn't you be anap (angry) with us until you kalah (complete / finish) consumed us, so that there should be no shaarayath (remnant), nor any to palayatah (escape)?

Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel), you are tzadayaq (righteous); for we are left a shaar (remnant) that has palayatah (escaped), as it is this yawam (day). Behold, we are panayam (face) you in our guiltiness; for none can imad (stand) panayam (face) you because of this.”
