Genesis 21 — English–Hebrew Parallel

Yahawah () paqad (visit) Sharah (Sarah) as he had amar (spoke), and Yahawah () ishah (make) to Sharah (Sarah) as he had dabar (word / matter).

Sharah (Sarah) harah (conceived), and yalad (birth / begot) Abaraham (Abraham) a ban (son) in his zaqan (old) age, at the mawaid (Feast/Holy Day) time of which Alahayam () had dabar (word / matter) to him.

Abaraham (Abraham - Patriarch) qaraa (called) his ban (son) who was yalad (birth / begot) to him, whom Sharah (Sarah) yalad (birth / begot) to him, Yatzachaq (Isaac).

Abaraham (Abraham) mawal (circumcised) his ban (son), Yatzachaq (Isaac), when he was shamanah (eight) yamayam (days) ban (son), as Alahayam () had tzawah (commanded) him.

Abaraham (Abraham - Patriarch) was one maah (hundred) shanah (years) ban (son) when his ban (son), Yatzachaq (Isaac), was yalad (birth / begot) to him.

Sharah (Sarah) amar (spoke), “Alahayam () ishah (make) made me tzachaq (laugh). Everyone who shamai (hearken / hear) will tzachaq (laugh) with me.”

She malal (said), “Who would have malal (said) to Abaraham (Abraham - Patriarch), that Sharah (Sarah) would yanaq (nurse) banayam (children)? For I have yalad (birth / begot) him a ban (son) in his zaqan (old) age.”

The yalad (birth / begot) gadal (grew), and was weaned. Abaraham (Abraham - Patriarch) ishah (make) a gadawal (very great/important/mighty) mashathah (feast) on the yawam (day) that Yatzachaq (Isaac) was weaned.

Sharah (Sarah) raah (see / saw) the ban (son) of Hagar (Hagar) the Matzaray (Egyptian), whom she had yalad (birth / begot) to Abaraham (Abraham - Patriarch), tzachaq (mocking).

Therefore she amar (said) to Abaraham (Abraham - Patriarch), “garash (cast) out this handmaid and her ban (son)! For the ban (son) of this handmaid will not be heir with my ban (son), Yatzachaq (Isaac).”

The thing was very grievous in Abaraham (Abraham - Patriarch) iyan (eye) on account of his ban (son).

Alahayam () amar (spoke) to Abaraham (Abraham), “Don't let it be grievous in your iyan (eye) because of the nair (boy), and because of your handmaid. In all that Sharah (Sarah) amar (spoke) to you, shamai (hearken / hear) to her qawal (sound / voice). For from Yatzachaq (Isaac) will your zarai (seed) be qaraa (called).

I will also shawam (place / establish / appoint) a gaway (heathen / nation) of the ban (son) of the handmaid, because he is your zarai (seed).”

Abaraham (Abraham - Patriarch) shakam (rose) up early in the baqar (morning), and laqach (take / seize) lacham (bread) and a chamath (bottle) of mayam (Waters), and nathan (give) it to Hagar (Hagar), shawam (place / establish / appoint) it on her shakam (shoulder); and gave her the yalad (birth / begot), and shalach (send) her away. She departed, and thaih (wandered) in the madabar (wilderness) of Baar-Shabai (Beersheba).

The mayam (Waters) in the chamath (bottle) was kalah (complete / finish), and she shalak (cast) the yalad (birth / begot) under achad (one) of the shayacham (shrubs).

She yalak (went) and yashab (inhabit/dwell) down opposite him, a rachaq (good) way off, about a bow tachah (shot) away. For she amar (said), “Don't raah (see / saw) me see the mawath (death) of the yalad (birth / begot).” She yashab (inhabit/dwell) over against him, and nashaa (lift) up her qawal (sound / voice), and bakah (wept).

Alahayam () shamai (hearken / hear) the qawal (sound / voice) of the nair (boy). The malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) of Alahayam () qaraa (called) to Hagar (Hagar) out of the sky, and amar (spoke) to her, “What ails you, Hagar (Hagar)? Don't be afraid. For Alahayam () has shamai (hearken / hear) the qawal (sound / voice) of the nair (boy) where he is.

Get up, nashaa (lift) up the nair (boy), and chazaq (hold) him in your yad (hand). For I will shawam (place / establish / appoint) him a gadawal (very great/important/mighty) gaway (heathen / nation).”

Alahayam () paqach (opened) her iyan (eye), and she raah (see) a baar (well) of mayam (Waters). She yalak (went), malaa (filled) the chamath (bottle) with mayam (Waters), and shaqah (gave) the nair (boy) shaqah (drink).

Alahayam () was with the nair (boy), and he gadal (grew). He lived in the madabar (wilderness), and became, as he rabah (grew) up, an archer.

He lived in the madabar (wilderness) of Paaran (Paran). His am (mother) laqach (take / seize) a ayashah (woman / wife) for him out of the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt).

It happened at that ith (time), that Abayamalak (Abimelech) and Payakal (Phicol) the shar (prince / ruler) of his tzabaa (troop) amar (spoke) to Abaraham (Abraham), amar (spoke), “Alahayam () is with you in all that you ishah (make).

Now, therefore, shabai (swear / take oath) to me here by Alahayam () that you will not shaqar (deal) falsely with me, nor with my nayan (son), nor with my nakad (son's) son. But according to the chasad (grace) that I ishah (make) done to you, you shall ishah (make) to me, and to the aratz (Earth/land) in which you have lived as a foreigner.”

Abaraham (Abraham - Patriarch) amar (said), “I will shabai (swear / take oath).”

Abaraham (Abraham - Patriarch) complained to Abayamalak (Abimelech) awadawath (because) of a mayam (Waters) baar (well), which Abayamalak (Abimelech's) ibaday (servant of) had violently gazal (taken) away.

Abayamalak (Abimelech) amar (said), “I don't yadai (know) who ishah (make) done this thing. You didn't nagad (tell) me, laa (NOT) did I shamai (hearken / hear) of it, until today.”

Abaraham (Abraham - Patriarch) laqach (take / seize) tzaan (sheep) and cattle, and nathan (give) them to Abayamalak (Abimelech). Those two karath (cut) a barayath (covenant).

Abaraham (Abraham - Patriarch) natzab (set) shabai (seven) ewe kabashath (lambs) of the tzaan (flock) by themselves.

Abayamalak (Abimelech) amar (said) to Abaraham (Abraham - Patriarch), “What do these shabai (seven) ewe kabashath (lambs) which you have natzab (set) by themselves mean?”

He amar (said), “You shall laqach (take / seize) these shabai (seven) ewe kabashath (lambs) from my yad (hand), that it may be a idah (witness) to me, that I have chapar (dug) this baar (well).”

Therefore he qaraa (called) that maqawam (place) Baar-Shabai (Beersheba), because they both shabai (swear / take oath) there.

So they karath (cut) a barayath (covenant) at Baar-Shabai (Beersheba). Abayamalak (Abimelech) qawam (rise up) up with Payakal (Phicol), the shar (prince / ruler) of his tzabaa (troop), and they shawab (turn) into the aratz (Earth/land) of the Palashathay (Philistines).

Abaraham (Abraham) natai (planted) a tamarisk ashal (tree) in Baar-Shabai (Beersheba), and qaraa (called) there on the sham (name) of Yahawah (), the iwalam (forever) Al.

Abaraham (Abraham - Patriarch) lived as a foreigner in the aratz (Earth/land) of the Palashathay (Philistines) many yamayam (days).
