Genesis 43 — English–Hebrew Parallel

The famine was severe in the aratz (Earth/land).

It happened, when they kalah (complete / finish) eaten up the grain which they bawaa (bring) brought out of Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt), their ab (father) amar (said) to them, “shawab (turn) again, shabar (buy) us a mait (little) more akal (food).”

Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) amar (said) to him, amar (said), “The ayash (man / husband) iwad (admonish/bear witness against) warned us, amar (said), ‘You shall not raah (see / saw) my panayam (face), unless your ach (brother/kinsman) is with you.’

If you'll shalach (send) our ach (brother/kinsman) with us, we'll yarad (go) down and shabar (buy) you akal (food),

But if you'll not shalach (send) him, we'll not yarad (go) down, for the ayash (man / husband) amar (said) to us, ‘You shall not raah (see / saw) my panayam (face), unless your ach (brother/kinsman) is with you.’”

Yashar-Al (Israel) amar (said), “Why raii (wicked / dysfunctional / evil) you treat me so badly, nagad (telling) the ayash (man / husband) that you had another ach (brother/kinsman)?”

They amar (said), “The ayash (man / husband) shaal (asked) directly concerning ourselves, and concerning our relatives, amar (said), ‘Is your ab (father) still chay (life)? Yash (have) you another ach (brother/kinsman)?’ We just answered his dabarayam (questions). Is there any way we yadai (could) yadai (know) that he would amar (said), ‘yarad (bring) your ach (brother/kinsman) down?’”

Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) amar (said) to Yashar-Al (Israel), his ab (father), “shalach (send) the nair (boy) with me, and we'll qawam (rise up) up and yalak (go), so that we may chayah (live), and not mawath (death), both we, and you, and also our little tap (ones).

I'll be collateral for him. From my yad (hand) will you baqash (require) him. If I don't bawaa (bring) him to you, and yatzag (set) him panayam (face) you, then let me chataa (bear) the blame forever,

For if we hadn't mahah (delayed), shawab (turn) we would have returned a paim (second) time by now.”

Their ab (father), Yashar-Al (Israel), amar (said) to them, “If it must be so, then ishah (make) this. Laqach (take / seize) from the choice zamarah (fruits) of the aratz (Earth/land) in your kalay (bags), and yarad (carry) down a manachah (present) for the ayash (man / husband), a mait (little) tzaray (balm), a mait (little) dabash (honey), nakaath (spices) and lat (myrrh), batanayam (nuts), and shaqadayam (almonds);

And laqach (take / seize) mashanah (double) kasap (money) in your yad (hand), and shawab (turn) back the kasap (money) that was shawab (turn) in the pah (mouth) of your amathachath (sacks). Perhaps it was an mashagah (oversight).

Laqach (take / seize) your ach (brother/kinsman) also, qawam (rise up) up, and shawab (turn) to the ayash (man / husband).

May Al Shaday () nathan (give) you racham (show mercy / love) panayam (face) the ayash (man / husband), that he may release to you your other ach (brother/kinsman) and Banayamayan (Benjamin). If I am shakal (bereaved) of my shakal (children), I am bereaved.”

The anashayam (men) laqach (take / seize) that manachah (present), and they laqach (take / seize) mashanah (double) kasap (money) in their yad (hand), and Banayamayan (Benjamin); and qawam (rise up) up, yarad (went) down to Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt), and imad (stood) panayam (face) Yawasap (Joseph).

When Yawasap (Joseph) raah (see / saw) Banayamayan (Benjamin) with them, he amar (said) to the steward of his bayath (house), “bawaa (bring) the anashayam (men) into the bayath (house), and butcher an animal, and kawan (prepare); for the anashayam (men) will akal (eat) with me at tzahar (noon).”

The ayash (man / husband) ishah (make) as Yawasap (Joseph) commanded, and the ayash (man / husband) bawaa (bring) the ishah (make) to Yawasap (Joseph's) bayath (house).

The anashayam (men) were yaraa (fear / be afraid), because they were bawaa (bring) to Yawasap (Joseph's) bayath (house); and they amar (said), “dabar (word / matter) of the kasap (money) that was shawab (turn) in our amathachath (sacks) at the thachalah (first) time, we're bawaa (bring) in; that he may galal (seek) occasion against us, attack us, and laqach (take / seize) us as ibadayam (slaves), along with our donkeys.”

They nagash (came) near to the ayash (man / husband) of Yawasap (Joseph's) bayath (house), and they dabar (word / matter) to him at the pathach (door) of the bayath (house),

And amar (spoke), “Oh, my Adawan (), we yarad (indeed) yarad (came) down the thachalah (first) time to shabar (buy) akal (food).

When we bawaa (bring) to the malawan (lodging) place, we pathach (opened) our amathachath (sacks), and behold, each ayash (man / husband) kasap (money) was in the pah (mouth) of his amathachath (sack), our kasap (money) in full mashaqal (weight). We have shawab (turn) it back in our yad (hand).

We have yarad (brought) down other kasap (money) in our yad (hand) to shabar (buy) akal (food). We don't yadai (know) who shawam (place / establish / appoint) our kasap (money) in our amathachath (sacks).”

He amar (spoke), “shalawam (peace / safety) be to you. Don't be yaraa (fear / be afraid). Your Alahayam (), and the Alahayam () of your ab (father), nathan (give) given you matamawan (treasure) in your amathachath (sacks). I received your kasap (money).” He yatzaa (go out / come out) Shamaiwan (Simeon) out to them.

The ayash (man / husband) bawaa (bring) the anashayam (men) into Yawasap (Joseph's) bayath (house), and nathan (give) them mayam (Waters), and they rachatz (washed) their ragal (feet / foot). He nathan (give) their donkeys fodder.

They kawan (prepared) the manachah (present) for Yawasap (Joseph's) bawaa (bring) at tzahar (noon), for they shamai (hearken / hear) that they should akal (eat) lacham (bread) there.

When Yawasap (Joseph) bawaa (bring) bayath (house), they bawaa (bring) him the manachah (present) which was in their yad (hand) into the bayath (house), and shachah (bowed) themselves down to him to the aratz (Earth/land).

He shaal (asked) them of their shalawam (peace / safety), and amar (said), “Is your ab (father) shalawam (peace / safety), the old zaqan (man) of whom you amar (said)? Is he yet chay (life)?”

They amar (said), “Your ibad (servant), our ab (father), is shalawam (peace / safety). He is still chay (life).” They qadad (bowed) down shachah (humbly).

He nashaa (lift) up his iyan (eye), and raah (see) Banayamayan (Benjamin), his ach (brother/kinsman), his am (mother) ban (son), and amar (spoke), “Is this your youngest ach (brother/kinsman), of whom you amar (spoke) to me?” He amar (spoke), “Alahayam () be gracious to you, my ban (son).”

Yawasap (Joseph) hurried, for his racham (show mercy / love) kamar (yearned) over his ach (brother/kinsman); and he baqash (sought) a place to bakah (weep). He bawaa (bring) into his room, and bakah (wept) there.

He rachatz (washed) his panayam (face), and yatzaa (go out / come out) out. He controlled himself, and amar (said), “shawam (place / establish / appoint) the meal.”

They served him by himself, and them by themselves, and the Matzaray (Egyptians), that akal (eat) with him, by themselves, because the Matzaray (Egyptians) don't akal (eat) lacham (bread) with the ibarayam (hebrews), for that is an thawaibah (abomination) to the Matzaray (Egyptians).

They yashab (inhabit/dwell) panayam (face) him, the bakawar (firstborn) according to his bakawarah (birthright), and the youngest according to his tzaiyarah (youth), and the anashayam (men) thamah (marveled) ayash (man / husband) with rai (neigbor/another person).

He sent portions to them from panayam (face) him, but Banayamayan (Benjamin's) portion was chamash (five) yadawath (times) as much as any of theirs. They shathah (drinks), and were shakar (merry) with him.
