Habakkuk 2 — English–Hebrew Parallel

I will imad (stand) at my mashamarath (duty / watch), and yatzab (set) myself on the ramparts, and will raah (see / saw) out to raah (see / saw) what he will dabar (word / matter) to me, and what I will shawab (turn) concerning my complaint.

Yahawah () inah (answer / respond) me, “kathab (write) the chazawan (vision), and make it baar (plain) on tablets, that he who rawatz (runs) may qaraa (called) it.

For the chazawan (vision) is yet for the mawaid (Feast/Holy Day) time, and it hurries toward the qatz (end), and won't prove false. Though it takes time, wait for it; because it will bawaa (bring) bawaa (bring). It won't achar (other).

Behold, his napash (soul) is puffed up. It is not yashar (upright) in him, but the tzadayaq (righteous) will chayah (live) by his amawanah (faith).

Yes, moreover, yayan (wine) is bagad (treacherous). A yahayar (haughty) gabar (man) who doesn't stay at nawah (habitation), who enlarges his napash (soul) as shaawal (Sheol / afterlife), and he is like mawath (death), and can't be shabai (satisfied), but asap (gathers) to himself all gawayam (heathen), and qabatz (heaps) to himself all imayam (peoples).

Won't all these nashaa (lift) up a mashal (parable) against him, and a malayatzah (taunting) chayadah (proverb) amar (said) him, and say, ‘haway (Alas/Woe!) To him who rabah (increases) that which is not his, and who enriches himself by extortion! How long?’

Won't your debtors qawam (rise up) up pathai (suddenly), and wake up those who make you zawai (tremble), and you will be their victim?

Because you have plundered many gawayam (heathen), all the yathar (remnant) of the imayam (peoples) will plunder you, because of adam (men's) dam (blood), and for the chamas (violence) done to the aratz (Earth/land), to the qarayah (city / town) and to all who yashab (inhabit/dwell) in it.

Haway (Alas/Woe!) To him who batzai (gets) an rai (evil) batzai (gain) for his bayath (house), that he may shawam (place / establish / appoint) his qan (nest) on marawam (high), that he may be natzal (delivered) from the kap (hand) of rai (evil)!

You have yaitz (devised) bashath (shame) to your bayath (house), by qatzah (end / extremity / border) off many imayam (peoples), and have chataa (sinned) against your napash (soul).

For the aban (stone) will zaiq (cry) out of the qayar (wall), and the beam out of the woodwork will inah (answer / respond) it.

Haway (Alas/Woe!) To him who banah (build) a iyar (town) with dam (blood), and establishes a qarayah (city / town) by iwal (iniquity)!

Behold, isn't it of Yahawah () of tzabaawath (armies) that the imayam (peoples) yagai (labor) for the ash (fire), and the laamayam (nations) yaip (weary) themselves for rayaq (vanity)?

For the aratz (Earth/land) will be malaa (filled) with the yadai (knowledge) of the kabawad (glory) of Yahawah (), as the mayam (Waters) kasah (cover) the yam (sea/waters).

“Haway (Alas/Woe!) To him who gives his neighbor shaqah (drink), pouring your inflaming chamath (wine) until they are shakar (drunk), so that you may gaze at their naked bodies!

You are shabai (filled) with qalawan (shame), and not kabawad (glory). You will also shathah (drinks), and be exposed! The kawas (cup) of Yahawah () right yamayan (right hand) will sabab (come) around to you, and disgrace will cover your kabawad (glory).

For the chamas (violence) done to Labanawan (Lebanon) will kasah (overwhelm) you, and the shad (destruction) of the animals, which made them chathath (afraid); because of adam (men's) dam (blood), and for the chamas (violence) done to the aratz (Earth/land), to every qarayah (city / town) and to those who yashab (inhabit/dwell) in them.

“What value does the engraved pasal (image) have, that its yatzar (maker) has engraved it; the masakah (molten) image, even the teacher of shaqar (lies), that he who yatzar (fashions) its form batach (trusts) in it, to ishah (make) mute alayalayam (idols)?

Haway (Alas/Woe!) To him who amar (said) to the itz (wood), ‘qawatz (awake)!’ Or to the mute aban (stone), ‘Arise!’ Shall this yarah (teach)? Behold, it is overlaid with zahab (gold) and kasap (silver), and there is no rawach (spirit / wind) at all in its qarab (among / near).

But Yahawah () is in his qadash (set apart / make holy) hayakal (temple). Let all the aratz (Earth/land) be hasah (silent) panayam (face) him!”
