Hosea 4 — English–Hebrew Parallel

Shamai (hearken / hear) the dabar (word / matter) of Yahawah (), you banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel); for Yahawah () has a charge against the yawashabay (inhabitants) of the aratz (Earth/land): “Indeed there is no amath (truth), nor goodness, nor daith (knowledge) of Alahayam () in the aratz (Earth/land).

There is alah (these), kachash (lying), ratzach (murder), ganab (stealing), and naap (committing) adultery; they paratz (break) boundaries, and bloodshed causes bloodshed.

Therefore the aratz (Earth/land) will abal (mourn), and everyone who yashab (inhabit/dwell) therein will waste away. All chay (life) things in her, even the animals of the shadah (field) and the iwap (flying) of the sky; yes, the dag (fish) of the yam (sea/waters) also asap (die).

“Yet let no ayash (man / husband) bring a charge, neither let any yakach (man) accuse; For your im (nation / people) are like those who bring charges against a kahan (priest).

You will kashal (stumble / stagger) in the yawam (day), and the nabayaa (prophet/prophecy) will also kashal (stumble / stagger) with you in the layal (night); and I will damah (destroy) your am (mother).

My im (nation / people) are damah (destroyed) for lack of daith (knowledge). Because you have maas (rejected) daith (knowledge), I will also maas (reject) you, that you may be no kahan (priest) to me. Because you have shakach (forgotten) your Alahayam () thawarah (instruction), I will also shakach (forget) your ban (son).

As they were multiplied, so they chataa (sinned) against me. I will mawar (change) their kabawad (glory) into qalawan (shame).

They akal (eat) on the chataah (sin) of my im (nation / people), and nashaa (lift) their napash (soul) on their iwan (guilt/iniquity).

It will be, like im (nation / people), like kahan (priest); and I will paqad (visit) them for their darak (ways), and will repay them for their deeds.

They will akal (eat), and not shabai (have) enough. They will zanah (play) the prostitute, and will not paratz (increase); because they have abandoned giving to Yahawah ().

Prostitution, yayan (wine), and new thayarawash (wine) laqach (take / seize) away lab (heart).

My im (nation / people) shaal (consult) with their wooden idol, and answer to a stick of wood. Indeed the rawach (spirit / wind) of prostitution has led them thaih (astray), and they have been unfaithful to their Alahayam ().

They zabach (sacrifice) on the raashay (tops) of the harayam (mountains), and qatar (burn) incense on the gabaiwath (hills), under alawan (oaks) and labanah (poplars) and terebinths, because its tzal (shade) is tawab (good / proper function). Therefore your banath (daughter) zanah (play) the prostitute, and your kalah (complete / finish) naap (commit) adultery.

I will not paqad (visit) your banath (daughter) when they zanah (play) the prostitute, nor your kalah (complete / finish) when they naap (commit) adultery; because the men consort with prostitutes, and they zabach (sacrifice) with the shrine prostitutes; so the im (nation / people) without bayan (between) will come to ruin.

“Though you, Yashar-Al (Israel), zanah (play) the prostitute, yet don't let Yahawadah (Judah) asham (offend); and don't bawaa (come) to Galagal (Gilgal), neither ilah (go up / offer) up to Bayathaawan (Beth Aven), nor shabai (swear / take oath), ‘As Yahawah () chay (life).’

For Yashar-Al (Israel) has behaved extremely stubbornly, like a sarar (stubborn) parah (heifer). Then how will Yahawah () raih (feed) them like a kabash (lamb) in a meadow.

Aparayam (Ephraim) is chabar (joined) to itzabayam (idols). Leave him yanach (alone)!

Their sabaa (drink) has become sawar (sour). They zanah (play) the prostitute zanah (continually). Her magan (shield) dearly ahab (love) their shameful qalawan (way).

The rawach (spirit / wind) has wrapped her up in its kanap (wings); and they shall be disappointed because of their zabach (sacrifices).
