Isaiah 5 — English–Hebrew Parallel

Let me shayar (sing) for my well yadayad (beloved) a shayar (song) of my dawad (beloved) about his karam (vineyard). My yadayad (beloved) had a karam (vineyard) on a very ban (son) qaran (horn).

He dug it up, gathered out its saqal (stones), natai (planted) it with the choicest vine, banah (build) a magadal (tower) in its thawak (midst), and also chatzab (cut) out a yaqab (winepress) therein. He qawah (gather/wait) for it to ishah (make) inabayam (grapes), but it ishah (make) baashayam (wild) grapes.

“Now, yashab (inhabit/dwell) of Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem) and ayash (man / husband) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah), please shapat (judge / judgement) between me and my karam (vineyard).

What could ishah (make) been done more to my karam (vineyard), that I ishah (make) not done in it? Madawai (for what reason?), when I qawah (gather/wait) for it to ishah (make) inabayam (grapes), ishah (make) it yield baashayam (wild) grapes?

Now I yadai (will) tell you what I will ishah (make) to my karam (vineyard). I will sawar (take) away its mashawakah (hedge), and it will be bair (eaten) up. I will paratz (break) down its gadar (wall) of it, and it will be trampled down.

I will shayath (put / appoint / make) it a wasteland. It won't be zamar (pruned) nor hoed, but it will ilah (go up / offer) shamayar (briers) and shayath (thorns). I will also tzawah (command) the ibayam (clouds) that they matar (rain) no matar (rain) on it.”

For the karam (vineyard) of Yahawah () of tzabaawath (armies) is the bayath (house) of Yashar-Al (Israel), and the ayash (man / husband) of Yahawadah (Judah) his pleasant natai (plant): and he qawah (gather/wait) for mashapat (justice), but, behold, mashapach (oppression); for tzadaqah (righteousness), but, behold, a tzaiqah (cry) of distress.

Haway (Alas/Woe!) To those who nagai (join) bayath (house) to bayath (house), who lay shadah (field) to shadah (field), until there is no maqawam (place), and you are yashab (inhabit/dwell) to dwell alone in the qarab (among / near) of the aratz (Earth/land)!

In my azan (ear), Yahawah () of tzabaawath (armies) says: “laa (NOT) many bathayam (houses) will be shamah (desolate), even gadawal (very great/important/mighty) and tawab (good / proper function), unoccupied.

For ishar (ten) tzamaday (acres) of karam (vineyard) shall ishah (make) achad (one) Banath (daughter), and a chamar (homer) of zarai (seed) shall ishah (make) an ayapah (ephah).”

Haway (Alas/Woe!) To those who shakam (rise) up early in the baqar (morning), that they may radap (follow) shakar (strong) drink; who achar (other) late into the nashap (night), until yayan (wine) dalaq (inflames) them!

The kanawar (harp), lyre, tambourine, and flute, with yayan (wine), are at their mashathah (feasts); but they don't nabat (respect) the pail (work) of Yahawah (), neither raah (see) they considered the operation of his yad (hand).

Therefore my im (nation / people) galah (go) into captivity for lack of daith (knowledge). Their honorable mathay (men) are raib (famished), and their hamawan (multitudes) are parched with tzamaa (thirst).

Therefore shaawal (Sheol / afterlife) has enlarged its desire, and pair (opened) its pah (mouth) without chaq (statute); and their glory, their hamawan (multitude), their shaawan (pomp), and he who rejoices among them, descend into it.

So adam (man) is shachach (brought) low, mankind is shapal (humbled), and the iyanay (eyes) of the arrogant ones are shapal (humbled);

But Yahawah () of tzabaawath (armies) is gabah (exalted) in mashapat (justice), and Al the qadawash (holy) One is qadash (set apart / make holy) in tzadaqah (righteousness).

Then the kabashayam (lambs) will graze as in their pasture, and garayam (strangers) will akal (eat) the ruins of the rich.

Haway (Alas/Woe!) To those who mashak (draw) iwan (guilt/iniquity) with chabalay (cords) of falsehood, and chataah (sin) as with igalah (cart) ibath (rope);

Who amar (said), “Let him mahar (make) speed, let him chawash (hasten) his maishah (work), that we may raah (see / saw) it; and let the itzah (counsel) of the qadawash (holy) One of Yashar-Al (Israel) qarab (come close) near and bawaa (bring), that we may yadai (know) it!”

Haway (Alas/Woe!) To those who amar (said) rai (evil) tawab (good / proper function), and tawab (good / proper function) rai (evil); who shawam (place / establish / appoint) chashak (darkness) for awar (light), and awar (light) for chashak (darkness); who shawam (place / establish / appoint) mar (bitter) for mathawaq (sweet), and mathawaq (sweet) for mar (bitter)!

Haway (Alas/Woe!) To those who are chakam (wise) in their own iyan (eye), and bayan (between) in their own panayam (face)!

Haway (Alas/Woe!) To those who are gabawar (mighty) to shathah (drinks) yayan (wine), and champions at mixing shakar (strong) drink;

Who acquit the rashai (guilty) for a shachad (bribe), but deny tzadaqah (righteousness) for the innocent!

Therefore as the tongue of ash (fire) akal (eat) the qash (stubble), and as the dry grass sinks down in the lashawan (tongue / language), so their sharash (root) shall be as maq (rottenness), and their parach (blossom) shall ilah (go up / offer) up as abaq (dust); because they have maas (rejected) the thawarah (instruction) of Yahawah () of tzabaawath (armies), and naatz (despised) the amarah (sayings) of the qadawash (holy) One of Yashar-Al (Israel).

Therefore Yahawah () ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) charah (hot with anger) against his im (nation / people), and he has natah (stretched) out his yad (hand) against them, and has nakah (struck) them. The harayam (mountains) ragaz (tremble), and their nabalah (dead) bodies are as refuse in the qarab (among / near) of the chawatzawath (streets). For all this, his ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) is not shawab (turn back / repent) away, but his yad (hand) is still natah (stretched) out.

He will nashaa (lift) up a nas (banner) to the gawayam (heathen) from rachawaq (far), and he will whistle for them from the qatzah (end / extremity / border) of the aratz (Earth/land). Behold, they will bawaa (bring) maharah (speedily) and qal (swiftly).

None shall be iyap (weary) nor kashal (stumble / stagger) among them; none shall nawam (slumber) nor sleep; neither shall the belt of their waist be untied, nor the sharawak (latchet) of their nail (shoes) be nathaq (broken):

Whose chatz (arrows) are shanan (sharp), and all their qashath (bows) bent. Their sawas (horses)’ parasawath (hoofs) will be chashab (like) tzar (oppressor / distressor), and their galagal (wheels) like a sawapah (whirlwind).

Their shaagah (roaring) will be like a labayaa (lioness). They will shaag (roar) like young kapayarayam (lions). Yes, they shall naham (roar), and seize their tarap (prey) and palat (carry) it off, and there will be no one to natzal (deliver).

They will naham (roar) against them in that yawam (day) like the nahamah (roaring) of the yam (sea/waters). If one nabat (looks) to the aratz (Earth/land) behold, chashak (darkness) and tzar (oppressor / distressor). The awar (light) is chashak (darkness) in its clouds.
