Jeremiah 14 — English–Hebrew Parallel

The dabar (word / matter) of Yahawah () that came to Yaramayah (Jeremiah) dabar (word / matter) the batzarath (drought).

“Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) abal (mourns), and its shair (gates) amal (languish), they sit in qadar (black) on the aratz (Earth/land); and the tzawachah (cry) of Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem) is ilah (go up / offer) up.

Their adayar (nobles) shalach (send) their tzaiyar (little) ones to the mayam (Waters): they bawaa (bring) to the cisterns, and matzaa (find) no mayam (Waters); they shawab (turn) with their kalay (vessels) rayaqam (empty); they are disappointed and bawash (confounded), and chapah (cover) their raash (head).

Because of the adamah (ground) which is cracked, because no gasham (rain) has been in the aratz (Earth/land), the plowmen are disappointed, they chapah (cover) their raash (head).

Yes, the ayalath (hind) also in the shadah (field) yalad (birth / begot), and izab (forsakes) her young, because there is no dashaa (grass).

The paraa (wild) donkeys imad (stand) on the bare heights, they shaap (pant) for rawach (spirit / wind) like jackals; their iyan (eye) kalah (complete / finish), because there is no herbage.

Though our iwan (guilt/iniquity) inah (answer / respond) against us, ishah (make) for your sham (name) sake, Yahawah (); for our mashawabah (backslidings) are many; we have chataa (sinned) against you.

You maqawah (gathering / collection) of Yashar-Al (Israel), its Savior in the ith (time) of tzarah (trouble), why should you be as a foreigner in the aratz (Earth/land), and as a arach (wayfaring) man who natah (turns) aside to stay for a lawan (night)?

Why should you be like a scared ayash (man / husband), as a gabawar (mighty) man who can't yashai (salvation)? Yet you, Yahawah (), are in the qarab (among / near) of us, and we are qaraa (called) by your sham (name); don't yanach (leave) us.

Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah () to this im (nation / people), “Even so have they ahab (love) to nawai (wander); they have not chashak (darkness) their ragal (feet / foot): therefore Yahawah () does not ratzah (accept) them; now he will zakar (remember) their iwan (guilt/iniquity), and paqad (visit) their chataah (sin).”

Yahawah () amar (spoke) to me, “Don't palal (pray) for this im (nation / people) for their tawab (good / proper function).

When they tzawam (fast), I will not shamai (hearken / hear) their ranah (cry); and when they ilah (go up / offer) burnt ilah (offering) and meal manachah (offering), I will not ratzah (accept) them; but I will kalah (complete / finish) them by the charab (sword), and by the raib (famine), and by the dabar (word / matter).”

Then I amar (spoke), “ahah (ah), Adanay () Yahawah ()! Behold, the nabaayam (prophets) amar (spoke) them, ‘You shall not raah (see) the charab (sword), neither shall you have raib (famine); but I will nathan (give) you amath (truth) shalawam (peace / safety) in this maqawam (place).’”

Then Yahawah () amar (spoke) to me, “The nabaayam (prophets) nabaa (prophesy) shaqar (lies) in my sham (name); I didn't shalach (send) them, neither have I tzawah (commanded) them, neither dabar (word / matter) I to them: they nabaa (prophesy) to you a shaqar (lying) chazawan (vision), and qasam (divination), and a thing of nothing, and the tharamah (deceit) of their own lab (heart).

Therefore thus amarayam (says) Yahawah () concerning the nabaayam (prophets) who nabaa (prophesy) in my sham (name), and I didn't shalach (send) them, yet they amar (spoke), ‘charab (sword) and raib (famine) shall not be in this aratz (Earth/land):’ By charab (sword) and raib (famine) shall those nabaayam (prophets) be thamam (consumed).

The im (nation / people) to whom they nabaa (prophesy) shall be shalak (cast) out in the chatzawath (streets) of Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem) panayam (face) of the raib (famine) and the charab (sword); and they shall have none to qabar (grave / tomb / sepulcher) them—them, their wives, nor their ban (son), nor their banath (daughter): for I will shapak (pour) their rai (wickedness) on them.

“You shall amar (said) this dabar (word / matter) to them, “‘Let my iyan (eye) yarad (run) down with damaih (tears) layal (night) and yawamam (by day), and let them not damah (cease); for the bathawalah (virgin) banath (daughter) of my im (nation / people) is shabar (broken) with a gadawal (very great/important/mighty) shabar (breach), with a very chalah (afflict) makah (wound).

If I yatzaa (go out / come out) forth into the shadah (field), then, behold, the chalal (slain) with the charab (sword)! And if I bawaa (bring) into the iyar (city), then, behold, those who are thachalawaa (sick) with raib (famine)! For both the nabayaa (prophet/prophecy) and the kahan (priest) sachar (go) about in the aratz (Earth/land), and have no yadai (knowledge).’”

Have you maas (utterly) maas (rejected) Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah)? Has your napash (soul) loathed Tzayawan (Zion)? Why have you nakah (struck) us, and there is no marapaa (healing) for us? We qawah (gather/wait) for shalawam (peace / safety), but no tawab (good / proper function) came; and for a ith (time) of marapaa (healing), and behold, baithah (dismay)!

We yadai (acknowledge), Yahawah (), our rashai (wickedness), and the iwan (guilt/iniquity) of our ab (father); for we have chataa (sinned) against you.

Do not naatz (abhor) us, for your sham (name) sake; nabal (do) not disgrace the kasaa (throne) of your kabawad (glory): zakar (remember), don't parar (break) your barayath (covenant) with us.

Are there any among the habalay (vanities) of the gawayam (nations) that can cause gasham (rain)? Or can the sky nathan (give) rababayam (showers)? Aren't you he, Yahawah () our Alahayam ()? Therefore we will qawah (gather/wait) for you; for you ishah (make) made all these things.
