Jeremiah 36 — English–Hebrew Parallel

It happened in the rabayaiy (fourth) shanah (year) of Yahawayaqayam (Jehoiakim) the ban (son) of Yaashayah (Josiah), malak (king) of Yahawadah (Judah), that this dabar (word / matter) came to Yaramayah (Jeremiah) from Yahawah (), amar (spoke),

“Laqach (take / seize) a scroll of a sapar (book / scribed document), and kathab (write) therein all the dabarayam (words) that I have dabar (word / matter) to you against Yashar-Al (Israel), and against Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah), and against all the gawayam (heathen), from the yawam (day) I dabar (word / matter) to you, from the yamay (days) of Yaashayah (Josiah), even to this yawam (day).

It may be that the bayath (house) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) will shamai (hearken / hear) all the rai (evil) which I chashab (purpose) to ishah (make) to them; that they may shawab (turn) every ayash (man / husband) from his rai (evil) darak (way); that I may salach (forgive/pardon/make clean) their iwan (guilt/iniquity) and their chataah (sin).”

Then Yaramayah (Jeremiah) qaraa (called) Barawak (Baruch) the ban (son) of Narayah (Neriah); and Barawak (Baruch) kathab (write) from the pah (mouth) of Yaramayah (Jeremiah) all the dabaray (words) of Yahawah (), which he had dabar (word / matter) to him, on a scroll of a sapar (book / scribed document).

Yaramayah (Jeremiah) tzawah (commanded) Barawak (Baruch), amar (spoke), “I am itzar (shut) up; I can't bawaa (come) into the bayath (house) of Yahawah ():

Therefore you bawaa (come), and qaraa (called) in the scroll, which you have kathab (write) from my pah (mouth), the dabaray (words) of Yahawah () in the azanay (ears) of the im (nation / people) in Yahawah () bayath (house) on the tzawam (fast) yawam (day); and also you shall qaraa (called) them in the azanay (ears) of all Yahawadah (Judah) who bawaa (come) out of their iyar (cities).

It may be they will napal (fall / be cast down) their thachanah (supplication) panayam (face) Yahawah (), and will shawab (turn back / repent) everyone from his rai (evil) darak (way); for gadawal (very great/important/mighty) is the ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) and the chamah (wrath) that Yahawah () has dabar (word / matter) against this im (nation / people).”

Barawak (Baruch) the ban (son) of Narayah (Neriah) ishah (make) according to all that Yaramayah (Jeremiah) the nabayaa (prophet/prophecy) tzawah (commanded) him, qaraa (called) in the sapar (book / scribed document) the dabaray (words) of Yahawah () in Yahawah () bayath (house).

Now it happened in the chamayashay (fifth) shanah (year) of Yahawayaqayam (Jehoiakim) the ban (son) of Yaashayah (Josiah), malak (king) of Yahawadah (Judah), in the thashayaiy (ninth) chadash (month), that all the im (nation / people) in Yarawashalam (Jerusalem), and all the im (nation / people) who bawaa (come) from the iray (cities) of Yahawadah (Judah) to Yarawashalam (Jerusalem), qaraa (called) a tzawam (fast) panayam (face) Yahawah ().

Then qaraa (called) Barawak (Baruch) in the sapar (book / scribed document) the dabaray (words) of Yaramayah (Jeremiah) in the bayath (house) of Yahawah (), in the room of Gamarayah (Gemariah) the ban (son) of Shapan (Shaphan), the sapar (book), in the ilayawan (Ilayawan) chatzar (court), at the entry of the chadash (new) shair (gate) of Yahawah () bayath (house), in the azanay (ears) of all the im (nation / people).

When Mayakayahaw (Micaiah) the ban (son) of Gamarayah (Gemariah), the ban (son) of Shapan (Shaphan), had shamai (hearken / hear) out of the sapar (book / scribed document) all the dabaray (words) of Yahawah (),

He yarad (went) down into the malak (king) bayath (house), into the sapar (book) room: and behold, all the sharayam (princes) were sitting there, Alayashamai (Elishama) the sapar (book), and Dalayah (Delaiah) the ban (son) of Shamaiyah (Shemaiah), and Alanathan (Elnathan) the ban (son) of Ikabawar (Achbor), and Gamarayah (Gemariah) the ban (son) of Shapan (Shaphan), and Tzadaqayah (Zedekiah) the ban (son) of Chananayah (Hananiah), and all the sharayam (princes).

Then Mayakayahaw (Micaiah) nagad (declared) to them all the dabarayam (words) that he had shamai (hearken / hear), when Barawak (blessed be) qaraa (called) the sapar (book / scribed document) in the azanay (ears) of the im (nation / people).

Therefore all the sharayam (princes) shalach (send) Yahawaday (Jehudi) the ban (son) of Nathanayah (Nethaniah), the ban (son) of Shalamayah (Shelemiah), the ban (son) of Kawashay (Cushi), to Barawak (blessed be), amar (said), “laqach (take / seize) in your yad (hand) the scroll in which you have qaraa (called) in the azanay (ears) of the im (nation / people), and yalak (come).” So Barawak (blessed be) the ban (son) of Narayah (Neriah) laqach (take / seize) the scroll in his yad (hand), and bawaa (bring) to them.

They amar (said) to him, “yashab (inhabit/dwell) down now, and qaraa (called) it in our azan (ear).” So Barawak (blessed be) qaraa (called) it in their azan (ear).

Now it happened, when they had shamai (hearken / hear) all the dabarayam (words), they turned in pachad (fear / dread) ayash (man / husband) al (toward) rai (neigbor/another person), and amar (said) to Barawak (blessed be), “We will nagad (surely) nagad (tell) the malak (king) of all these dabarayam (words).”

They shaal (asked) Barawak (blessed be), amar (said), “nagad (tell) us now, How did you kathab (write) all these dabarayam (words) at his pah (mouth)?”

Then Barawak (blessed be) amar (said) them, “He qaraa (called) all these dabarayam (words) to me with his pah (mouth), and I kathab (write) them with dayaw (ink) in the sapar (book / scribed document).”

Then the sharayam (princes) amar (said) to Barawak (blessed be), yalak (go), sathar (hide), “you and Yaramayah (Jeremiah); and let no ayash (man / husband) yadai (know) ayapah (where) you are.”

They bawaa (bring) in to the malak (king) into the chatzar (court); but they paqad (visit) laid up the scroll in the room of Alayashamai (Elishama) the sapar (book); and they nagad (told) all the dabarayam (words) in the azanay (ears) of the malak (king).

So the malak (king) shalach (send) Yahawaday (Jehudi) to laqach (take / seize) the scroll; and he laqach (take / seize) it out of the room of Alayashamai (Elishama) the sapar (book). Yahawaday (Jehudi) qaraa (called) it in the azanay (ears) of the malak (king), and in the azanay (ears) of all the sharayam (princes) who imad (stood) il (over) the malak (king).

Now the malak (king) was sitting in the winter bayath (house) in the thashayaiy (ninth) chadash (month): and there was a ach (brother/kinsman) in the brazier bair (burning) panayam (face) him.

It happened, when Yahawaday (Jehudi) had qaraa (called) shalawash (three) or arabai (four) leaves, that the king qarai (cut) it with the thair (razor), and shalak (cast) it into the ash (fire) that was in the brazier, until all the scroll was thamam (consumed) in the ash (fire) that was in the brazier.

They were not pachad (fear / dread), nor qarai (tore) their bagad (garments), neither the malak (king), nor any of his ibad (servant) who shamai (hearken / hear) all these dabarayam (words).

Moreover Alanathan (Elnathan) and Dalayah (Delaiah) and Gamarayah (Gemariah) had pagai (made) intercession to the malak (king) that he would not sharap (burn) the scroll; but he would not shamai (hearken / hear) them.

The malak (king) tzawah (commanded) Yarachamaal (Jerahmeel) the malak (king) ban (son), and Sharayah (Seraiah) the ban (son) of Izarayaal (Azriel), and Shalamayah (Shelemiah) the ban (son) of Ibadaal (Abdeel), to laqach (take / seize) Barawak (Baruch) the sapar (book) and Yaramayah (Jeremiah) the nabayaa (prophet/prophecy); but Yahawah () sathar (hid) them.

Then the dabar (word / matter) of Yahawah () came to Yaramayah (Jeremiah), achar (other) that the malak (king) had sharap (burned) the scroll, and the dabarayam (words) which Barawak (Baruch) kathab (write) at the pah (mouth) of Yaramayah (Jeremiah), amar (spoke),

“Laqach (take / seize) again achar (other) scroll, and kathab (write) in it all the raashawan (former) dabarayam (words) that were in the raashawan (first) scroll, which Yahawayaqayam (Jehoiakim) the malak (king) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) has sharap (burned).

Concerning Yahawayaqayam (Jehoiakim) malak (king) of Yahawadah (Judah) you shall amar (spoke), ‘Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (): “You have sharap (burned) this scroll, amar (spoke), “Why have you kathab (write) therein, amar (spoke), ‘The malak (king) of Babal (Babylon) shall bawaa (come) bawaa (come) and shachath (destroy) this aratz (Earth/land), and shall shabath (shabath / rest) to cease from there adam (man) and animal?’”’

Therefore thus amar (spoke) Yahawah () concerning Yahawayaqayam (Jehoiakim) malak (king) of Yahawadah (Judah): “He shall have none to yashab (inhabit/dwell) on the kasaa (throne) of Dawad (David); and his nabalah (dead) body shall be shalak (cast) out in the yawam (day) to the charab (heat), and in the layal (night) to the qarach (frost).

I will paqad (visit) him and his zarai (seed) and his ibad (servant) for their iwan (guilt/iniquity); and I will bawaa (bring) on them, and on the yashabay (inhabitants) of Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem), and on the ayash (man / husband) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah), all the rai (evil) that I have dabar (word / matter) against them, but they didn't shamai (hearken / hear).”’”

Then laqach (take / seize) Yaramayah (Jeremiah) achar (other) scroll, and nathan (give) it to Barawak (blessed be) the sapar (book), the ban (son) of Narayah (Neriah), who kathab (write) therein from the pah (mouth) of Yaramayah (Jeremiah) all the dabaray (words) of the sapar (book / scribed document) which Yahawayaqayam (Jehoiakim) malak (king) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) had sharap (burned) in the ash (fire); and there were yasap (added) besides to them many like dabaray (words).
