Jeremiah 44 — English–Hebrew Parallel

The dabar (word / matter) that came to Yaramayah (Jeremiah) concerning all the Yahawaday (Jews) who lived in the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt), who lived at Magadawal (Migdol), and at Thachapanachas (Tahpanhes), and at Nap (Memphis), and in the aratz (Earth/land) of Patharawas (Pathros), amar (said),

“Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah () of tzabaawath (armies), the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel): ‘You raah (see) seen all the rai (evil) that I bawaa (come) brought on Yarawashalam (Jerusalem), and on all the iray (cities) of Yahawadah (Judah); and behold, this yawam (day) they are a desolation, and no man yashab (inhabit/dwell) therein,

Panayam (face) of their rai (wickedness) which they ishah (make) committed to provoke me to kais (anger), in that they yalak (went) to qatar (burn) incense, to ibad (servant) other Alahayam (), that they didn't yadai (know), neither they, nor you, nor your ab (father).

However I shalach (send) to you all my ibad (servant) the nabayaayam (prophets), shakam (rising) up early and shalach (send) them, amar (said), “Oh, don't ishah (make) this thawaibah (abominable) thing that I shanaa (hate).”

But they didn't shamai (hearken / hear), nor natah (inclined) their azan (ear) to shawab (turn back / repent) from their rai (wickedness), to qatar (burn) no incense to other Alahayam ().

Therefore my chamah (wrath) and my ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) was nathak (poured) forth, and was bair (kindled) in the iray (cities) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) and in the chatzawath (streets) of Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem); and they are charabah (wasted) and shamamah (desolate), as it is this yawam (day).’

“Therefore now thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of tzabaawath (armies), the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel): ‘Why ishah (make) you commit gadawal (very great/important/mighty) rai (evil) against your own napash (soul), to karath (cut) off from yourselves ayash (man / husband) and ayashah (woman / wife), iwalal (infant) and yanaq (nursing) child out of the midst of Yahawadah (Judah), to yathar (leave) yourselves none shaarayath (remaining);

In that you provoke me to kais (anger) with the maishay (works) of your yad (hand), qatar (burning) incense to other Alahayam () in the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Egypt), where you bawaa (come) gone to live; that you may be karath (cut) off, and that you may be a qalalah (curse) and a charapah (reproach) among all the gawayay (nations) of the aratz (Earth/land)?

Have you shakach (forgotten) the rai (wickedness) of your ab (father), and the rai (wickedness) of the malakay (kings) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah), and the rai (wickedness) of their wives, and your own rai (wickedness), and the rai (wickedness) of your wives which they ishah (make) in the aratz (Earth/land) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah), and in the chatzawath (streets) of Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem)?

They are not dakaa (humbled) even to this yawam (day), neither have they yaraa (fear / be afraid), nor halak (move) in my thawarah (Torah / Instruction), nor in my chaqah (statutes), that I nathan (give) panayam (face) you and panayam (face) your ab (father).’

“Therefore thus amar (spoke) Yahawah () of tzabaawath (armies), the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel): ‘Behold, I will shawam (place / establish / appoint) my panayam (face) against you for rai (evil), even to karath (cut) off all Yahawadah (Judah).

I will laqach (take / seize) the shaarayath (remnant) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah), that have shawam (place / establish / appoint) their panayam (face) to bawaa (bring) into the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt) to live there, and they shall thamam (all) be consumed; in the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt) shall they napal (fall / be cast down); they shall be thamam (consumed) by the charab (sword) and by the raib (famine); they shall mawath (death), from the qatan (small / young / least) even to the greatest, by the charab (sword) and by the raib (famine); and they shall be an object of horror, an shamah (astonishment), and a qalalah (curse), and a charapah (reproach).

For I will paqad (visit) those who yashab (inhabit/dwell) in the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt), as I paqad (visit) punished Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem), by the charab (sword), by the raib (famine), and by the dabar (word / matter);

So that none of the shaarayath (remnant) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah), who bawaa (bring) gone into the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt) to live there, shall palayat (escape) or be sharayad (left), to shawab (turn) into the aratz (Earth/land) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah), to which they have a napash (soul) to shawab (turn) to yashab (inhabit/dwell) there: for none shall shawab (turn) save such as shall palayat (escape).’”

Then all the anashayam (men) who yadai (knew) that their wives qatar (burned) incense to other Alahayam (), and all the nashayam (women) who imad (stood) by, a gadawal (very great/important/mighty) qahal (assembly), even all the im (nation / people) who lived in the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Egypt), in Patharawas (Pathros), inah (answer / respond) Yaramayah (Jeremiah), amar (spoke),

“As for the dabar (word / matter) that you have dabar (word / matter) to us in the sham (name) of Yahawah (), we will not shamai (hearken / hear) to you.

But we will ishah (make) ishah (make) every dabar (word / matter) that is yatzaa (go out / come out) forth out of our pah (mouth), to qatar (burn) incense to the malakath (queen) of the sky, and to nasak (pour) out drink nasakayam (offerings) to her, as we ishah (make) done, we and our ab (father), our malak (king) and our shar (prince / ruler), in the iray (cities) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah), and in the chatzawath (streets) of Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem); for then shabai (had) we plenty of lacham (food), and were tawab (good / proper function), and raah (see / saw) no rai (evil).

But since we chadal (left) off qatar (burning) incense to the malakath (queen) of the sky, and nasak (pouring) out drink nasakayam (offerings) to her, we have chasar (wanted) thamam (all) things, and have been consumed by the charab (sword) and by the raib (famine).

“When we qatar (burned) incense to the malakath (queen) of the sky, and nasak (poured) out drink nasakayam (offerings) to her, ishah (make) we make her kawanayam (cakes) to itzab (worship) her, and nasak (pour) out drink nasakayam (offerings) to her, balaiday (without) our ayash (man / husband)?”

Then Yaramayah (Jeremiah) amar (said) to all the im (nation / people), to the gabarayam (men), and to the nashayam (women), even to all the im (nation / people) who had given him an dabar (word / matter), amar (said),

“The qatar (incense) that you qatar (burned) in the iray (cities) of Yahawadah (Judah), and in the chatzawath (streets) of Yarawashalam (Jerusalem), you and your ab (father), your malak (king) and your shar (prince / ruler), and the im (nation / people) of the aratz (Earth/land), didn't Yahawah () zakar (remember) them, and didn't it ilah (go up / offer) into his lab (heart)?

So that Yahawah () yakal (could) no longer nashaa (lift), panayam (face) of the rai (evil) of your mailal (doings), and panayam (face) of the thawaibath (abominations) which you ishah (make) committed; therefore your aratz (Earth/land) has become a desolation, and an shamah (astonishment), and a qalalah (curse), without yashab (inhabit/dwell), as it is this yawam (day).

Panayam (face) you have qatar (burned) incense, and because you have chataa (sinned) against Yahawah (), and have not shamai (hearken / hear) the qawal (sound / voice) of Yahawah (), nor halak (move) in his thawarah (instruction), nor in his chaqah (statutes), nor in his idawath (testimonies); therefore this rai (evil) has qaraa (called) to you, as it is this yawam (day).”

Moreover Yaramayah (Jeremiah) amar (spoke) to all the im (nation / people), and to all the nashayam (women), “shamai (hearken / hear) the dabar (word / matter) of Yahawah (), all Yahawadah (Judah) who are in the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Egypt):

Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah () of tzabaawath (armies), the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel), amar (spoke), ‘You and your wives have both dabar (word / matter) with your pah (mouths), and with your yad (hand) malaa (have) fulfilled it, amar (spoke), “We will ishah (make) ishah (make) our nadar (vow) that we have nadar (make vow), to qatar (burn) incense to the malakath (queen) of the sky, and to nasak (pour) out drink nasakayam (offerings) to her:” “‘qawam (rise up) then your nadar (vow), and ishah (make) your nadar (vow).’

“Therefore shamai (hearken / hear) the dabar (word / matter) of Yahawah (), all Yahawadah (Judah) who yashab (inhabit/dwell) in the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Egypt): ‘Behold, I have shabai (swear / take oath) by my gadawal (very great/important/mighty) sham (name),’ amar (spoke) Yahawah (), ‘that my sham (name) shall no more be qaraa (called) in the pah (mouth) of any ayash (man / husband) of Yahawadah (Judah) in all the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Egypt), amar (spoke), “As the Adanay () Yahawah () chay (life).”

Behold, I shaqad (watch) over them for rai (evil), and not for tawab (good / proper function); and all the ayash (man / husband) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) who are in the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt) shall be thamam (consumed) by the charab (sword) and by the raib (famine), until they are all gone.

Those who palayat (escape) the charab (sword) shall shawab (turn) out of the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt) into the aratz (Earth/land) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah), math (few) in masapar (number); and all the shaarayath (remnant) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah), who bawaa (bring) gone into the aratz (Earth/land) of Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt) to live there, shall yadai (know) whose dabar (word / matter) shall qawam (rise up), mine, or theirs.

“‘This shall be the awath (sign / mark / miracle) to you,’ naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (), ‘that I will paqad (visit) you in this maqawam (place), that you may yadai (know) that my dabar (word / matter) shall qawam (rise up) qawam (rise up) against you for rai (evil):’

Thus amar (spoke) Yahawah (), ‘Behold, I will nathan (give) Paraihachaparai (Pharaoh Hophra) malak (king) of Matzarayam (Egypt) into the yad (hand) of his ayab (enemy), and into the yad (hand) of those who baqash (seek) his napash (soul); as I nathan (give) Tzadaqayah (Zedekiah) malak (king) of Yahawadah (Judah) into the yad (hand) of Nabawakadanaatzar (Nebuchadnezzar) malak (king) of Babal (Babylon), who was his ayab (enemy), and baqash (sought) his napash (soul).’”
