Joel 2 — English–Hebrew Parallel

Thaqai (blow / sound alarm) the shawapar (Shofar / Ram's horn) in Tzayawan (Zion), and rawai (sound) an alarm in my qadash (set apart / make holy) har (mountain)! Let all the yashabay (inhabitants) of the aratz (Earth/land) ragaz (tremble), for the yawam (day) of Yahawah () bawaa (come), for it is close at qarawab (hand):

A yawam (day) of chashak (darkness) and apalah (gloominess), a yawam (day) of inan (cloud) and irapal (thick) darkness. As the dawn parash (spreading) on the harayam (mountains), a rab (great) and itzawam (strong) im (nation / people); there has iwalam (eternity) been the like, neither will there be any more achar (other) them, even to the shanay (second) of many dawar (generation / age / period).

A ash (fire) akal (eat) panayam (face) them, and achar (other) them, a lahabah (flame) lahat (burns). The aratz (Earth/land) is as the gan (garden) of Idan (Idan / Eden) panayam (face) them, and achar (other) them, a shamamah (desolate) madabar (wilderness). Yes, and no one has palayatah (escaped) them.

Their maraah (appearance) is as the maraah (appearance) of sawasayam (horses), and as horsemen, so do they rawatz (run).

Like the qawal (sound / voice) of marakabawath (chariots) on the raashay (tops) of the harayam (mountains) do they raqad (leap), like the qawal (sound / voice) of a lahab (flame) of ash (fire) that akal (eat) the qash (stubble), as a itzawam (strong) im (nation / people) set in malachamah (battle) irak (array).

At their panayam (face) the imayam (peoples) are in anguish. All panayam (face) have grown pale.

They rawatz (run) like gabawar (mighty) men. They ilah (go up / offer) the chawamah (wall) like malachamah (warriors). They ayash (man / husband) yalak (march) in his line, and they don't swerve off course.

Neither does ayash (man / husband) jostle ach (brother/kinsman); they yalak (march) everyone in his masalah (path), and they burst through the defenses, and don't break ranks.

They rush on the iyar (city). They rawatz (run) on the chawamah (wall). They ilah (go up / offer) up into the bathayam (houses). They bawaa (bring) in at the chalawanayam (windows) like thieves.

The aratz (Earth/land) ragaz (quakes) panayam (face) them. The shamayam (Shamayam / Heavens) raish (tremble). The shamash (sun) and the yarach (moon) are qadar (darkened), and the kawakabayam (stars) asap (withdraw) their nagah (shining).

Yahawah () thunders his qawal (sound / voice) panayam (face) his chayal (army); for his forces are very rab (great); for he is itzawam (strong) who obeys his command; for the yawam (day) of Yahawah () is gadawal (very great/important/mighty) and very awesome, and who kawal (all) endure it?

“Yet even now,” naam (declares prophetically) Yahawah (), “shawab (turn back / repent) to me with all your labab (heart), and with tzawam (fasting), and with bakay (weeping), and with masapad (mourning).”

Qarai (tear) your labab (heart), and not your bagad (garments), and shawab (turn back / repent) to Yahawah (), your Alahayam (); for he is chanawan (gracious) and rachawam (merciful), arak (slow) to ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting), and abundant in loving chasad (grace), and relents from sending rai (calamity).

Who yadai (knows)? He may shawab (turn back / repent) and relent, and shaar (leave) a barakah (blessing) achar (other) him, even a meal manachah (offering) and a drink nasak (offering) to Yahawah (), your Alahayam ().

Thaqai (blow / sound alarm) the shawapar (Shofar / Ram's horn) in Tzayawan (Zion)! Qadash (set apart / make holy) a tzawam (fast). Qaraa (called) a solemn itzarah (assembly).

Asap (gather) the im (nation / people). Qadash (set apart / make holy) the qahal (assembly). Qabatz (assemble) the zaqanayam (elders). Asap (gather) the iwalalayam (children), and those who yanaq (nurse) from shadayam (breasts). Let the chathan (bridegroom) yatzaa (go out / come out) forth from his room, and the kalah (complete / finish) out of her room.

Let the kahanayam (priests), the masharathay (ministers) of Yahawah (), bakah (weep) between the awalam (porch) and the mazabach (altar), and let them amar (spoke), “chawas (spare) your imayam (people), Yahawah (), and don't nathan (give) your nachalah (heritage) to charapah (reproach), that the gawayam (nations) should mashal (rule/have dominion) over them. Why should they amar (spoke) among the imayam (peoples), ‘Where is their Alahayam ()?’”

Then Yahawah () was qanaa (jealous) for his aratz (Earth/land), And chamal (had) pity on his im (nation / people).

Yahawah () inah (answer / respond) his im (nation / people), “Behold, I will shalach (send) you grain, new thayarawash (wine), and yatzahar (fresh oil), and you will be shabai (satisfied) with them; and I will no more nathan (give) you a charapah (reproach) among the gawayam (nations).

But I will remove the tzapawanay (northern) army rachaq (far) away from you, and will nadach (drive) it into a tzayah (barren) and shamamah (desolate) aratz (Earth/land), its panayam (face) into the eastern yam (sea/waters), and its back into the western yam (sea/waters); and its stench will ilah (go up / offer) up, and its bad smell will ilah (go up / offer).” Ishah (make) he has done gadal (great) things.

Adamah (land), don't be yaraa (fear / be afraid). Be gayal (glad) and shamach (rejoice), for Yahawah () ishah (make) done gadal (great) things.

Don't be yaraa (fear / be afraid), you animals of the shadah (field); for the naawath (pastures) of the madabar (wilderness) dashaa (spring) up, for the itz (tree) nashaa (lift) its paray (fruit). The thaan (fig) tree and the gapan (vine) nathan (give) their chayal (wealth / substance / capability / valor).

“Be gayal (glad) then, you banay (children) of Tzayawan (Zion), and shamach (rejoice) in Yahawah (), your Alahayam (); for he nathan (give) you the former mawarah (rain) in just measure, and he causes the gasham (rain) to yarad (come) down for you, the former mawarah (rain) and the malaqawash (latter) rain, as raashawan (before).

The garan (threshing) floors will be malaa (full) of bar (wheat), and the vats will shawaq (overflow) with new thayarawash (wine) and yatzahar (fresh oil).

I will shalam (restore) to you the shanayam (two) that the swarming arabah (locust) has akal (eat), the great locust, the grasshopper, and the caterpillar, my gadawal (very great/important/mighty) chayal (wealth / substance / capability / valor), which I shalach (send) among you.

You will have akal (eat) to akal (eat), and be shabai (satisfied), and will halal (praise) the sham (name) of Yahawah (), your Alahayam (), who ishah (make) dealt wondrously with you; and my im (nation / people) will iwalam (forever) again be disappointed.

You yadai (will) know that I am in the qarab (among / near) of Yashar-Al (Israel), and that I am Yahawah (), your Alahayam (), and there is no one else; and my im (nation / people) will iwalam (forever) again be disappointed.
