Joshua 10 — English–Hebrew Parallel

Now it happened when Adanayatzadaq (Adoni-Zedek) malak (king) of Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem) shamai (hearken / hear) kay (surely) Yahawashawai (Joshua) had lakad (taken) Iy (Ai), and charam (had) utterly destroyed it; as he ishah (make) done to Yarayachaw (Jericho) and her malak (king), so he ishah (make) done to Iy (Ai) and her malak (king); and how the yashabay (inhabitants) of Gabaiwan (Gibeon) had made shalam (peace) with Yashar-Al (Israel), and were qarab (among / near) them;

That they were very yaraa (fear / be afraid), because Gabaiwan (Gibeon) was a gadawal (very great/important/mighty) iyar (city), as achad (one) of the mamalakah (royal) iray (cities), and because it was greater than Iy (Ai), and all its gadawal (very great/important/mighty) were gabawar (mighty).

Therefore Adanayatzadaq (Adoni-Zedek) malak (king) of Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem) shalach (send) to Hawaham (Hoham) malak (king) of Chabarawan (Hebron), to Paraam (Piram) malak (king) of Yaramawath (Jarmuth), to Yapayai (Japhia) malak (king) of Lakayash (Lachish), and to Dabayar (Debir) malak (king) of Igalawan (Eglon), amar (said),

“Ilah (go up / offer) up to me, and izar (help) me, and let us nakah (strike) Gabaiwan (Gibeon); for it has made shalam (peace) with Yahawashawai (Joshua) and with the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel).”

Therefore the chamash (five) malakay (kings) of the Amaray (Amaray / Amorite), the malak (king) of Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem), the malak (king) of Chabarawan (Hebron), the malak (king) of Yaramawath (Jarmuth), the malak (king) of Lakayash (Lachish), the malak (king) of Igalawan (Eglon), asap (gathered) themselves together, and ilah (go up / offer) up, they and all their machanah (armies), and chanah (encamped) against Gabaiwan (Gibeon), and made lacham (war) against it.

The anashay (men) of Gabaiwan (Gibeon) shalach (send) to Yahawashawai (Joshua) to the machanah (camp) to Galagal (Gilgal), amar (said), “Don't abandon your ibad (servant)! Ilah (go up / offer) up to us maharah (quickly), and yashai (salvation) us, and izar (help) us; for all the malakay (kings) of the Amaray (Amaray / Amorite) that yashab (inhabit/dwell) in the har (mountain) country have qabatz (gathered) together against us.”

So Yahawashawai (Joshua) ilah (go up / offer) up from Galagal (Gilgal), he, and all the im (nation / people) of malachamah (war) with him, and all the gabawar (mighty) chayal (wealth / substance / capability / valor) of valor.

Yahawah () amar (spoke) to Yahawashawai (Joshua), “Don't yaraa (fear / be afraid) them, for I nathan (give) delivered them into your yad (hand). Not a ayash (man / husband) of them will imad (stand) panayam (face) you.”

Yahawashawai (Joshua) therefore bawaa (bring) on them pathaawam (suddenly). He ilah (go up / offer) up from Galagal (Gilgal) all layal (night).

Yahawah () confused them panayam (face) Yashar-Al (Israel), and he nakah (killed) them with a gadawal (very great/important/mighty) makah (slaughter) at Gabaiwan (Gibeon), and radap (chased) them by the darak (way) of the ascent of Bayathachawarawan (Beth Horon), and nakah (struck) them to Izaqah (Azekah) and to Maqadah (Makkedah).

It happened, as they nawas (fled) from panayam (face) Yashar-Al (Israel), while they were at the descent of Bayathachawarawan (Beth Horon), that Yahawah () cast down gadawal (very great/important/mighty) abanayam (stones) from the sky on them to Izaqah (Azekah), and they mawath (death). There were more who mawath (death) from the hailstones than who the banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel) harag (kill) with the charab (sword).

Then Yahawashawai (Joshua) dabar (word / matter) to Yahawah () in the yawam (day) when Yahawah () nathan (give) up the Amaray (Amorites) panayam (face) the banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel); and he amar (spoke) in the iyan (eye) of Yashar-Al (Israel), “shamash (sun), stand still on Gabaiwan (Gibeon)! You, yarach (moon), stop in the imaq (valley) of Ayalawan (Aijalon)!”

The shamash (sun) stood still, and the yarach (moon) imad (stayed), until the gaway (heathen / nation) had naqam (avenged) themselves of their ayab (enemy). Isn't hawaa (which/who/that is) kathab (write) in the sapar (book / scribed document) of Jashar? The shamash (sun) imad (stayed) in the chatzay (midst) of the sky, and didn't hurry to bawaa (bring) down about a thamayam (complete / whole) yawam (day).

There was no yawam (day) like that panayam (face) it or achar (other) it, that Yahawah () shamai (hearken / hear) to the qawal (sound / voice) of a ayash (man / husband); for Yahawah () lacham (fought) for Yashar-Al (Israel).

Yahawashawai (Joshua) shawab (turn), and all Yashar-Al (Israel) with him, to the machanah (camp) to Galagal (Gilgal).

These chamash (five) malakayam (kings) nawas (fled), and chabaa (hid) themselves in the mairah (cave) at Maqadah (Makkedah).

Yahawashawai (Joshua) was nagad (told), amar (said), “The chamash (five) malakayam (kings) are matzaa (found), chabaa (hidden) in the mairah (cave) at Maqadah (Makkedah).”

Yahawashawai (Joshua) amar (said), “galal (roll) large abanayam (stones) to the pah (mouth) of the mairah (cave), and paqad (visit) gadalawath (men) by it to guard them;

But don't imad (stay). Radap (pursue) your ayab (enemy), and strike them from the rear. Don't allow them to bawaa (come) into their iyar (cities); for Yahawah () your Alahayam () nathan (give) delivered them into your yad (hand).”

It happened, when Yahawashawai (Joshua) and the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel) kalah (complete / finish) finished nakah (killing) them with a very gadawal (very great/important/mighty) makah (slaughter) until they were thamam (consumed), and the sharayad (remnant) which sharad (remained) of them bawaa (bring) entered into the fortified iray (cities),

That all the im (nation / people) shawab (turn) to the machanah (camp) to Yahawashawai (Joshua) at Maqadah (Makkedah) in shalawam (peace / safety). None charatz (moved) his lashawan (tongue / language) against any of the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel).

Then Yahawashawai (Joshua) amar (said), “pathach (open) the pah (mouth) of the mairah (cave), and bring those chamash (five) malakayam (kings) out of the mairah (cave) to me.”

They ishah (make) so, and brought those chamash (five) malakayam (kings) out of the mairah (cave) to him: the malak (king) of Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem), the malak (king) of Chabarawan (Hebron), the malak (king) of Yaramawath (Jarmuth), the malak (king) of Lakayash (Lachish), and the malak (king) of Igalawan (Eglon).

It happened, when they brought those malakayam (kings) out to Yahawashawai (Joshua), that Yahawashawai (Joshua) qaraa (called) for all the anashay (men) of Yashar-Al (Israel), and amar (said) to the chiefs of the anashay (men) of malachamah (war) who halak (move) with him, “qarab (come close) near, shawam (place / establish / appoint) your ragal (feet / foot) on the tzawaaray (necks) of these malakayam (kings).” They qarab (come close) near, and shawam (place / establish / appoint) their ragal (feet / foot) on their tzawaaray (necks).

Yahawashawai (Joshua) amar (spoke) to them, “Don't be yaraa (fear / be afraid), nor be chathath (dismayed). Be chazaq (strong) and amatz (courageous), for Yahawah () will ishah (make) this to all your ayab (enemy) against whom you lacham (fight).”

Afterward Yahawashawai (Joshua) nakah (struck) them, put them to mawath (death), and hanged them on chamash (five) itzayam (trees). They were thalah (hanging) on the itzayam (trees) until the irab (evening).

It happened at the ith (time) of the bawaa (bring) down of the shamash (sun), that Yahawashawai (Joshua) tzawah (commanded), and they yarad (took) them down off the itzayam (trees), and shalak (cast) them into the mairah (cave) in which they had chabaa (hidden) themselves, and shawam (place / establish / appoint) gadawal (very great/important/mighty) abanayam (stones) on the pah (mouth) of the mairah (cave), which remain to this very yawam (day).

Yahawashawai (Joshua) lakad (took) Maqadah (Makkedah) on that yawam (day), and nakah (struck) it with the pah (edge) of the charab (sword), with its malak (king). He charam (utterly) destroyed them and all the napash (soul) who were in it. He shaar (left) none sharayad (remaining). He ishah (make) to the malak (king) of Maqadah (Makkedah) as he ishah (make) done to the malak (king) of Yarayachaw (Jericho).

Yahawashawai (Joshua) ibar (pass over/through) from Maqadah (Makkedah), and all Yashar-Al (Israel) with him, to Labanah (Libnah), and lacham (fought) against Labanah (Libnah).

Yahawah () nathan (give) it also, with its malak (king), into the yad (hand) of Yashar-Al (Israel). He nakah (struck) it with the pah (edge) of the charab (sword), and all the napash (soul) who were in it. He shaar (left) none sharayad (remaining) in it. He ishah (make) to its malak (king) as he ishah (make) done to the malak (king) of Yarayachaw (Jericho).

Yahawashawai (Joshua) ibar (pass over/through) from Labanah (Libnah), and all Yashar-Al (Israel) with him, to Lakayash (Lachish), and chanah (encamped) against it, and lacham (fought) against it.

Yahawah () nathan (give) Lakayash (Lachish) into the yad (hand) of Yashar-Al (Israel). He lakad (took) it on the shanay (second) yawam (day), and nakah (struck) it with the pah (edge) of the charab (sword), with all the napash (soul) who were in it, according to all that he ishah (make) done to Labanah (Libnah).

Then Haram (Horam) malak (king) of Gazar (Gezer) ilah (go up / offer) up to izar (help) Lakayash (Lachish); and Yahawashawai (Joshua) nakah (struck) him and his im (nation / people), until he had shaar (left) him none sharayad (remaining).

Yahawashawai (Joshua) ibar (pass over/through) from Lakayash (Lachish), and all Yashar-Al (Israel) with him, to Igalawan (Eglon); and they chanah (encamped) against it lacham (fought) against it.

They lakad (took) it on that yawam (day), and nakah (struck) it with the pah (edge) of the charab (sword). He charam (utterly) destroyed all the napash (soul) who were in it that yawam (day), according to all that he ishah (make) done to Lakayash (Lachish).

Yahawashawai (Joshua) ilah (go up / offer) up from Igalawan (Eglon), and all Yashar-Al (Israel) with him, to Chabarawan (Hebron); and they lacham (fought) against it.

They lakad (took) it, and nakah (struck) it with the pah (edge) of the charab (sword), with its malak (king) and all its iyar (cities), and all the napash (soul) who were in it. He shaar (left) none sharayad (remaining), according to all that he ishah (make) done to Igalawan (Eglon); but he charam (utterly) destroyed it, and all the napash (soul) who were in it.

Yahawashawai (Joshua) shawab (turn), and all Yashar-Al (Israel) with him, to Dabayar (Debir), and lacham (fought) against it.

He lakad (took) it, with its malak (king) and all its iyar (cities). They nakah (struck) them with the pah (edge) of the charab (sword), and charam (utterly) destroyed all the napash (soul) who were in it. He shaar (left) none sharayad (remaining). As he ishah (make) done to Chabarawan (Hebron), so he ishah (make) to Dabayar (Debir), and to its malak (king); as he ishah (make) done also to Labanah (Libnah), and to its malak (king).

So Yahawashawai (Joshua) nakah (struck) all the aratz (Earth/land), the hill aratz (Earth/land), and the nagab (south), and the lowland, and the slopes, and all their malak (king). He shaar (left) none sharayad (remaining), but he charam (utterly) destroyed all that nashamah (breathing thing), as Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel), tzawah (commanded).

Yahawashawai (Joshua) nakah (struck) them from Qadash-Baranai (Kadesh Barnea) even to Izah (Gaza), and all the aratz (Earth/land) of Gashan (Goshen), even to Gabaiwan (Gibeon).

Yahawashawai (Joshua) lakad (took) all these malakayam (kings) and their aratz (Earth/land) at achad (one) paim (time), because Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel), lacham (fought) for Yashar-Al (Israel).

Yahawashawai (Joshua) shawab (turn), and all Yashar-Al (Israel) with him, to the machanah (camp) to Galagal (Gilgal).
