Joshua 15 — English–Hebrew Parallel

1 The gawaral (lot) for the matah (staff / rod / tribe) of the banay (my son) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) according to their mashapachah (tribe / clan / family) was to the gabawal (border/boundary) of Adawam (Edom), even to the madabar (wilderness) of Tzan (Zin) southward, at the uttermost part of the thayaman (south).

2 Their nagab (south) gabawal (border/boundary) was from the uttermost part of the malach (salt) yam (sea/waters), from the lashawan (tongue / language) that panah (turn) southward;

3 And it yatzaa (go out / come out) out southward of the ascent of mailahaiqarabayam (akrabbim), and ibar (pass over/through) along to Tzan (Zin), and ilah (go up / offer) up by the south of Qadash-Baranai (Kadesh Barnea), and ibar (pass over/through) along by Chatzarawan (Hezron), ilah (go up / offer) up to Adar (Addar), and sabab (turned) about to Qaraqai (Karka);

4 And it ibar (pass over/through) along to Itzamawan (Azmon), yatzaa (go out / come out) out at the nachal (stream / river) of Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt); and the gabawal (border/boundary) ended at the yam (sea/waters). This shall be your nagab (south) gabawal (border/boundary).

5 The qadam (east) gabawal (border/boundary) was the malach (salt) yam (sea/waters), even to the qatzah (end / extremity / border) of the Yaradan (Jordan). The gabawal (border/boundary) of the tzapawan (north) paah (quarter) was from the lashawan (tongue / language) of the yam (sea/waters) at the qatzah (end / extremity / border) of the Yaradan (Jordan).

6 The gabawal (border/boundary) ilah (go up / offer) up to Bayathachagalah (Beth Hoglah), and ibar (pass over/through) along by the tzapawan (north) of Bayathahairabah (Beth Arabah); and the gabawal (border/boundary) ilah (go up / offer) up to the aban (stone) of Bahan (Bohan) the ban (son) of Raawaban (Reuben).

7 The gabawal (border/boundary) ilah (go up / offer) up to Dabayar (Debir) from the imaq (valley) of Ikawar (Achor), and so northward, panah (turn) toward Galagal (Gilgal), that is over nakach (against) the mailah (ascent) of Adamayam (Adummim), which is on the nagab (south) side of the nachal (stream / river). The gabawal (border/boundary) ibar (pass over/through) along to the may (waters) of Iyanashamash (En Shemesh), and ended at Iyanaragal (En Rogel).

8 The gabawal (border/boundary) ilah (go up / offer) up by the gayaa (valley) of the ban (son) of Hanam (Hinnom) to the kathap (side) of the Yabawasay (Jebusite) southward (the same is Yarawashalam (Jerusalem)); and the gabawal (border/boundary) ilah (go up / offer) up to the raash (head) of the har (mountain) that lies panayam (face) the gayaa (valley) of Hanam (Hinnom) westward, which is at the farthest part of the imaq (valley) of Rapaa (Rephaim) northward.

9 The gabawal (border/boundary) extended from the raash (head) of the har (mountain) to the maiyan (spring) of the may (waters) of Napathawach (Nephtoah), and yatzaa (go out / come out) out to the iray (cities) of har (mountain) Iparawan (Ephron); and the gabawal (border/boundary) extended to Bailah (Baalah) (the same is Kiriath Qarayath-Yairayam (Jearim));

10 And the gabawal (border/boundary) sabab (turned) about from Bailah (Baalah) westward to har (mountain) Shaiyar (Seir), and ibar (pass over/through) along to the kathap (side) of har (mountain) Yairayam (Jearim) on the tzapawan (north) (the same is Kasalawan (Chesalon)), and yarad (went) down to Bayath-Shamash (Beth Shemesh), and ibar (pass over/through) along by Thamanah (Timnah);

11 And the gabawal (border/boundary) yatzaa (go out / come out) out to the kathap (side) of Iqarawan (Ekron) northward; and the gabawal (border/boundary) extended to Shakarawan (Shikkeron), and ibar (pass over/through) along to har (mountain) Bailah (Baalah), and yatzaa (go out / come out) out at Yaban-Al (Jabneel); and the yatzaa (go out / come out) out of the gabawal (border/boundary) were at the yam (sea/waters).

12 The yam (sea/waters) gabawal (border/boundary) was to the shore of the gadawal (very great/important/mighty) yam (sea/waters). This is the gabawal (border/boundary) of the banay (my son) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) according to their mashapachah (tribe / clan / family).

13 To Kalab (Caleb) the ban (son) of Yapanah (Jephunneh) he nathan (give) a chalaq (portion) thawak (midst) the banay (children) of Yahawadah (Judah), al (toward) to the commandment of Yahawah () to Yahawashawai (Joshua), even Kiriath qarayathaarabai (arba), named after the ab (father) of Inaq (Anak) (the same is Chabarawan (Hebron)).

14 Kalab (Caleb) yarash (drove) out the shalawash (three) banay (my son) of Inaq (Anak): Shashay (Sheshai), and Achayaman (Ahiman), and Thalamay (Talmai), the yalayaday (children) of Inaq (Anak).

15 He ilah (go up / offer) up against the yashabay (inhabitants) of Dabayar (Debir): now the sham (name) of Dabayar (Debir) panayam (face) was Kiriath Qarayathasanah (Sepher).

16 Kalab (Caleb) amar (said), “He who nakah (strikes) Kiriath Qarayathasanah (Sepher), and lakad (takes) it, to him will I nathan (give) Ikasah (Achsah) my banath (daughter) as ayashah (woman / wife).”

17 Ithanayaal (Othniel) the ban (son) of Qanaz (Kenaz), the ach (brother/kinsman) of Kalab (Caleb), lakad (took) it: and he nathan (give) him Ikasah (Achsah) his banath (daughter) as ayashah (woman / wife).

18 It happened, when she bawaa (bring), that she had him shaal (ask) her ab (father) for a shadah (field). She got off of her donkey, and Kalab (Caleb) amar (said), “What do you want?”

19 She amar (said), “nathan (give) me a barakah (blessing). Because you nathan (give) set me in the aratz (Earth/land) of the nagab (south), nathan (give) me also galath (springs) of mayam (Waters).” He nathan (give) her the ilay (went up) galath (springs) and the lower galath (springs).

20 This is the nachalah (inheritance) of the matah (staff / rod / tribe) of the banay (my son) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) according to their mashapachah (tribe / clan / family).

21 The farthest irayam (cities) of the matah (staff / rod / tribe) of the banay (my son) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) toward the gabawal (border/boundary) of Adawam (Edom) in the nagab (south) were Qabatzaal (Kabzeel), Idar (Eder), Yagawar (Jagur),

22 Qayanah (Kinah), Dayamawanah (Dimonah), Idaidah (Adadah),

23 Qadash (set apart / make holy), Chatzawar (Hazor), Yathanan (Ithnan),

24 Zayap (Ziph), Talam (Telem), Bailawath (Bealoth),

33 In the lowland, Ashathaal (Eshtaol), Tzaraih (Zorah), Ashanah (Ashnah),

34 Zanawach (Zanoah), Iyanaganayam (En Gannim), Thapawach (Tappuah), Iyanayam (Enam),

35 Yaramawath (Jarmuth), Idalam (Adullam), Shawakah (Socoh), Izaqah (Azekah),

36 Shairayam (Shaaraim), Idayathayam (Adithaim) and Gadarah (Gederah) (or Gadarathayam (Gederothaim)); fourteen irayam (cities) with their chatzar (villages).

37 Tzanan (Zenan), Chadashah (Hadashah), Magadalagad (Migdal Gad),

38 Dalain (Dilean), Matzapah (Mizpeh), Yaqathaal (Joktheel),

39 Lakayash (Lachish), Batzaqath (Bozkath), Igalawan (Eglon),

40 Kabawan (Cabbon), Lachamas (Lahmam), Kathalayash (Chitlish),

41 Gadarawath (Gederoth), Bayathadagawan (Beth Dagon), Naimah (Naamah), and Maqadah (Makkedah); sixteen irayam (cities) with their chatzar (villages).

42 Labanah (Libnah), Ithar (Ether), Ishan (Ashan),

43 Yapathach (Iphtah), Ashanah (Ashnah), Natzayab (Nezib),

44 Qaiyalah (Keilah), Akazayab (Achzib), and Maraashah (Mareshah); thashai (nine) irayam (cities) with their chatzar (villages).

45 Iqarawan (Ekron), with its banath (daughter) and its chatzar (villages);

46 From Iqarawan (Ekron) even to the yam (sea/waters), all that were by the side of Ashadawad (Ashdod), with their chatzar (villages).

47 Ashadawad (Ashdod), its banath (daughter) and its chatzar (villages); Izah (Gaza), its banath (daughter) and its chatzar (villages); to the nachal (stream / river) of Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt), and the gabawal (border/boundary) yam (sea/waters) with its coastline.

48 In the har (mountain) country, Shamayar (Shamir), Yathayar (Jattir), Shawakah (Socoh),

49 Danah (Dannah), Kiriath Qarayathasanah (Sannah) (which is Dabayar (Debir)),

50 Inab (Anab), Ashathamai (Eshtemoh), Inayam (Anim),

51 Gashan (Goshen), Chalawan (Holon), and Galah (Giloh); achad (one) irayam (cities) with their chatzar (villages).

52 Arab (Arab), Dawamah (Dumah), Ashain (Eshan),

53 Yanayam (Janim), Bayathathapawach (Beth Tappuah), Apaqah (Aphekah),

54 Chamatah (Humtah), Kiriath Qarayathaarabai (Arba) (the same is Chabarawan (Hebron)), and Tzayair (Zior); thashai (nine) irayam (cities) with their chatzar (villages).

55 Maiwan (maon), Karamal (Carmel), Zayap (Ziph), Yatah (Jutah),

56 Yazaraial (Jezreel), Yaqadaim (Jokdeam), Zanawach (Zanoah),

57 Qayan (Kain), Gabaih (Gibeah), and Thamanah (Timnah); ishar (ten) irayam (cities) with their chatzar (villages).

58 Chalachawal (Halhul), Bayathatzawar (Beth Zur), Gadar (Gedor),

59 Mairath (Maarath), Bayathainawath (Beth Anoth), and Alathaqan (Eltekon); shash (six) irayam (cities) with their chatzar (villages).

60 Qarayathabail (Kiriath Baal) (the same is Kiriath Qarayath-Yairayam (Jearim)), and Rabah (Rabbah); shanayam (two) irayam (cities) with their chatzar (villages).

61 In the madabar (wilderness), Bayathahairabah (Beth Arabah), Madayan (Middin), Sakakah (Secacah),

62 Nabashan (Nibshan), the Iyar-HaMalach (City of Salt), and Iyan-Gaday (En Gedi); shash (six) irayam (cities) with their chatzar (villages).

63 As for the Yabawasay (Jebusites), the yawashabay (inhabitants) of Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem), the banay (my son) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) couldn't yarash (drive) them out; but the Yabawasay (Jebusites) live with the banay (my son) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah) at Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem) to this yawam (day).
