Joshua 17 — English–Hebrew Parallel

This was the gawaral (lot) for the matah (staff / rod / tribe) of Manashah (Manasseh), for he was the bakawar (firstborn) of Yawasap (Joseph). As for Makayar (Machir) the bakawar (firstborn) of Manashah (Manasseh), the ab (father) of Galaid (Gilead), because he was a ayash (man / husband) of malachamah (war), therefore he had Galaid (Gilead) and Bashan (Bashan).

So this was for the yathar (rest) of the banay (my son) of Manashah (Manasseh) according to their mashapachah (tribe / clan / family): for the banay (my son) of Abayaizar (Abiezer), for the banay (my son) of Chalaq (Helek), for the banay (my son) of Asharayaal (Asriel), for the banay (my son) of Shakam (Shechem), for the banay (my son) of Chapar (Hepher), and for the banay (my son) of Shamayadai (Shemida): these were the zakar (remember) banay (my son) of Manashah (Manasseh) the ban (son) of Yawasap (Joseph) according to their mashapachah (tribe / clan / family).

But Tzalapachad (Zelophehad), the ban (son) of Chapar (Hepher), the ban (son) of Galaid (Gilead), the ban (son) of Makayar (Machir), the ban (son) of Manashah (Manasseh), had no banayam (sons), but banawath (daughters): and these are the shamawath (names) of his banawath (daughters): Machalah (Mahlah), Naih (Noah), Chagalah (Hoglah), Malakah (Milcah), and Tharatzah (Tirzah).

They qarab (come close) near panayam (face) Alaizar (Eleazar) the kahan (priest), and panayam (face) Yahawashawai (Joshua) the ban (son) of Nawan (Nun), and panayam (face) the nashayaayam (princes), amar (spoke), “Yahawah () tzawah (commanded) Mashah (Moses) to nathan (give) us an nachalah (inheritance) thawak (midst) our achay (brothers).” Therefore pah (according) to the commandment of Yahawah () he nathan (give) them an nachalah (inheritance) thawak (midst) the achay (brothers) of their ab (father).

Ishar (ten) parts napal (fall / be cast down) to Manashah (Manasseh), besides the aratz (Earth/land) of Galaid (Gilead) and Bashan (Bashan), which is ibar (beyond) the Yaradan (Jordan);

Because the banawath (daughters) of Manashah (Manasseh) nachal (had) an nachalah (inheritance) thawak (midst) his banay (my son). The aratz (Earth/land) of Galaid (Gilead) belonged to the yathar (rest) of the banay (my son) of Manashah (Manasseh).

The gabawal (border/boundary) of Manashah (Manasseh) was from Ashar (who/that) to Makamathath (Michmethath), which is panayam (face) Shakam (Shechem). The gabawal (border/boundary) halak (move) along to the right yamayan (right hand), to the yashabay (inhabitants) of Iyanathapawach (En Tappuah).

The aratz (Earth/land) of Thapawach (Tappuah) belonged to Manashah (Manasseh); but Thapawach (Tappuah) on the gabawal (border/boundary) of Manashah (Manasseh) belonged to the banay (my son) of Aparayam (Ephraim).

The gabawal (border/boundary) yarad (went) down to the nachal (stream / river) of Qanah (Kanah), southward of the nachal (stream / river). These irayam (cities) belonged to Aparayam (Ephraim) thawak (midst) the irayam (cities) of Manashah (Manasseh). The gabawal (border/boundary) of Manashah (Manasseh) was on the tzapawan (north) side of the nachal (stream / river), and ended at the yam (sea/waters).

Southward it was Aparayam (Ephraim's), and northward it was Manashah (Manasseh's), and the yam (sea/waters) was his gabawal (border/boundary). They pagai (reached) to Ashar (who/that) on the tzapawan (north), and to Yashashakar (Issachar) on the mazarach (east).

Manashah (Manasseh) had shalawash (three) heights in Yashashakar (Issachar), in Ashar (who/that) Bayath-Shaan (Beth Shean) and its banath (daughter), and Yabalaim (Ibleam) and its banath (daughter), and the yashabay (inhabitants) of Dawar (Dor) and its banath (daughter), and the yashabay (inhabitants) of Iyan-Daar (Endor) and its banath (daughter), and the yashabay (inhabitants) of Thainak (Taanach) and its banath (daughter), and the yashabay (inhabitants) of Magadawan (Megiddo) and its banath (daughter).

Yet the banay (my son) of Manashah (Manasseh) couldn't yarash (drive) out the inhabitants of those irayam (cities); but the Kanainay (Canaanite) yaal (would) yashab (inhabit/dwell) in that aratz (Earth/land).

It happened, when the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel) had grown chazaq (strong), that they nathan (give) the Kanainay (Canaanite) to forced mas (labor), and didn't yarash (utterly) yarash (drive) them out.

The banay (children) of Yawasap (Joseph) dabar (word / matter) to Yahawashawai (Joshua), amar (spoke), “Why nathan (give) you given me just achad (one) gawaral (lot) and achad (one) part for an nachalah (inheritance), since I am a rab (great) im (nation / people), because Yahawah () has barak (blessed) me so far?”

Yahawashawai (Joshua) amar (said) to them, “If you are a rab (great) im (nation / people), ilah (go up / offer) up to the yair (forest), and clear aratz (Earth/land) for yourself there in the land of the Parazay (Perizzites) and of the Rapaa (Rephaim); since the har (mountain) country of Aparayam (Ephraim) is too awatz (narrow) for you.”

The banay (my son) of Yawasap (Joseph) amar (said), “The har (mountain) country is not matzaa (enough) for us. All the Kanainay (Canaanite) who yashab (inhabit/dwell) in the aratz (Earth/land) of the imaq (valley) have rakab (chariots) of barazal (iron), both those who are in Bayath-Shaan (Beth Shean) and its banath (daughter), and those who are in the imaq (valley) of Yazaraial (Jezreel).”

Yahawashawai (Joshua) amar (said) to the bayath (house) of Yawasap (Joseph), even to Aparayam (Ephraim) and to Manashah (Manasseh), amar (said), “You are a rab (great) im (nation / people), and rab (have) great kach (strength / mighty / power). You shall not have achad (one) gawaral (lot) only;

But the har (mountain) country shall be yours. Although it is a yair (forest), you shall baraa (created) it down, and it's farthest extent shall be yours; for you shall yarash (drive) out the Kanainay (Canaanite), though they have rakab (chariots) of barazal (iron), and though they are chazaq (strong).”
