Leviticus 21 — English–Hebrew Parallel

Yahawah () amar (spoke) to Mashah (Moses), “amar (spoke) to the kahanayam (priests), the banay (sons) of Aharawan (Aaron), and amar (spoke) to them, ‘A priest shall not tamaa (defile) himself for the napash (soul) among his im (nation / people);

Except for his relatives that are qarawab (near) to him: for his am (mother), for his ab (father), for his ban (son), for his banath (daughter), for his ach (brother/kinsman),

And for his bathawalah (virgin) achawath (sister) who is qarawab (near) to him, who has had no ayash (man / husband); for her he may tamaa (defile) himself.

He shall not tamaa (defile) himself, being a chief bail (man) among his im (nation / people), to chalal (profane) himself.

“‘They shall not shave their raash (head), neither shall they galach (shave) off the paah (corners) of their zaqan (beards), nor sharat (make) any sharat (cuttings) in their bashar (flesh).

They shall be qadash (set apart / make holy) to their Alahayam (), and not chalal (profane) the sham (name) of their Alahayam (); for they qarab (come close) the ashay (offerings) of Yahawah () made by ashah (fire / offering made by fire), the lacham (bread) of their Alahayam (); therefore they shall be qadawash (holy).

“‘They shall not marry a ayashah (woman / wife) who is a prostitute, or chalal (profane); neither shall they marry a ayashah (woman / wife) garash (divorced) from her ayash (man / husband): for he is qadawash (holy) to his Alahayam ().

You shall qadash (set apart / make holy) him therefore; for he qarab (come close) the lacham (bread) of your Alahayam (): he shall be qadawash (holy) to you: for I Yahawah (), who qadash (set apart / make holy) you, am qadawash (holy).

“‘The banath (daughter) of any kahan (priest), if she chalal (profanes) herself by zanah (playing) the prostitute, she chalal (profanes) her ab (father): she shall be sharap (burned) with ash (fire).

“‘He who is the gadawal (very great/important/mighty) kahan (priest) among his ach (brother/kinsman), upon whose raash (head) the mashachah (anointing) shaman (oil) is yatzaq (poured), and that is malaa (consecrated) to labash (put) on the bagadayam (garments), shall not let the hair of his raash (head) hang loose, nor tear his clothes;

Neither shall he bawaa (bring) in to any mawath (death) napash (soul), nor tamaa (defile) himself for his ab (father), or for his am (mother);

Neither shall he yatzaa (go out / come out) out of the maqadash (sanctuary), nor chalal (profane) the maqadash (sanctuary) of his Alahayam (); for the nazar (crown / consecrate) of the mashachah (anointing) shaman (oil) of his Alahayam () is upon him. I am Yahawah ().

“‘He shall laqach (take / seize) a ayashah (woman / wife) in her bathawalayam (virginity).

A alamanah (widow), or one garash (divorced), or a woman who has been defiled, or a prostitute, these he shall not marry: but a bathawalah (virgin) of his own im (nation / people) shall he take as a ayashah (woman / wife).

He shall not chalal (profane) his zarai (seed) among his im (nation / people): for I am Yahawah () who qadash (set apart / make holy) him.’”

Yahawah () dabar (word / matter) to Mashah (Moses), amar (spoke),

“Dabar (word / matter) to Aharawan (Aaron), ‘ayash (man / husband) of your zarai (seed) throughout their dawar (generation / age / period) who has a maawam (blemish), may qarab (come close) to qarab (come close) the lacham (bread) of his Alahayam ().

For whatever ayash (man / husband) he is that has a maawam (blemish), he shall not qarab (come close) near: a iwar (blind) ayash (man / husband), or a pasach (lame), or he who charam (has) a flat nose, or any deformity,

Or a ayash (man / husband) who has an injured shabar (foot), or an injured shabar (hand),

Or hunchbacked, or a daq (dwarf), or thabalal (one) who has a defect in his iyan (eye), or an itching disease, or scabs, or who has damaged testicles;

No ayash (man / husband) of the zarai (seed) of Aharawan (Aaron) the kahan (priest) who has a maawam (blemish), shall nagash (come) near to qarab (come close) the ashay (offerings) of Yahawah () made by ashah (fire / offering made by fire). Since he has a maawam (blemish), he shall not nagash (come) near to qarab (come close) the lacham (bread) of his Alahayam ().

He shall akal (eat) the lacham (bread) of his Alahayam (), both of the most qadash (set apart / make holy), and of the qadash (set apart / make holy).

He shall not bawaa (come) near to the parakath (veil), nor nagash (come) near to the mazabach (altar), because he has a maawam (blemish); that he may not chalal (profane) my maqadash (sanctuaries), for I am Yahawah () who qadash (set apart / make holy) them.’”

So Mashah (Moses) dabar (word / matter) to Aharawan (Aaron), and to his banay (my son), and to all the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel).
