Numbers 20 — English–Hebrew Parallel

The banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel), even the whole idah (congregation), bawaa (bring) into the madabar (wilderness) of Tzan (Zin) in the raashawan (first) chadash (month): and the im (nation / people) stayed in Qadash (set apart / make holy); and Marayam (Miriam) mawath (death) there, and was qabar (grave / tomb / sepulcher) there.

There was no mayam (Waters) for the idah (congregation): and they qahal (assembled) themselves together against Mashah (Moses) and against Aharawan (Aaron).

The im (nation / people) rayab (strove) with Mashah (Moses), and amar (spoke), amar (spoke), “We wish that we had gawai (died) when our ach (brother/kinsman) gawai (died) panayam (face) Yahawah ()!

Why bawaa (come) you brought the qahal (assembly) of Yahawah () into this madabar (wilderness), that we should mawath (death) there, we and our animals?

Why have you ilah (go up / offer) us to come up out of Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt), to bawaa (bring) us in to this rai (evil) maqawam (place)? It is no maqawam (place) of zarai (seed), or of thaan (figs), or of gapan (vines), or of ramawan (pomegranates); neither is there any mayam (Waters) to shathah (drinks).”

Mashah (Moses) and Aharawan (Aaron) bawaa (come) from the panayam (face) of the qahal (assembly) to the pathach (door) of the ahal (tent) of Meeting, and napal (fall / be cast down) on their panay (faces): and the kabawad (glory) of Yahawah () raah (see) to them.

Yahawah () dabar (word / matter) to Mashah (Moses), amar (spoke),

“Laqach (take / seize) the matah (staff / rod / tribe), and qahal (assemble) the idah (congregation), you, and Aharawan (Aaron) your ach (brother/kinsman), and dabar (word / matter) to the salai (rock) before their iyan (eye), that it nathan (give) forth its mayam (Waters); and you shall nathan (give) forth to them mayam (Waters) out of the salai (rock); so you shall shaqah (give) the idah (congregation) and their livestock shaqah (drink).”

Mashah (Moses) laqach (take / seize) the matah (staff / rod / tribe) from panayam (face) Yahawah (), as he tzawah (commanded) him.

Mashah (Moses) and Aharawan (Aaron) qahal (gathered) the qahal (assembly) together panayam (face) the salai (rock), and he amar (said) to them, “shamai (hearken / hear) now, you marayam (rebels); shall we yatzaa (go out / come out) you mayam (Waters) out of this salai (rock) for you?”

Mashah (Moses) rawam (will lift up) up his yad (hand), and nakah (struck) the salai (rock) with his matah (staff / rod / tribe) paim (twice): and mayam (Waters) yatzaa (go out / come out) forth abundantly, and the idah (congregation) shathah (drinks), and their livestock.

Yahawah () amar (spoke) to Mashah (Moses) and Aharawan (Aaron), “Because you didn't aman (believe / have faith) in me, to qadash (set apart / make holy) me in the iyanay (eyes) of the banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel), therefore you shall not bawaa (come) this qahal (assembly) into the aratz (Earth/land) which I nathan (give) given them.”

These are the may (waters) of Marayabah (Meribah); because the banay (children) of Yashar-Al (Israel) rayab (strove) with Yahawah (), and he was qadash (set apart / make holy) in them.

Mashah (Moses) shalach (send) malaakayam (messengers) from Qadash (set apart / make holy) to the malak (king) of Adawam (Edom), amar (said): “Thus says your ach (brother/kinsman) Yashar-Al (Israel): You yadai (know) all the thalaah (travail) that matzaa (has) happened to us:

How our ab (father) yarad (went) down into Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt), and we lived in Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt) a rab (long) yawam (day); and the Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt) dealt raii (wicked / dysfunctional / evil) with us, and our ab (father):

And when we tzaiq (cried) to Yahawah (), he shamai (hearken / hear) our qawal (sound / voice), and shalach (send) an malaak (angel / messenger of Yah), and yatzaa (go out / come out) us forth out of Matzarayam (Egypt): and behold, we are in Qadash (Kadesh), a iyar (city) in the uttermost of your gabawal (border/boundary).

“Please let us ibar (pass over/through) through your aratz (Earth/land): we will not ibar (pass over/through) through shadah (field) or through karam (vineyard), neither will we shathah (drinks) of the mayam (Waters) of the baar (wells): we will yalak (go) along the malak (king) darak (highway); we will not natah (turn) aside to the right yamayan (right hand) nor to the shamaawal (left hand), until we ibar (pass over/through) passed your gabawal (border/boundary).”

Adawam (Edom) amar (said) to him, “You shall not ibar (pass over/through) through me, lest I yatzaa (go out / come out) out with the charab (sword) qaraah (against) you.”

The banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel) amar (said) to him, “We will ilah (go up / offer) up by the masalah (highway); and if we shathah (drinks) of your mayam (Waters), I and my livestock, then will I nathan (give) its price: let me only, without doing anything else, ibar (pass over/through) through on my ragal (feet / foot).”

He amar (said), “You shall not ibar (pass over/through) through.” Adawam (Edom) yatzaa (go out / come out) out qaraah (against) him with many im (nation / people), and with a chazaq (strong) yad (hand).

Thus Adawam (Edom) maan (refused) to nathan (give) Yashar-Al (Israel) passage through his gabawal (border/boundary), so Yashar-Al (Israel) natah (turned) away from him.

They traveled from Qadash (set apart / make holy): and the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel), even the whole idah (congregation), bawaa (bring) to har (mountain) Har (mountain).

Yahawah () amar (spoke) to Mashah (Moses) and Aharawan (Aaron) in har (mountain) Har (Hor), by the gabawal (border/boundary) of the aratz (Earth/land) of Adawam (Edom), amar (spoke),

“Aharawan (Aaron) shall be asap (gathered) to his im (nation / people); for he shall not bawaa (bring) into the aratz (Earth/land) which I nathan (give) given to the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel), because you marah (rebelled) against my pah (word) at the may (waters) of Marayabah (Meribah).

Laqach (take / seize) Aharawan (Aaron) and Alaizar (Eleazar) his ban (son), and ilah (go up / offer) them up to har (mountain) Har (mountain);

And pashat (strip) Aharawan (Aaron) of his bagad (garments), and labash (put) them on Alaizar (Eleazar) his ban (son): and Aharawan (Aaron) shall be asap (taken), and shall mawath (death) there.”

Mashah (Moses) ishah (make) as Yahawah () tzawah (commanded): and they ilah (go up / offer) up into har (mountain) Har (Hor) in the iyan (eye) of all the idah (congregation).

Mashah (Moses) pashat (stripped) Aharawan (Aaron) of his bagad (garments), and labash (put) them on Alaizar (Eleazar) his ban (son); and Aharawan (Aaron) mawath (death) there on the raash (head) of the har (mountain): and Mashah (Moses) and Alaizar (Eleazar) yarad (came) down from the har (mountain).

When all the idah (congregation) raah (see / saw) that Aharawan (Aaron) was gawai (dead), they bakah (wept) for Aharawan (Aaron) shalawashayam (thirty) yawam (day), even all the bayath (house) of Yashar-Al (Israel).
