1 The banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel) traveled, and chanah (encamped) in the irabawath (plains) of Mawaab (Moab) ibar (beyond) the Yaradan (Jordan) at Yarayachaw (Jericho).
2 Balaq (Balak) the ban (son) of Tzapawar (Zippor) raah (see / saw) all that Yashar-Al (Israel) ishah (make) done to the Amaray (Amaray / Amorite).
3 Mawaab (Moab) was very gawar (afraid) of the im (nation / people), because they were many: and Mawaab (Moab) was qawatz (distressed) panayam (face) of the banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel).
4 Mawaab (Moab) amar (said) to the zaqanay (elders) of Madayan (Midian), “Now this qahal (multitude) will lachak (lick) up all that is around us, as the shawar (ox) yalachakaw (licks) up the yaraq (grass) of the shadah (field).” Balaq (Balak) the ban (son) of Tzapawar (Zippor) was malak (king) of Mawaab (Moab) at that ith (time).
5 He shalach (send) malaakayam (messengers) to Balaim (Balaam) the ban (son) of Baiwar (Beor), to Pathawar (Pethor), which is by the nahar (river), to the aratz (Earth/land) of the banay (my son) of his im (nation / people), to qaraa (called) him, amar (said), “Behold, there is a im (nation / people) who yatzaa (go out / come out) out from Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt). Behold, they kasah (cover) the surface of the aratz (Earth/land), and they are staying opposite me.
6 Please yalak (come) now therefore arar (curse) me this im (nation / people); for they are too itzawam (mighty) for me: perhaps I shall yakal (prevail), that we may nakah (strike) them, and that I may garash (drive) them out of the aratz (Earth/land); for I yadai (know) that he whom you barak (blessed) is barak (blessed), and he whom you arar (curse) is arar (cursed).”
7 The zaqanay (elders) of Mawaab (Moab) and the zaqanay (elders) of Madayan (Midian) departed with the rewards of qasam (divination) in their yad (hand); and they bawaa (bring) to Balaim (Balaam), and dabar (word / matter) to him the dabaray (words) of Balaq (Balak).
8 He amar (spoke) to them, “lawan (lodge) here this layal (night), and I will shawab (turn back / repent) you dabar (word / matter) again, as Yahawah () shall dabar (word / matter) to me.” The sharay (princes) of Mawaab (Moab) stayed with Balaim (Balaam).
9 Alahayam () bawaa (come) to Balaim (Balaam), and amar (spoke), “Who are these anashayam (men) with you?”
10 Balaim (Balaam) amar (spoke) to Alahayam (), “Balaq (Balak) the ban (son) of Tzapawar (Zippor), malak (king) of Mawaab (Moab), has said to me,
11 ‘Behold, the im (nation / people) that yatzaa (go out / come out) come out of Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt), it kasah (covers) the surface of the aratz (Earth/land): now, yalak (come) qabab (curse) me them; perhaps I shall be yakal (able) to lacham (fight) against them, and shall garash (drive) them out.’”
12 Alahayam () amar (spoke) to Balaim (Balaam), “You shall not yalak (go) with them. You shall not arar (curse) the im (nation / people); for they are barak (blessed).”
13 Balaim (Balaam) qawam (rise up) up in the baqar (morning), and amar (spoke) to the sharay (princes) of Balaq (Balak), “yalak (go) to your aratz (Earth/land); for Yahawah () maan (refuses) to permit me to halak (move) with you.”
14 The sharay (princes) of Mawaab (Moab) qawam (rise up) up, and they bawaa (bring) to Balaq (Balak), and amar (said), “Balaim (Balaam) maan (refuses) to halak (move) with us.”
15 Balaq (Balak) shalach (send) yet again sharayam (princes), more, and more honorable than they.
16 They bawaa (bring) to Balaim (Balaam), and amar (said) to him, “Thus yaamaraw (says) Balaq (Balak) the ban (son) of Tzapawar (Zippor), ‘Please let nothing hinder you from halak (move) to me:
17 For I will kabad (promote) you to very kabad (great) honor, and whatever you amar (said) to me I will ishah (make). Please yalak (come) therefore, and qabab (curse) this im (nation / people) for me.’”
18 Balaim (Balaam) inah (answer / respond) the ibaday (servants) of Balaq (Balak), “If Balaq (Balak) nathan (give) give me his bayath (house) malaa (full) of kasap (silver) and zahab (gold), I can't ibar (pass over/through) beyond the pah (word) of Yahawah () my Alahayam (), to ishah (make) qatan (small / young / least) or more.
19 Now therefore, please wait also here this layal (night), that I may yadai (know) what Yahawah () will dabar (word / matter) to me more.”
20 Alahayam () bawaa (come) to Balaim (Balaam) at layal (night), and amar (spoke) to him, “If the anashayam (men) bawaa (come) come to qaraa (called) you, qawam (rise up) up, yalak (go) with them; but only the dabar (word / matter) which I dabar (word / matter) to you, that you shall ishah (make).”
21 Balaim (Balaam) qawam (rise up) up in the baqar (morning), and chabash (saddled) his donkey, and yalak (went) with the sharay (princes) of Mawaab (Moab).
22 Alahayam () ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) was charah (hot with anger) because he halak (move); and the malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) of Yahawah () placed himself in the darak (way) for an shatan (adversary) against him. Now he was rakab (riding) on his donkey, and his shanayam (two) nair (servants) were with him.
23 The donkey raah (see) the malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) of Yahawah () natzab (standing) in the darak (way), with his charab (sword) shalap (drawn) in his yad (hand); and the donkey natah (turned) aside out of the darak (way), and yalak (went) into the shadah (field): and Balaim (Balaam) nakah (struck) the donkey, to natah (turn) her into the darak (way).
24 Then the malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) of Yahawah () imad (stood) in a narrow mashaiwal (path) between the karamayam (vineyards), a gadar (wall) being on this side, and a gadar (wall) on that side.
25 The donkey raah (see) the malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) of Yahawah (), and she lachatz (thrust) herself to the qayar (wall), and lachatz (crushed) Balaim (Balaam's) ragal (feet / foot) against the qayar (wall): and he nakah (struck) her again.
26 The malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) of Yahawah () ibar (pass over/through) yasap (further), and imad (stood) in a tzar (oppressor / distressor) maqawam (place), where there was no darak (way) to natah (turn) either to the right yamayan (right hand) or to the shamaawal (left hand).
27 The donkey raah (see) the malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) of Yahawah (), and she rabatz (lay) down under Balaim (Balaam): and Balaim (Balaam's) ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) was charah (hot with anger), and he nakah (struck) the donkey with his maqal (staff).
28 Yahawah () pathach (opened) the pah (mouth) of the donkey, and she amar (spoke) to Balaim (Balaam), “What ishah (make) I done to you, that you have nakah (struck) me these shalawash (three) ragalayam (times)?”
29 Balaim (Balaam) amar (said) to the donkey, “Because you have ilal (mocked) me, I wish there were a charab (sword) in my yad (hand), for now I would have harag (kill) you.”
30 The donkey amar (said) to Balaim (Balaam), “Am I not your donkey, on which you have rakab (ridden) all your yawam (day) long to this day? Was I sakan (ever) in the habit of ishah (make) so to you?” He amar (said), “No.”
31 Then Yahawah () galah (opened) the iyanay (eyes) of Balaim (Balaam), and he raah (see) the malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) of Yahawah () natzab (standing) in the darak (way), with his charab (sword) shalap (drawn) in his yad (hand); and he qadad (bowed) his head, and shachah (fell) on his ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting).
32 The malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) of Yahawah () amar (spoke) to him, “Why have you nakah (struck) your donkey these shalawash (three) ragalayam (times)? Behold, I yatzaa (go out / come out) come forth as an shatan (adversary), because your darak (way) is yarat (perverse) before me:
33 And the donkey raah (see / saw) me, and natah (turned) aside panayam (face) me these shalawash (three) ragalayam (times). Awalay (perhaps) she had natah (turned) aside from me, harag (kill) now I would have killed you, and chayah (saved) her alive.”
34 Balaim (Balaam) amar (spoke) to the malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) of Yahawah (), “I have chataa (sinned); for I didn't yadai (know) that you natzab (stood) in the darak (way) qaraah (against) me. Now therefore, if it raii (wicked / dysfunctional / evil) you, I will shawab (turn back / repent) back again.”
35 The malaak (angel / messenger of Yah) of Yahawah () amar (spoke) to Balaim (Balaam), “yalak (go) with the anashayam (men); but only the dabar (word / matter) that I shall dabar (word / matter) to you, that you shall dabar (word / matter).” So Balaim (Balaam) yalak (went) with the sharay (princes) of Balaq (Balak).
36 When Balaq (Balak) shamai (hearken / hear) that Balaim (Balaam) bawaa (bring) come, he yatzaa (go out / come out) out to qaraah (meet) him to the iyar (city) of Mawaab (Moab), which is on the gabawal (border/boundary) of the Aranawan (Arnon), which is in the utmost part of the gabawal (border/boundary).
37 Balaq (Balak) amar (said) to Balaim (Balaam), “Didn't I shalach (send) shalach (send) to you to qaraa (called) you? Why didn't you halak (move) to me? Am I not yakal (able) indeed to kabad (promote) you to honor?”
38 Balaim (Balaam) amar (spoke) to Balaq (Balak), “Behold, I bawaa (come) come to you: have I now any yakal (power) at yakal (all) to dabar (word / matter) anything? The dabar (word / matter) that Alahayam () shawam (place / establish / appoint) in my pah (mouth), that shall I dabar (word / matter).”
39 Balaim (Balaam) yalak (went) with Balaq (Balak), and they bawaa (bring) to Kiriath Huzoth.
40 Balaq (Balak) zabach (sacrificed) cattle and tzaan (sheep), and shalach (send) to Balaim (Balaam), and to the sharayam (princes) who were with him.
41 It happened in the baqar (morning), that Balaq (Balak) laqach (take / seize) Balaim (Balaam), and ilah (go up / offer) him up into the high places of Bamawath (Baal); and he raah (see / saw) from there the utmost part of the im (nation / people).
