Genesis 30 — English–Hebrew Parallel

When Rachal (Rachel) raah (see / saw) that she yalad (birth / begot) Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) no children, Rachal (Rachel) qanaa (jealous) her achawath (sister). She amar (said) to Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch), “yahab (give) me banayam (children), or ayan (NO ONE) I will mawath (death).”

Yaiqab (Jacob's) ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) was charah (hot with anger) against Rachal (Rachel), and he amar (spoke), “Am I in Alahayam () place, who has withheld from you the paray (fruit) of the batan (womb)?”

She amar (said), “Behold, my amah (maid) Balahah (Bilhah). Bawaa (bring) in to her, that she may yalad (birth / begot) on my barak (blessed), and I also may banah (build) children by her.”

She nathan (give) him Balahah (Bilhah) her handmaid as ayashah (woman / wife), and Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) bawaa (bring) in to her.

Balahah (Bilhah) harah (conceived), and yalad (birth / begot) Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) a ban (son).

Rachal (Rachel) amar (spoke), “Alahayam () has dayan (judge) me, and has also shamai (hearken / hear) my qawal (sound / voice), and nathan (give) given me a ban (son).” Therefore qaraa (called) she his sham (name) Dan (Dan).

Balahah (Bilhah), Rachal (Rachel's) handmaid, harah (conceived) again, and yalad (birth / begot) Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) a shanay (second) ban (son).

Rachal (Rachel) amar (said), “With alahayam (God) napathawalay (wrestlings) have I pathal (wrestled) with my achawath (sister), and yakal (have) prevailed.” She sham (name) him Napathalay (Naphtali).

When Laah (Leah) raah (see / saw) that she had finished yalad (birth / begot), she laqach (take / seize) Zalapah (Zilpah), her handmaid, and nathan (give) her to Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) as a ayashah (woman / wife).

Zalapah (Zilpah), Laah (Leah's) handmaid, yalad (birth / begot) Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) a ban (son).

Laah (Leah) amar (said), “How fortunate!” She sham (name) him Gad (Gad).

Zalapah (Zilpah), Laah (Leah's) handmaid, yalad (birth / begot) Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) a shanay (second) ban (son).

Laah (Leah) amar (said), “ashar (who/that) am I, for the banawath (daughters) will ashar (who/that) me happy.” She sham (name) him Ashar (who/that).

Raawaban (Reuben) yalak (went) in the yamay (days) of chatah (wheat) qatzayar (harvest), and matzaa (found) dawadaayam (mandrakes) in the shadah (field), and bawaa (bring) them to his am (mother), Laah (Leah). Then Rachal (Rachel) amar (said) to Laah (Leah), “Please nathan (give) me some of your ban (son) dawadaayam (mandrakes).”

She amar (said) to her, “Is it a mait (small) matter that you have laqach (take / seize) away my ayash (man / husband)? Would you laqach (take / seize) away my ban (son) dawadaay (mandrakes), also?” Rachal (Rachel) amar (said), “Therefore he will shakab (lie) with you tonight for your ban (son) dawadaay (mandrakes).”

Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) bawaa (bring) from the shadah (field) in the irab (evening), and Laah (Leah) yatzaa (go out / come out) out to qaraah (meet) him, and amar (said), “You must bawaa (bring) in to me; for I have shakar (surely) shakar (hired) you with my ban (son) dawadaay (mandrakes).” He shakab (lay) with her that layal (night).

Alahayam () listened to Laah (Leah), and she harah (conceived), and yalad (birth / begot) Yaiqab (Jacob) a chamayashay (fifth) ban (son).

Laah (Leah) said, “God has given me my hire, because I gave my handmaid to my husband.” She named him Yashashakar (Issachar).

Laah (Leah) harah (conceived) again, and yalad (birth / begot) a shashay (sixth) ban (son) to Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch).

Laah (Leah) amar (spoke), “Alahayam () has endowed me with a tawab (good / proper function) zabad (dowry). Paim (now) my ayash (man / husband) will live with me, because I have yalad (birth / begot) him shash (six) banayam (sons).” She sham (name) him Zabawalawan (Zebulun).

Afterwards, she yalad (birth / begot) a banath (daughter), and sham (name) her Dayanah (Dinah).

Alahayam () zakar (remember) Rachal (Rachel), and Alahayam () shamai (hearken / hear) to her, and pathach (opened) her racham (womb).

She harah (conceived), yalad (birth / begot) a ban (son), and amar (spoke), “Alahayam () has asap (taken) away my charapah (reproach).”

She sham (name) him Yawasap (Joseph), amar (spoke), “May Yahawah () yasap (add) achar (other) ban (son) to me.”

It happened, when Rachal (Rachel) had yalad (birth / begot) Yawasap (Joseph), that Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) amar (said) to Laban (Laban), “shalach (send) me away, that I may yalak (go) to my own maqawam (place), and to my aratz (Earth/land).

Nathan (give) me my wives and my yalad (birth / begot) for whom I have ibad (servant) you, and yalak (let) me go; for you yadai (know) my ibadah (service) with which I have ibad (servant) you.”

Laban (Laban) amar (spoke) to him, “If now I matzaa (have) found favor in your iyan (eye), stay here, for I have nachash (divined) that Yahawah () has barak (blessed) me for your sake.”

He amar (said), “naqab (appoint) me your shakar (wages), and I will nathan (give) it.”

He amar (said) to him, “You yadai (know) ashar (who/that) I have ibad (servant) you, and ashar (who/that) your livestock have fared with me.

For it was mait (little) which you had panayam (face) I paratz (came), and it has increased to a rab (multitude). Yahawah () has barak (blessed) you wherever I turned. Now when will I ishah (make) for my own bayath (house) also?”

He amar (said), “What shall I nathan (give) you?” Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) amar (said), “You shall not nathan (give) me anything. If you will ishah (make) this thing for me, I will again raih (feed) your tzaan (flock) and shamar (keep/guard) it.

I will ibar (pass over/through) through all your tzaan (flock) today, sawar (removing) from there every naqad (speckled) and talaa (spotted) shah (one), and every black shah (one) among the sheep, and the talaa (spotted) and naqad (speckled) among the izayam (goats). This will be my shakar (hire).

So my tzadaqah (righteousness) will inah (answer / respond) for me hereafter, when you bawaa (bring) concerning my shakar (hire) that is panayam (face) you. Kal (every) one that is not naqad (speckled) and talaa (spotted) among the izayam (goats), and black among the sheep, that might be with me, will be counted ganab (stolen).”

Laban (Laban) amar (said), “Behold, let it be according to your dabar (word / matter).”

That yawam (day), he sawar (removed) the male thayashayam (goats) that were streaked and talaa (spotted), and all the female izayam (goats) that were naqad (speckled) and talaa (spotted), every one that had laban (white) in it, and all the black kashabayam (ones) among the sheep, and nathan (give) them into the yad (hand) of his ban (son).

He shawam (place / establish / appoint) shalawash (three) yamayam (days)’ darak (journey) between himself and Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch), and Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) raih (fed) the yathar (rest) of Laban (Laban's) tzaan (flocks).

Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) laqach (take / seize) to himself maqalawath (rods) of fresh labanah (poplar), almond, plane iramawan (tree), peeled laban (white) streaks in them, and made the laban (white) appear which was in the maqalawath (rods).

He yatzag (set) the maqalawath (rods) which he had peeled opposite the tzaan (flocks) in the rahatayam (gutters) in the watering-troughs where the tzaan (flocks) bawaa (bring) to shathah (drinks). They yacham (conceived) when they bawaa (bring) to shathah (drinks).

The tzaan (flocks) yacham (conceived) before the maqalawath (rods), and the tzaan (flocks) produced streaked, naqad (speckled), and talaa (spotted).

Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) parad (separated) the kashabayam (lambs), and nathan (give) the panay (face of) of the tzaan (flocks) al (toward) the streaked and all the black in the tzaan (flock) of Laban (Laban): and he shayath (put / appoint / make) his own idarayam (droves) apart, and didn't shayath (put / appoint / make) them into Laban (Laban's) tzaan (flock).

It happened, whenever the qashar (stronger) of the tzaan (flock) yacham (conceived), that Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) shawam (place / establish / appoint) the maqalawath (rods) before the iyanay (eyes) of the tzaan (flock) in the rahatayam (gutters), that they might yacham (conceive) among the maqalawath (rods);

But when the tzaan (flock) were feeble, he didn't shawam (place / establish / appoint) them in. So the itap (feebler) were Laban (Laban's), and the qashar (stronger) Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch).

The ayash (man / husband) paratz (increased) maad (exceedingly), and rab (had) large tzaan (flocks), female shapachawath (servants) and male ibadayam (servants), and gamalayam (camels) and donkeys.
