1 Now Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) raah (see / saw) that there yash (was) grain in Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt), and Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) amar (said) to his ban (son), “Why do you raah (see / saw) at one another?”
2 He amar (said), “Behold, I have shamai (hearken / hear) that there is grain in Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt). Yarad (go) down there, and shabar (buy) for us from there, so that we may chayah (live), and not mawath (death).”
3 Yawasap (Joseph's) ishar (ten) achay (brothers) yarad (went) down to shabar (buy) grain from Matzarayam (Matzarayam / Egypt).
4 But Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) didn't shalach (send) Banayamayan (Benjamin), Yawasap (Joseph's) ach (brother/kinsman), with his ach (brother/kinsman); for he amar (said), “Lest perhaps harm qaraa (called) to him.”
5 The banay (my son) of Yashar-Al (Israel) bawaa (bring) to shabar (buy) thawak (midst) those who bawaa (bring), for the raib (famine) was in the aratz (Earth/land) of Kanain (Canaan).
6 Yawasap (Joseph) was the shalayat (governor) over the aratz (Earth/land). It was he who shabar (sold) to all the im (nation / people) of the aratz (Earth/land). Yawasap (Joseph's) achay (brothers) bawaa (bring), and shachah (bowed) themselves down to him with their apayam (faces) to the aratz (Earth/land)
7 Yawasap (Joseph) raah (see / saw) his ach (brother/kinsman), and he recognized them, but acted like a stranger to them, and dabar (word / matter) qashah (rough / hard) with them. He amar (said) to them, “ayan (NO ONE) did you bawaa (bring) from?” They amar (said), “From the aratz (Earth/land) of Kanain (Canaan) to shabar (buy) akal (food).”
8 Yawasap (Joseph) recognized his ach (brother/kinsman), but they didn't recognize him.
9 Yawasap (Joseph) zakar (remember) the chalamawath (dreams) which he chalam (dream) about them, and amar (said) to them, “You are maragalayam (spies)! You bawaa (bring) come to raah (see / saw) the irawah (nakedness) of the aratz (Earth/land).”
10 They amar (spoke) to him, “No, my Adawan (), but your ibad (servant) bawaa (come) come to shabar (buy) akal (food).
11 We are all achad (one) ayash (man / husband) banay (my son); we are honest men. Your ibad (servant) are not maragalayam (spies).”
12 He amar (said) to them, “No, but you bawaa (bring) come to raah (see / saw) the irawah (nakedness) of the aratz (Earth/land)!”
13 They amar (said), “We, your ibad (servant), are shanayam (two) achayam (brothers), the banay (my son) of achad (one) ayash (man / husband) in the aratz (Earth/land) of Kanain (Canaan); and behold, the youngest is this yawam (day) with our ab (father), and achad (one) is no more.”
14 Yawasap (Joseph) amar (said) to them, “It is like I dabar (word / matter) you, amar (said), ‘You are maragalayam (spies)!’
15 By this you shall be tested. By the chay (life) of Paraih (Pharaoh), you shall not yatzaa (go out / come out) out from here, unless your youngest ach (brother/kinsman) bawaa (bring) here.
16 Shalach (send) achad (one) of you, and let him laqach (take / seize) your ach (brother/kinsman), and you shall be asar (bound), that your dabar (word / matter) may be tested, whether there is amath (truth) in you, or laa (NOT) by the chay (life) of Paraih (Pharaoh) surely you are maragalayam (spies).”
17 He asap (put) them all together into custody for shalawash (three) yamayam (days).
18 Yawasap (Joseph) amar (spoke) to them the shalayashay (third) yawam (day), “ishah (make) this, and chayah (live), for I yaraa (fear / be afraid) Alahayam ().
19 If you are honest achad (one), then let one of your ach (brother/kinsman) be asar (bound) in your mashamar (prison); but you yalak (go), bawaa (bring) grain for the raibawan (famine) of your bayath (house).
20 Bawaa (bring) your youngest ach (brother/kinsman) to me; so will your dabar (word / matter) be aman (believe / have faith), and you won't mawath (death).” They ishah (make) so.
21 They amar (said) ayash (man / husband) to ach (brother/kinsman), “We are certainly asham (guilty) concerning our ach (brother/kinsman), in that we raah (see / saw) the tzarah (distress) of his napash (soul), when he begged us, and we wouldn't shamai (hearken / hear). Therefore this tzarah (distress) bawaa (bring) come upon us.”
22 Raawaban (Reuben) inah (answer / respond) them, amar (said), “Didn't I amar (said) you, saying, ‘Don't chataa (sin) against the yalad (birth / begot),’ and you wouldn't shamai (hearken / hear)? Therefore also, behold, his dam (blood) is darash (required).”
23 They didn't yadai (know) that Yawasap (Joseph) shamai (hearken / hear) them; for there was an lawatz (interpreter) between them.
24 He sabab (turned) himself away from them, and bakah (wept). Then he shawab (turn) to them, and dabar (word / matter) to them, and laqach (take / seize) Shamaiwan (Simeon) from among them, and asar (bound) him before their iyan (eye).
25 Then Yawasap (Joseph) gave a tzawah (command) to malaa (fill) their kalay (bags) with grain, and to shawab (turn) each ayash (man / husband) kasap (money) into his shaq (sack), and to nathan (give) them food for the darak (way). So it was ishah (make) to them.
26 They loaded their donkeys with their grain, and departed from there.
27 As achad (one) of them pathach (opened) his shaq (sack) to nathan (give) his donkey food in the malawan (lodging) place, he raah (see / saw) his kasap (money). Behold, it was in the pah (mouth) of his amathachath (sack).
28 He amar (spoke) to his ach (brother/kinsman), “My kasap (money) is shawab (turn back / repent)! Hanah (Behold), it is in my amathachath (sack)!” Their lab (heart) yatzaa (go out / come out) them, and they turned charad (trembling) ayash (man / husband) to ach (brother/kinsman), amar (spoke), “What is this that Alahayam () ishah (make) done to us?”
29 They bawaa (bring) to Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch) their ab (father), to the aratz (Earth/land) of Kanain (Canaan), and nagad (told) him all that had qarah (happened) to them, amar (said),
30 “The ayash (man / husband), the Adawan () of the aratz (Earth/land), dabar (word / matter) qashah (rough / hard) with us, and nathan (give) us for maragalayam (spies) of the aratz (Earth/land).
31 We amar (said) to him, ‘We are honest men. We are no maragalayam (spies).
32 We are ishar (-teen) achayam (brothers), banay (my son) of our ab (father); achad (one) is no more, and the youngest is this yawam (day) with our ab (father) in the aratz (Earth/land) of Kanain (Canaan).’
33 The ayash (man / husband), the Adawan () of the aratz (Earth/land), amar (spoke) to us, ‘By this I yadai (will) know that you are honest men: yanach (leave) achad (one) of your ach (brother/kinsman) with me, and laqach (take / seize) grain for the raibawan (famine) of your bayath (house), and go your yalak (way).
34 Bawaa (bring) your youngest ach (brother/kinsman) to me. Then I yadai (will) know that you are not maragalayam (spies), but that you are honest men. So I will nathan (give) your ach (brother/kinsman) to you, and you shall sachar (trade) in the aratz (Earth/land).’”
35 It happened as they rawaq (emptied) their shaq (sacks), that behold, each ayash (man / husband) tzarawar (bundle) of kasap (money) was in his shaq (sack). When they and their ab (father) raah (see / saw) their tzararawath (bundles) of kasap (money), they were yaraa (fear / be afraid).
36 Yaiqab (Jacob - Patriarch), their ab (father), amar (said) to them, “You have shakal (bereaved) me of my sons Yawasap (Joseph) is no more, Shamaiwan (Simeon) is no more, and you want to laqach (take / seize) Banayamayan (Benjamin) away. All these things are against me.”
37 Raawaban (Reuben) amar (said) to his ab (father), amar (said), “mawath (death) my shanayam (two) ban (son), if I don't bawaa (bring) him to you. Entrust him to my care, and I will shawab (turn) him to you again.”
38 He amar (said), “My ban (son) shall not yarad (go) down with you; for his ach (brother/kinsman) is mawath (death), and he only is shaar (left). If harm qaraa (called) to him along the darak (way) in which you yalak (go), then you will yarad (bring) down my shayabah (old age / white hair - due to age) hairs with yagawan (sorrow) to shaawal (Sheol / afterlife).”
