2 Samuel 12 — English–Hebrew Parallel

1 Yahawah () shalach (send) Nathan (Nathan) to Dawad (David). He bawaa (come) to him, and amar (spoke) to him, “There were shanayam (two) anashayam (men) in achad (one) iyar (city); the achad (one) ishayar (rich), and the other rawash (poor).

2 The ishayar (rich) maad (man) had very many tzaan (flocks) and baqar (morning),

3 But the rawash (poor) achad (one) had nothing, except one qatan (small / young / least) ewe kabashah (lamb), which he had bought and raised. It grew up yachad (together) with him, and with his ban (son). It akal (eat) of his own food, shathah (drinks) of his own kawas (cup), and shakab (lay) in his chayaq (bosom), and was to him like a banath (daughter).

4 A traveler bawaa (bring) to the ishayar (rich) ayash (man / husband), and he chamal (spared) to laqach (take / seize) of his own tzaan (flock) and of his own baqar (morning), to ishah (make) for the arach (wayfaring) man who bawaa (bring) come to him, but laqach (take / seize) the rawash (poor) ayash (man / husband) kabashah (lamb), and ishah (make) it for the ayash (man / husband) who bawaa (bring) come to him.”

5 Dawad (David's) ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) was maad (greatly) charah (hot with anger) against the ayash (man / husband), and he amar (spoke) to Nathan (Nathan), “As Yahawah () chay (life), the ayash (man / husband) who ishah (make) done this is ban (son) to mawath (death)!

6 He shall shalam (restore) the kabashah (lamb) arabaithayam (fourfold), iqab (award / effect after the cause) he ishah (make) this thing, and iqab (award / effect after the cause) he chamal (had) no pity!”

7 Nathan (Nathan) amar (spoke) to Dawad (David), “You are the ayash (man / husband). This is what Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel), amar (spoke): ‘I mashach (anointed) you malak (king) over Yashar-Al (Israel), and I natzal (delivered) you out of the yad (hand) of Shaawal (Saul).

8 I nathan (give) you your adawan (master / lord) bayath (house), and your adawan (master / lord) wives into your chayaq (bosom), and nathan (give) you the bayath (house) of Yashar-Al (Israel) and of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah); and if that would have been too mait (little), I would have yasap (added) to you many more such things.

9 Why have you bazah (despised) the dabar (word / matter) of Yahawah (), to ishah (make) that which is rai (evil) in his iyan (eye)? You have nakah (struck) Awarayah (Uriah) the Chathay (Hittite) with the charab (sword), and have laqach (take / seize) his ayashah (woman / wife) to be your ayashah (woman / wife), and have harag (kill) him with the charab (sword) of the banay (children) of Imawan (Ammon).

10 Now therefore the charab (sword) will never sawar (depart) from your bayath (house), iqab (award / effect after the cause) you have bazah (despised) me, and have laqach (take / seize) the ayashah (woman / wife) of Awarayah (Uriah the Hittite) the Chathay (Hittite) to be your ayashah (woman / wife).’

11 “This is what Yahawah () amar (spoke): ‘Behold, I will qawam (rise up) up rai (evil) against you out of your own bayath (house); and I will laqach (take / seize) your wives before your iyanay (eyes), and nathan (give) them to your neighbor, and he will shakab (lie) with your wives in the iyan (eye) of this shamash (sun).

12 For you ishah (make) it secretly, but I will ishah (make) this thing before all Yashar-Al (Israel), and before the shamash (sun).’”

13 Dawad (David) amar (spoke) to Nathan (Nathan), “I have chataa (sinned) against Yahawah ().” Nathan (Nathan) amar (spoke) to Dawad (David), “Yahawah () also ibar (pass over/through) put away your chataah (sin). You will not mawath (death).

14 However, dabar (word / matter) by this deed you have given naatz (great) occasion to Yahawah () ayabay (enemies) to naatz (blaspheme), the ban (son) also who is yalawad (born) to you shall mawath (death) mawath (death).”

15 Nathan (Nathan) departed to his bayath (house). Yahawah () nagap (struck) the yalad (birth / begot) that Awarayah (Uriah's) ayashah (woman / wife) yalad (birth / begot) to Dawad (David), and it was very anash (sick).

16 Dawad (David) therefore baqash (begged) Alahayam () for the nair (child); and Dawad (David) tzawam (fasted), and bawaa (come) in, and shakab (lay) all lawan (night) on the aratz (Earth/land).

17 The zaqanay (elders) of his bayath (house) qawam (rise up) beside him, to qawam (rise up) him up from the aratz (Earth/land): but he would not, neither did he barah (eat) lacham (bread) with them.

18 It happened on the shabayaiy (seventh) yawam (day), that the yalad (birth / begot) mawath (death). The ibaday (servant of) of Dawad (David) yaraa (fear / be afraid) to nagad (tell) him that the yalad (birth / begot) was mawath (death); for they amar (said), “Behold, while the yalad (birth / begot) was yet chay (life), we amar (said) to him, and he didn't shamai (hearken / hear) to our qawal (sound / voice). How will he then rai (harm) himself, if we amar (said) him that the yalad (birth / begot) is mawath (death)?”

19 But when Dawad (David) raah (see / saw) that his ibad (servant) were lachash (whispering) together, Dawad (David) bayan (between) that the yalad (birth / begot) was mawath (death); and Dawad (David) amar (said) to his ibad (servant), “Is the yalad (birth / begot) mawath (death)?” They amar (said), “He is mawath (death).”

20 Then Dawad (David) qawam (rise up) from the aratz (Earth/land), and rachatz (washed), and sawak (anointed) himself, and chalap (changed) his shamalah (clothing); and he bawaa (come) into the bayath (house) of Yahawah (), and shachah (worshiped): then he bawaa (come) to his own bayath (house); and when he shaal (required), they shawam (place / establish / appoint) lacham (bread) before him, and he akal (eat).

21 Then his ibad (servant) amar (said) to him, “dabar (word / matter) is this that you ishah (make) done? You tzawam (fasted) and bakah (wept) for the yalad (birth / begot) while he was chay (life); but when the yalad (birth / begot) was mawath (death), you qawam (rise up) up and akal (eat) lacham (bread).”

22 He amar (spoke), “While the yalad (birth / begot) was yet chay (life), I tzawam (fasted) and bakah (wept); for I amar (spoke), ‘Who yadai (knows) whether Yahawah () will not be gracious to me, that the yalad (birth / begot) may chay (life)?’

23 But now he is mawath (death), why should I tzawam (fast)? Yakal (can) I shawab (turn) him back again? I shall halak (move) to him, but he will not shawab (turn) to me.”

24 Dawad (David) nacham (turn away / repent) Bathashabai (Bathsheba) his ayashah (woman / wife), and bawaa (come) in to her, and shakab (lay) with her. She yalad (birth / begot) a ban (son), and he qaraa (called) his sham (name) Shalamah (Solomon). Yahawah () ahab (love) him;

25 And he shalach (send) by the yad (hand) of Nathan (Nathan) the nabayaa (prophet/prophecy); and he sham (name) him Yadayadayah (Jedidiah), for Yahawah () sake.

26 Now Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) lacham (fought) against Rabah (Rabbah) of the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon), and lakad (took) the malawakah (royal) iyar (city).

27 Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) shalach (send) malaakayam (messengers) to Dawad (David), and amar (said), “I have lacham (fought) against Rabah (Rabbah). Yes, I have lakad (taken) the iyar (city) of mayam (Waters).

28 Now therefore asap (gather) the yathar (rest) of the im (nation / people) asap (together), and chanah (encamp) against the iyar (city), and lakad (take) it; lest I lakad (take) the iyar (city), and it be qaraa (called) after my sham (name).”

29 Dawad (David) asap (gathered) all the im (nation / people) asap (together), and yalak (went) to Rabah (Rabbah), and lacham (fought) against it, and lakad (took) it.

30 He laqach (take / seize) the itarah (crown) of their malak (king) from off his raash (head); and its mashaqal (weight) was a kakar (talent) of zahab (gold), and in it were yaqar (precious) aban (stone); and it was set on Dawad (David's) raash (head). He yatzaa (go out / come out) out the shalal (spoil) of the iyar (city), maad (exceeding) much.

31 He yatzaa (go out / come out) out the im (nation / people) who were therein, and shawam (place / establish / appoint) them under magarah (saws), and under barazal (iron) picks, and under magazarath (axes) of barazal (iron), and ibar (pass over/through) them pass through the brick kiln: and he ishah (make) so to all the iray (cities) of the banay (my son) of Imawan (Ammon). Dawad (David) and all the im (nation / people) shawab (turn) to Yarawashalam (Yarawashalam / Jerusalem).
