Kings 1 — English–Hebrew Parallel

Now malak (king) Dawad (David) was zaqan (old) and bawaa (bring) in yamayam (years); and they kasah (covered) him with clothes, but he couldn't keep yacham (warm).

Therefore his ibad (servant) amar (spoke) to him, “Let there be baqash (sought) for my Adawan () the malak (king) a nairah (young) bathawalah (virgin). Let her imad (stand) panayam (face) the malak (king), and cherish him; and let her shakab (lie) in your chayaq (bosom), that my Adawan () the malak (king) may keep chamam (warm).”

So they baqash (sought) for a yapah (beautiful) nairah (young) lady throughout all the gabawal (border/boundary) of Yashar-Al (Israel), and matzaa (found) Abayashag (Abishag) the Shunammite, and bawaa (bring) her to the malak (king).

The nairah (young) lady was very yapah (beautiful); and she cherished the malak (king), and sharath (ministered) to him; but the malak (king) didn't yadai (know) her intimately.

Then Adanayah (Adanayah / Adonijah) the ban (son) of Chagayath (Haggith) mathanashaa (exalted) himself, amar (said), “I will be malak (king).” Then he ishah (make) him rakab (chariots) and horsemen, and chamashayam (fifty) ayash (man / husband) to rawatz (run) panayam (face) him.

His ab (father) had not itzab (displeased) him at any yawam (day) in amar (said), “Why ishah (make) you done so?” And he was also a very handsome man; and he was yalad (birth / begot) achar (other) Abayashalawam (Absalom).

He dabar (word / matter) with Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) the ban (son) of Tzarawayah (Zeruiah), and with Abayathar (Abiathar) the kahan (priest): and they achar (other) Adanayah (Adanayah / Adonijah) izar (helped) him.

But Tzadawaq (Zadok) the kahan (priest), and Banayah (Benaiah) the ban (son) of Yahawayadai (Jehoiada), and Nathan (give) the nabayaa (prophet/prophecy), and Shamaiy (Shimei), and Raiy (Rei), and the gabawar (mighty) men who belonged to Dawad (David), were not with Adanayah (Adanayah / Adonijah).

Adanayah (Adanayah / Adonijah) zabach (killed) tzaan (sheep) and cattle and fatlings by the aban (stone) of Zachalath (Zoheleth), which is beside Iyanaragal (En Rogel); and he qaraa (called) all his ach (brother/kinsman), the malak (king) banay (my son), and all the banay (my son) of Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah), the malak (king) ibaday (servant of):

But Nathan (give) the nabayaa (prophet/prophecy), and Banayah (Benaiah), and the gabawar (mighty) men, and Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch) his ach (brother/kinsman), he didn't qaraa (called).

Then Nathan (Nathan) amar (spoke) to Bathashabai (Bathsheba) the am (mother) of Shalamah (Solomon), amar (spoke), “Haven't you shamai (hearken / hear) that Adanayah (Adonijah) the ban (son) of Chagayath (Haggith) malak (king), and Dawad (David) our Adawan () doesn't yadai (know) it?

Now therefore yalak (come), please let me give you yaitz (counsel), that you may malat (save) your own napash (soul), and the napash (soul) of your ban (son) Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch).

Yalak (go) in to malak (king) Dawad (David), and amar (spoke) him, ‘Didn't you, my Adawan (), malak (king), shabai (swear / take oath) to your handmaid, amar (spoke), “kay (surely) Shalamah (Solomon) your ban (son) shall malak (king) achar (other) me, and he shall yashab (inhabit/dwell) on my kasaa (throne)?” Why then does Adanayah (Adonijah) malak (king)?’

Behold, while you yet dabar (word / matter) there with the malak (king), I also will bawaa (bring) in achar (other) you, and malaa (confirm) your dabar (word / matter).”

Bathashabai (Bathsheba) bawaa (bring) in to the malak (king) into the room. The malak (king) was very zaqan (old); and Abayashag (Abishag) the Shunammite was sharath (ministering) to the malak (king).

Bathashabai (Bathsheba) qadad (bowed), and showed respect to the malak (king). The malak (king) amar (said), “What would you like?”

She amar (spoke) to him, “My Adawan (), you shabai (swear / take oath) by Yahawah () your Alahayam () to your handmaid, ‘Assuredly Shalamah (Solomon) your ban (son) shall malak (king) achar (other) me, and he shall yashab (inhabit/dwell) on my kasaa (throne).’

Now, behold, Adanayah (Adonijah) malak (king); and you, my Adawan () the malak (king), don't yadai (know) it.

He has zabach (slain) cattle and fatlings and tzaan (sheep) in rab (abundance), and has qaraa (called) all the banay (my son) of the malak (king), and Abayathar (Abiathar) the kahan (priest), and Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) the shar (prince / ruler) of the tzabaa (troop); but he hasn't qaraa (called) Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch) your ibad (servant).

You, my Adawan () the malak (king), the iyanay (eyes) of all Yashar-Al (Israel) are on you, that you should nagad (tell) them who shall yashab (inhabit/dwell) on the kasaa (throne) of my Adawan () the malak (king) achar (other) him.

Otherwise it will happen, when my Adawan () the malak (king) shall sleep with his ab (father), that I and my ban (son) Shalamah (Solomon) shall be counted chataayam (offenders).”

Behold, while she yet dabar (word / matter) with the malak (king), Nathan (give) the nabayaa (prophet/prophecy) bawaa (bring) in.

They nagad (told) the malak (king), amar (said), “Behold, Nathan (give) the nabayaa (prophet/prophecy)!” When he bawaa (bring) come in panayam (face) the malak (king), he shachah (bowed) himself before the malak (king) with his ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) to the aratz (Earth/land).

Nathan (Nathan) amar (spoke), “My Adawan (), malak (king), have you amar (spoke), ‘Adanayah (Adonijah) shall malak (king) achar (other) me, and he shall yashab (inhabit/dwell) on my kasaa (throne)?’

For he is yarad (gone) down this yawam (day), and has zabach (slain) cattle and fatlings and tzaan (sheep) in rab (abundance), and has qaraa (called) all the malak (king) banay (my son), and the sharay (captains) of the tzabaa (troop), and Abayathar (Abiathar) the kahan (priest). Behold, they are akal (eat) and shathah (drinks) panayam (face) him, and amar (said), ‘Long chayah (live) malak (king) Adanayah (Adanayah / Adonijah)!’

But he hasn't qaraa (called) me, even me your ibad (servant), and Tzadawaq (Zadok) the kahan (priest), and Banayah (Benaiah) the ban (son) of Yahawayadai (Jehoiada), and your ibad (servant) Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch).

Is this thing hayah (came to pass) by my Adawan () the malak (king), and you haven't shown to your ibad (servant) who should yashab (inhabit/dwell) on the kasaa (throne) of my Adawan () the malak (king) achar (other) him?”

Then malak (king) Dawad (David) inah (answer / respond), “qaraa (called) to me.” Bathashabai (Bathsheba). She bawaa (bring) into the malak (king) panayam (face), and imad (stood) panayam (face) the malak (king).

The malak (king) shabai (swear / take oath), and amar (spoke), “As Yahawah () chay (life), who has padah (redeemed) my napash (soul) out of all tzarah (adversity),

Most certainly as I shabai (swear / take oath) to you by Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel), amar (spoke), ‘Assuredly Shalamah (Solomon) your ban (son) shall malak (king) achar (other) me, and he shall yashab (inhabit/dwell) on my kasaa (throne) in my place;’ most ishah (make) so will I do this yawam (day).”

Then Bathashabai (Bathsheba) qadad (bowed) with her ap (nostril / picture: bull snorting) to the aratz (Earth/land), and showed respect to the malak (king), and amar (spoke), “Let my Adawan () malak (king) Dawad (David) chayah (live) iwalam (forever)!”

Malak (king) Dawad (David) amar (said), “qaraa (called) to me Tzadawaq (Zadok) the kahan (priest), Nathan (give) the nabayaa (prophet/prophecy), and Banayah (Benaiah) the ban (son) of Yahawayadai (Jehoiada).” They bawaa (bring) panayam (face) the malak (king).

The malak (king) amar (spoke) to them, “laqach (take / seize) with you the ibaday (servants) of your Adawan (), and cause Shalamah (Solomon) my ban (son) to rakab (ride) on my own paradah (mule), and yarad (bring) him down to Gayachawan (Gihon).

Let Tzadawaq (Zadok) the kahan (priest) and Nathan (give) the nabayaa (prophet/prophecy) mashach (anoint) him there malak (king) over Yashar-Al (Israel). Thaqai (blow / sound alarm) the shawapar (Shofar / Ram's horn), and amar (said), ‘Long chayah (live) malak (king) Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch)!’

Then you shall ilah (go up / offer) up achar (other) him, and he shall bawaa (bring) and yashab (inhabit/dwell) on my kasaa (throne); for he shall be malak (king) in my place. I have tzawah (appointed) him to be nagayad (prince) over Yashar-Al (Israel) and over Yahawadah (Yahawadah / Judah).”

Banayah (Benaiah) the ban (son) of Yahawayadai (Jehoiada) inah (answer / respond) the malak (king), and inah (answer / respond), “aman (believe / have faith). May Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of my Adawan () the malak (king), amar (spoke) so.

As Yahawah () has been with my Adawan () the malak (king), even so may he be with Shalamah (Solomon), and gadal (make) his kasaa (throne) greater than the kasaa (throne) of my Adawan () malak (king) Dawad (David).”

So Tzadawaq (Zadok) the kahan (priest), and Nathan (give) the nabayaa (prophet/prophecy), and Banayah (Benaiah) the ban (son) of Yahawayadai (Jehoiada), and the Karathay (Cherethites) and the Palathay (Pelethites), yarad (went) down, and caused Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch) to rakab (ride) on malak (king) Dawad (David's) paradah (mule), and yalak (brought) him to Gayachawan (Gihon).

Tzadawaq (Zadok) the kahan (priest) laqach (take / seize) the qaran (horn) of shaman (oil) out of the ahal (tent), and mashach (anointed) Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch). They thaqai (blow / sound alarm) the shawapar (Shofar / Ram's horn); and all the im (nation / people) amar (said), “Long chayah (live) malak (king) Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch)!”

All the im (nation / people) ilah (go up / offer) up achar (other) him, and the im (nation / people) chalal (piped) with chalalayam (pipes), and shamach (rejoiced) with gadawal (very great/important/mighty) shamachah (joy), so that the aratz (Earth/land) shook with their qawal (sound / voice).

Adanayah (Adanayah / Adonijah) and all the qaraayam (guests) who were with him shamai (hearken / hear) it as they kalah (complete / finish) made an end of akal (eat). When Yawaab (Yawaab / Joab) shamai (hearken / hear) the qawal (sound / voice) of the shawapar (Shofar / Ram's horn), he amar (said), “Why is this qawal (sound / voice) of the qarayah (city / town) being in an hamah (great uproar)?”

While he yet dabar (word / matter), behold, Yawanathan (Jonathan) the ban (son) of Abayathar (Abiathar) the kahan (priest) bawaa (bring): and Adanayah (Adanayah / Adonijah) amar (said), “bawaa (bring) in; for you are a worthy ayash (man / husband), and bashar (bring) tawab (good / proper function) news.”

Yawanathan (Jonathan) inah (answer / respond) Adanayah (Adonijah), “Most certainly our Adawan () malak (king) Dawad (David) has made Shalamah (Solomon) malak (king).

The malak (king) has shalach (send) with him Tzadawaq (Zadok) the kahan (priest), Nathan (give) the nabayaa (prophet/prophecy), Banayah (Benaiah) the ban (son) of Yahawayadai (Jehoiada), and the Karathay (Cherethites) and the Palathay (Pelethites); and they have rakab (caused) him to ride on the malak (king) paradah (mule).

Tzadawaq (Zadok) the kahan (priest) and Nathan (give) the nabayaa (prophet/prophecy) have mashach (anointed) him malak (king) in Gayachawan (Gihon). They have ilah (go up / offer) up from there shamach (rejoicing), so that the qarayah (city / town) hawam (rang) again. This is the qawal (sound / voice) that you have shamai (hearken / hear).

Also, Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch) yashab (inhabit/dwell) on the kasaa (throne) of the malawakah (kingdom).

Moreover the malak (king) ibaday (servants) bawaa (come) to barak (blessed) our Adawan () malak (king) Dawad (David), amar (spoke), ‘May your Alahayam () make the sham (name) of Shalamah (Solomon) yatab (better) than your sham (name), and gadal (make) his kasaa (throne) greater than your kasaa (throne);’ and the malak (king) shachah (bowed) himself on the mashakab (bed).

Also thus amar (spoke) the malak (king), ‘barak (blessed) be Yahawah (), the Alahayam () of Yashar-Al (Israel), who nathan (give) given one to yashab (inhabit/dwell) on my kasaa (throne) this yawam (day), my iyan (eye) even seeing it.’”

All the qaraayam (guests) of Adanayah (Adanayah / Adonijah) were charad (afraid), and qawam (rise up) up, and each ayash (man / husband) yalak (went) his darak (way).

Adanayah (Adanayah / Adonijah) yaraa (fear / be afraid) panayam (face) of Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch); and he qawam (rise up), and yalak (went), and chazaq (caught) hold on the qaranawath (horns) of the mazabach (altar).

It was nagad (told) Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch), amar (said), “Behold, Adanayah (Adanayah / Adonijah) yaraa (fear / be afraid) malak (king) Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch); for, behold, he achaz (has) laid hold on the qaranawath (horns) of the mazabach (altar), amar (said), ‘Let malak (king) Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch) shabai (swear / take oath) to me yawam (day) that he will not mawath (death) his ibad (servant) with the charab (sword).’”

Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch) amar (said), “If he shows himself a chayal (wealth / substance / capability / valor) ban (son), not a shairah (hair) of him shall napal (fall / be cast down) to the aratz (Earth/land); but if rai (wickedness) be matzaa (found) in him, he shall mawath (death).”

So malak (king) Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch) shalach (send), and they yarad (brought) him down from the mazabach (altar). He bawaa (bring) and shachah (bowed) down to malak (king) Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch); and Shalamah (Solomon - Patriarch) amar (said) to him, “yalak (go) to your bayath (house).”
